There are many interpretations of this Scottish folksong. Esther Ofarim's beautiful rendition of "Black Is the Colour of My True Love's Head" is among the best. This one has stuck with me ever since I first heard it in 1970/71. It was part of an early 1970s German TV "Krimi" called "11 Uhr 20", now available on DVD, but has never been issued separately on CD. Thanks for downloading this song and so making it available for a much wider audience. The film isn't bad either.

Thanks God we can enjoy listening to Esther's immaculaue enchanting angelic voice and to her beautiful interpretation of this song. I was a child when she first sang this yet I wish we could have more songs like this one nowadays.

Joan Baez's is,of course ,the traditional version of the song .I've owned the record since it was released in the 60's. And always loved the song. Esther's version is a totally different arrangement completely styled to the scene in the film,and is also quite wonderful The traditional version would be quite out place in that sophisticated nightclub setting Esther is fully capable of singing either style.Such is her versatility.Can't quite imagine Joan taking on this version though l.o.l.
