@@MouseCheese2010 at want point does the ESV Study people become to big lol? I’m imagining Cambridge making one of those massive church Bibles that are sometimes on display expect it’s the ESV Study Bible
I’ve been waiting for this one…only to realize I am going the path of Paul….need large print. I hope that you and friends can help other such as I and they publish a large print version soon. Great job reviewing Tim!
1:48 This is adorable talking about not wanting to hurt it - I've got a 15-year-old Bible that is starting to fall apart And I met a new Christian who doesn't even open hers all the way because she doesn't want to crease the pages. ❤❤ honey, it's going to get a lot of use!
I just got the ESV study bible a few days ago, and I have to say I'm two or three days in, and still haven't gotten past Genesis chapter 4. There is so much to learn, I love it!!!! Now I wish I had gotten that version. No regrets though, I'm having so much revelation about things I had never considered, but at this rate it's going to take ten years to read the bible, lol~
First, congratulations to you on your new book contract, Tim! Second, I just got my ESV Journaling Study Bible today from Amazon. I ordered halfway through watching your unboxing/review of it! 😂
I was so excited for this Bible , I received mine yesterday and I love it except from the paper 😭 is too weak 😭😭😭😭 other than that it’s perfect, amazing notes and resources wao amazing 💛
Yes, I got mine too and was so disappointed with the paper. It does bleed. I’ve used all the pens I usually use and it bleeds. I think pencil would be the only thing that doesn’t bleed
Looks like a great bible....but... The issue I'm having is that there are small print bibles and large print, but not much in medium print, like 9 pt. My eyes need the medium print. So I have to stick with the ESV wide margin 9pt, unless Crossway starts offering other double column medium print options.
I was just telling my wife the other day how I wish there was a journaling study Bible! Well Crossway… you’ve put done yourself, and now you shall take my money! Haha!
I wanted to like this so bad. When you start to use it on the daily the paper wrinkles so bad. I have had two of the journaling Bibles and was so excited to get this. I was with you combining them is perfect and ideal. It just fell flat for me. Can’t wait to hear what you think the more you use it.
I am guessing it's not the thick, cream-colored paper that's in the journaling Bible? I have the Harper Collins XL Nrsv-the Bible is square and those wide pages of thin Bible paper love to get folded all kinda weird ways.
I compared side by side this bible with my ESV Student Study Bible. It is exactly the same down to the page numbers. I like the more concise notes, but it may be something you want to be aware of. I’ll be passing my ESV Student Study bible onto someone else now that I know the content is the same.
I need a study bible with LARGE print. I ordered a dev study bible but the words are to small. I want to return it and get one with large words. Do you have one?
Hi Tim thank you for the review of the ESV Journaling Study Bible. I was ready to order one until……. Major disappointment‼️when you said it was NOT a RED LETTER edition. Heck for me it is always critical to wake up a bit more when you turn the page of the Bible and you see Red Lettering where our Lord is quoted. All my Bibles have this and for me it is a “Must Have” feature of a Bible for me. I was really pumped up for this Bible. Can you tell me if the ESV Study Bible is a Red Letter edition??? My current study book has come apart into like 11 sections so I need to get it rebounded. Do you know of a great store/business that will rebound my Bible? It was my Dad’s Bible and I was the one who led him to Jesus. So when he passed that was the number one item that I desired. He read it every day for 20+ years and I have read it every day for 10+ years. Any assistance I would greatly appreciate. Thanks Tim.
It looks like the same ones they used in the Student Study Bible, but I can’t tell on my iPad mini. 😂 I’ll have to take a look when I can steal our daughter’s. While I’m at it, I think the pagination matches between the two. ✌️🤓
@azncamgurl there are fewer study notes and articles. It's rare that I feel the need for more study notes. The journaling still has a lot, but if I do, the ESV Study Bible has a lot of articles. I would still pick the journaling study bible as my daily. Unless I am doing a real deep dive, it has everything I need in the notes. Plus, it has large margins for my own journaling, of course. Hope my rambling helped.
I begin at a seminary next month. Their standard use is the ESV. Interested in this journaling Bible. Would it be a good one to pick up? ESV is a version I don’t have yet.
Tim - you did not say enough about the paper? It does look really thin like 28 gsm, we know that the camera over enhances to make it look worse than it does in person. I will be really interested to know how it takes Micron pens and highlight before I can jump in. I will also add, I did not see this 2 tone tru tone on the Amazon link only the hardcover and the "strap and flap" but I can report that Crossway is running a Fathers day promo and you can get the 2 tone ( if you register for their free Crossway +) for 40% off or $38.99 with Free Shipping if any of you are were on the fence based on the retail price. Also someone commented that they ordered it right after watching the video and commented it was not the same notes as the ESV Study Bible, but Tim said it was the same as the "ESV Student Study Bible" with some enhancements, like the character boxes etc which is a bit condensed version of the Standard Study Bible
@@roannemandap9150 thanks for that response. I was afraid of that. Too bad. I wish Tim would hit those details, viewers should know what paper/pens a “ journaling” notebook will take. So much time spent on leather soft, inside pages and maps, not enough dets. Surrounding context usage of bible. . I mean pencil is fine and they make colored pencils so you notes don’t have to be all chromium, but covering that detail, helps us.
The 12,000 notes, 80 maps, and 900 did you know facts match the count on the student study bible. I have the student study bible now. It is very good. However, 7.5 font is a deal breaker.
I have a Catholic NRSV journaling Bible from Harper Collins and Catholic Bible Press. It is a pastel blue cloth over board and I love it. I wish it was a study Bible this is really cool.
hey Tim - thank you for your ministry in helping us choose the right Bible for ourselves. You are a great teacher. I am wondering if you can help me narrow down my search (I have already decided that this ESV study & journalling Bible is the one for me) BUT, I am not sure which is actually easier to write in, the two-tone trutone or the hardcover? Can you please do a video with both side-by side as I only want one of the two. TIA.
Which one would you recommend to someone who’s read the bible, but now looking to deeply study it? Will the lack of margins in the ESV study be an issue?
I mistakenly bought the hardcover instead of the leather. However, it has turned out incredibly good for a hardcover. I'll definitely get the leather edition next, or get it rebound.
I just got this Bible for my birthday from a friend. I've been reading from an NLT and wanted a different translation to read from and parallel reading when I don't quite understand something from one translation and read the other.
Are the notes from the Student study bible or the study bible itself. You said “student” and I wonder why they included notes from a young/teen study bible rather than the adult version so to speak? Is this Bible aimed at students?
The ESV Student Study Bible is an abridged version of the full ESV Study Bible with a few unique features. They use its content for editions like this that can’t have the full set of notes.
I called Crossway, the publishers of the ESV, concerning the ESV Journaling Study Bible. I assumed, probably like many others, that the Journaling Study Bible was the Study Bible with wider margins. It is NOT. It is the ESV Student Study Bible, which is a pared down version of the ESV Study Bible, which in itself is a fine, though slightly pared down version of the ESVSB.
Eh... Crossway, if you're listening, you need to thank the 2010s design team for a great decade and then fire them. The same covers, colors, font, overall styles have lasted far too long. HarperCollins has been far more creative lately with much older, less popular translations. I know it's a terrible reason, but I'm actually considering using a NKJV again just because I'm so tired of ugly Crossway covers and plain Lexicon font. Even Lockman picked up new looks. Enough lazy remixing the same stuff and do something that's actually new, Crossway.
Haha I'm being too harsh. But Crossway was the one raising the bar a decade ago, and got us all to love the ESV, which I still do. They just need to freshen things up, sans two-tone mahogany, teal, and girly florals.
Is the paper in this one the same as the natural leather with the strap? I was wondering if the price difference is only because of the leather, or if the one with the strap has better paper
@timwildsmith hi. I am new to your chanel and in the mkt for a Bible. Does this exist: ESV Study, journaling, large print, red letter, interleaved OR single column with wide margins, thick paper, leather cover? Please advise.
I don't think they make my perfect Bible. In a 14 to 16 point type you mostly get no room for ANY notes, fake leather ,32 gsm paper that bleeds through, cheap ribbons and non line matched. 😞 You'd think with over 20 million people with eye problems they could do better.
John 11:25-27 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me, even if he dies, will live. Everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” “Yes, Lord,” she told him, “I believe you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who comes into the world.” Daily Bible reading is a blessing, even if you have a Gideon Bible, or even a paperback Bible. Why buy so many Bibles? But , I should not judge anyone on their Bible purchases. But there DOES come a time when we have to obey the Bible and support family, missions, the poor, etc.
The ESV Bible is considered one of if not the most accurate to date Bible when talking in terms of word for word translation. ”So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him. There was no sword in the hand of David. Then David ran and stood over the Philistine and took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him and cut off his head with it. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.“ 1 Samuel 17:50-51 ESV
