First introduced in 1965, the EMD 645 series is still in production on a by-request basis. It is one of the most popular locomotive prime movers ever produced.
This version is an EMD 645E3 16cyl. It has been the most popular 645 produced. This is used in many prototypes including:
GP40, GP40-2, GP40P, GP40P-2, GP40TC, SD40, SD40A, SD40-2, SD40T-2, SDP40, SDP40F, F40PH, Australian National BL Class, GT26CW, DSB Class MZ, DDA40X (dual engine), RENFE Class 333, F40C, V/Line G class (original), DSB Class ME, and British Rail Class 59.
We have incorporated many New Features in this Sound File including:
-2 Stage Shaft Driven Air Compressor that runs faster when the Prime Mover runs faster.
-Hand Brake Ratchet.
-Brake Wheel Type Hand Brakes.
-Both Regular Prime Mover and "Smart Start" Prime Mover.
-Brand New Horns.
-3 Bells, including New Air Bell, New CNW Style Gong Bell, and our Popular E-Bell.
-Proper working Dynamic Brakes. PM Spools down to Idle and then rises as Dynamic Brake Fan Runs. AND The Engine Brakes faster due to Dynamic Brake motor Logic.
-Throttle Sensitive Prime Mover Sound Paths.
-Brand New Spitter Sounds. Slow and Fast!
-Spitter Sounds upon shutdown for 1 minute then automatically turn off.
As with all Select decoders there are also 16 separate horns, 2 separate brake squeals, and 2 bells include on this one sound profile!
All changeable using CV48
Prime mover #1 (CV48=0) features a "EMD 16-645E with Turbo"

The V/Line (now pacific national) G classes were given newer emd 16-645f3b engines in the later 90s. The original 16-645e3b were given to some of the first and second series X classes. This was part of the upgrade which saw these X's become known as the XR class.

Awesome! The prime mover, horn, and new features sound great! Is there going to be an update version on the EMD 16Cyl 645F and EMD 20Cyl 645E?

Hi, a last word about Motor control at slow speed. Do not misunderstand me, in fact the ESU Decoder has a VERY GOOD slow speed control. But there are two small manufacterers in Austria, which show that a smoother Start of the engine is possible. I think the next ESU-generation will top this:-)

Do you have a video that shows all of the horns in a side by side comparison? I'm kind of curious to see how they all sound and next to one another.

Thanks for clear that!!! At some European models from ESU (class77...) the Motor Sound needs, if you decelerate fast, from full speed (notch 8) to idle as long as from half speed/notch 4 to idle. The longest time it needs, is from notch 1 to idle, when you turn the throtle vom 1 to 0. I think ESU Europe could learn something from you:-)

wowser,,,,, you have the 3067 ,,,aka,,,"the red baron". I saw the old baron in Cincinnati in august 1976 right after CR.(actually the engine terminal,,sharonville) she looked as she does here in every way.

You need an additional speaker or the use of an external source to get the tintiness out of the sound otherwise these are far great sounding locos. I have not heard these sound so real on the models.

I really hate that it just goes from idle to notch 2 though. Wheres notch 1?
@mattherman3430
@mattherman3430 3 года назад
This is a video from 2014 with the original "pre Full Throttle" files. All Selects and V4s with Full Throttle have Notch 1. Which often sounds like Idle. Notch one basically just engages the traction motor. So unless there is a load there is not much difference heard. Notch 2 is the first the prime mover will "ramp up". All LokSound 5 files have notch 1 sounds. MOst under load.

Hi ESU, Nice project! Dowloaded now! But the list of horns does not match the description of the video.
@ESUDCC
@ESUDCC 10 лет назад
Marcelo, the V4.0 project does have different horns in it due to the way the horns need to be made for "Multiple Horns" in production V4.0 files. The Next Template Pack, due very shortly, will have all the new North American horns available. Once released you will be able to add these new horns to this and all other V4.0 files. Sorry for the confusion.

ESUDCC This Template Pack is being highly awaited. A note, as the sound is also advertised to BR Class 59, would be interesting to have in the Template Pack, a low tone and a high tone horns to form the traditional European two-tone horns.

It is not correct, that speed and sound are exactly at the same second at zero (idle). For example: If you stop fast from speedstep 20 the Motor needs time to go to idle . The higher the Motor(sound) RPM the longer the time to come down. This feature is for Maerklin (this guys like to drive with zero decaleration, so the Motor had to come down very fast to Idle). This is one reason why i do not use ESU for proffessional projects (the other are the limitations in slow speed performance). But the new prime mover sounds are fine.
@ESUDCC
@ESUDCC 10 лет назад
Willibald, the sound you hear starting at about 3:08 of this video is the fastest the sound will come down. Actually, maybe for the first time in sound decoder history this IS correct! We've used the sound of the actual locomotive coming down straight from notch 8 to idle. It will not go any faster. What we are referring to in the video is that we have multiple paths that the sound can travel not just one up and one down. By having multiple paths we can bypass the "loops" in each notch allowing us to be accurate to the prototype. Of course if you have no momentum built in to your speed table the engine will be stopped before sound comes down. But I assure you this is not made for Europe. This is built specifically for the North American market by an American! I challenge you to find a competitor that is more accurate on this sound file. If you load this into a decoder and try the default settings you will be pleasantly surprised!! As for the Slow Speed "limitations" You will have to be more precise. We are a world leader in this area. With our 5th Generation of motor control. Infact we are KNOWN for our motor control. I can think of no limitations... I don't mean to argue, but if you haven't tried an ESU decoder lately now is a perfect time to experience it again!
@marcelodt
@marcelodt 10 лет назад
The features auto calibration of ESU decoders are unique and greatly facilitate our lives. They ensure smooth operation at any speed. Then I built an external line of greater length in my railroad, the task became easier. Still, if you need a manual adjustment is not as laborious as other decoders. I am technical and while my rolling stock is still small. I have 10 locomotives with sound and 9 of them are ESU.
