Yes, this is another example of a rambling narration that needs serious editing due to the repetitious content. The same information is stated at least THREE TIMES. I am sure that people get it the first time. But the answer is that Esther Rolle had issues with the bafoonery of Jimmy Walker. She was a far more consummate actor(ess) than him, and I am sure that the professionalism was stretched to the limit for her.

I assume they meant Jimmy Walker.He said in an interview both John and Esther detested him and he was not friends with anyone on the set.They both hated the way his character was displayed.
Check out the Late Helen Martin who portrayed Marla Gibbs neighbor in 227. This sister's cultural bent is unapologetically authentic. Thank God there were some acting Sisters out there who truly did "represent." They don't pay lipservice. When Rolle walked away from Good Times, she made a statement and stood for an ethnic principle that is systematically understood, under-valued and summarily dismissed. SMH.

I’m in my 70s she was one of the first black females to appear on main stream television, and in movies never heard that before about her being a homosexual woman stop listening to white folk gossip
