I did some research on different CAMs and Estlcam was my choice. Did also a translation in to Finnish (will be available on next upgrade of Estlcam. Before that can be downloaded on my web page at the Open Design section....). Good video and presentation, Thank you.

While the video is a good introduction to Estlcam 2D CAM (it also does 2.5 and 3D), I didn't hear any mention of the Estlcam motion controller and interface programs. Estlcam control can be installed on many Arduino/GRBL boards to make Estlcam a seamless all in one CAM and control package. The controller interface has a lot of useful features including an optional one click Z0 probe/reset after manual tool changes, i.e. Estlcam control has multiple easy to use tool change options, something that most GRBL interfaces lack.

I’ll probably be buying it now watching this video not only that I just need a g code generator but that it is the cheapest best software I have seen, all others I have seen are many many times more to buy

The other nice thing is you can test drive it and see if you like it, with no limitations.

I have been playing with Estlcam for the last few weeks as well. I find it intuitive and very functional. Toolbit management and selection is incredibly efficient. I find it does have a few quirks, for example if your preference is to always use Parallel for the pocketing strategy, so far I haven't found a way to set that as the default, requiring me to double check every toolpath. As you mentioned, it's also very easy to create 2 toolpaths on top of each other and not realize it. I'm really on the fence about buying it. Honestly it does everything I need right now, and it's a great price point. It does appear that V11 was released in 2017, and I haven't been able to figure out if it's still in active development. If I knew for sure that he is still working on it, I will gladly pay to support him.

Yes setting your prefrence for your pocket strategy would be nice. 2017ish was the last I saw as well. Overall I am happy with it and still bought it to support the developer of it. I am still reviewing other CAM and seeing how they go.

Thanks for the detailed introduction to this contender. I prefer free software but I don't mind the $60 price for something of quality. I don't like that he charges for version upgrades. I have software that I paid for years ago which gets upgraded on occasion for no additional fee. I count that as one mark against Estlcam
@D.E.Hammer
@D.E.Hammer Год назад
I get it, I was just happy for no monthly sub fee or ridiculously high entry fee. After looking not sure there is a open source/ free cam out there. Yes there are some web based ones, but web and free never = free, somethings being sold or functionality is being limited.
@JohnHoranzy
@JohnHoranzy 3 месяца назад
I am sure your employer would like you to work for free also. $60 is a very reasonable price and you are not required to buy the upgrades. There is also FreeCAD with a CAM module which is free if you do not value your time.

I am completely new to the cnc world and I use Estlcam as a controller and I do cad in Fusion 360. Compared to other programs, ugs, g sender and similar, what would you say? Is it simpler, better, more complicated...? What are your impressions? And finally, what programs would you recommend? Great video by the way 👍
@D.E.Hammer
@D.E.Hammer Год назад
So for a little context I was using Carbide Create for CAM and touch up with my CAD files that I make in illustrator. For control software I have only used GSender, CNCJS, and when I was using my 3018, the offline controller. I have not used EstlCAM or UGS for control, so I can not speak to those. I have talked to several people who really lile UGS, and use nothing else. I liked CNCJS when I used it, BUT on larger and longer cuts I had to seperate my gcode into multiple files so it would not crash. As for GSender it is a fork of CNCJS and I find using a version behind the latest release always seems more stable. I am using 1.06 I think right now on my raspberrypi set up. I also do not have my homing inductors installed and I do not use a touch plate, which I see some people have issues with on new releases of GSender. My preferred work flow at the moment is Illustrator for CAD (if you dont want to pay for illustrator, inkscape is a great alternative), EstlCAM for CAM, and GSender for control. I am currently trying out other CAM/CAD software, to see what's out there and what works best for my work flow. I will be trying out pixelcnc next, have only put in an hour or so, so far and not to impressed yet, but will see how it goes. I am saving vcarve and 360 for the last reviews as those are the most popular.

Only problem is its only for windows, but I did get it ti run with crossover on Linux so it can run that way on a mach also. Since this isn't the first one I tried, I think this is the best. Thanks for the video. subscribed and will see what else you got Do you know why it makes 2 passes on some cuts even though the depth of my endmill is more than my cut depth, I had both the numbers the same and it still did 2 passes on some cuts. strange Get some good earth magnets, They'll keep that shut

I'm sure Estlcam doesn't mind you saying etsl even if it does mean you are swapping the t and the s. E. T. S. L. not E. S. T. L.

I understand, will be working my way over to VCarve after I run thru some other options. Just trying out some of the lesser known software and see how they preform.

Vcarve pro 800€ - Estlcam 50€. I bought Estlcam. The only thing missing is the visual preview. Not worth 750€ extra.

You can use either the Estlcam arduino or GRBL compatible pinouts, your choice.
