Maybe you should consider accepting invitations from the Southern Hemisphere during your winter! Temperature is around 32 degrees C here in southern Australia at present! 10/10 for perseverance in adverse conditions ! Put it all down to experience! For you and your growing list of followers as well. ("Have thermals, will travel.")

Oh how lovely to find this video.... combining Estonia and Organs! My first trip to Estonia, back in 1997, that year I did hear the organ of Tallinn Dom Kirik. While there, we purchased a CD of three Baltic Organs... Tallinn / Riga / Vilnius (ERES CD 07). This video was first I have been virtually walked up to the console, so thank you. The Riga organ, was the famous one in the Riga Dom. Franz Liszt composed the music for the dedication of that organ.... and that organ I got to play back in June of 2000! Hymn "As the Deer" never sounded better! (That organ has Barker levers as it is a Tracker. The person giving us the organ tour latched in one of the alphabetically labeled pedals as they got up from the console. I wisely checked the listing.... found they had latched in the Tutti! I released that before trying the organ!) Oh, and one track on that CD to highly praise.... Via Dolorosa by Aivars Kalejs. From the first time I heard that track, I have associated it with title "Prelude to the entrance of God". Starts out with a single rank, builds to full organ, and end up back with a single rank. And by the way.... the tall Church behind you at 12:12 in your video is Oleviste kirik (St. Olaf's Church), which was - when it was originally built - the tallest building in the entire world.

Oh my god!! How cold you would be guys! Maybe a hot drink would have been good for you on that freezing night. I have to say that you have pleasantly surprised me, by commenting in the vlog that Jonathan has made the transcription for organ of "Dream of Love" by Liszt. That's fantastic, congratulations! It's a really difficult piece for piano and I particularly love it! Congratulations on the trip, also because you have been able to see that in Tallinn it is even colder than in Manchester!😂😘😘🤗❤️

Liszt´s Liebestraum No. 3 is commonplace repertoire for virtuoso organists these days and Manchester barely suffers sub-zero temperatures as it enjoys a typical sea-climate, not so cold albeit slightly more humid than Tallinn I suppose

Fascinating views of Tallinn, & the Cathedral in snowy splendour but I particularly enjoyed listening to the musical accompaniment. That programme sounds wonderful. The organ sounded amazing & I'm sure the audience thought it was well worth the effort of getting there in the cold weather to hear such incredible music. Thank you both for another interesting vlog. xx

Another peek behind the scenes of SBD"s snow business with Jonathan doing swing time! Kudos for the impressive knowledge & talent organists need to setup an instrument. 👏👏 Good job, Tom! ⏱ Looking forward to the video. What I learned: the greatest invention for the organ was the cancel button 🚫 and why Brits are so keen on hedgehogs - to satisfy an itch. 🦔 😁 🔔 Bells!! 🥰 ❤❤🎹🎶

The vlogs are truly amazing and so informative. Maybe there can be a big contest between the 2 of you at more sites to get the stops in place quicker and quicker. It is so nice to see brothers who truly care about one another and don't exhibit any jealousy. Then again, I do recall a time, Tom asked Jonathan to do a version of Pas de Deux and he did. As Jonathan said, Tom immediately regretted it. Bear in mind, this was shortly after Tom's piece, March of the Nutcrackers, where Jonathan was tasked with playing the nutcracker between his legs! It was a great Christmas video, as usual, and one of the ones that I watched MULTIPLE times again this Christmas. Thanks for sharing the sights and sounds of the concerts and the towns/halls where they are performed. I check notifications daily to see when there is a new release!

Great video, once again shows the genius of these two in adapting to the different organs they encounter; those stop changes looked very fiddly. Hopefully one day Jonathan will play the great Ladegast organ in Merseburg cathedral in Germany which is the greatest surviving 19th century German romantic organ

Thanks so much for this wonderful tour of old Talinn and a look at the magnificent organ Jonathan played there! I have a friend (in the US) who is from Estonia, and I'll be sending him a link to this v-log. I think he'll love it and maybe it will bring back great memories for him! It was great to see the snow, too! Here in the Long Island, NY suburbs, we have not seen any snow for two years! Most of all, I was impressed with the organ itself. [An organ with a dynamometer!] All those stops and pins! How does Jonathan get familiar with all these organs so quickly? They're all so different! This one has a gorgeous sound to it, so I am eagerly waiting for the concert you recorded! Thanks again for taking us on this interesting journey with you! ❤🎹 ❄ ✈ 🦄 😊

I could not agree more, it is simply amazing how Jon familiarizes himself so quickly with new instruments but after all: he is a master of the medium and there is hardly any better practice than messing around with all those historical organs in Britain ...

Right on time, as promised. Thank you. I'm with Tom on this one ( ??? ) I find it amazing how different organs can be. Was this your first trip to Estonia, I know it was mine. Wishing you continued success and happiness in '24. xx P.S. When the snow crunches while you are walking on it, that means that it is really cold. I'm from NW Michigan, and it happens all the time up here, like now for instance. I can certainly see why you needed those cold weather jackets! Toasty.

Are you kidding? Most of us regard the ads with extreme hostility! Try watching a video where they insert an ad (or two, or three) between every pair of noels, nocturnes, etc., and you will resent them very quickly!

What do those rotating things between the stop-rockers actually do?
@epincion
@epincion 5 месяцев назад
There are three rows of those rotation switches so it’s probable that the organ has an old pre-electronic circuit board era electric preset mechanism that allows for up to three preset registrations by turning the rotating switches corresponding to their corresponding rocker stops. Jonathan then triggers these presets via either a thumb press or toe press. Modern electronic presetters allow for hundreds of registrations changes. If/when that organ undergoes a rebuild I’m sure a part will be installing an electronic system - the organ pipework itself will be left as original as possible.
