historical background: "Hymn. The Eternal Revolutionary" is a poem by the Ukrainian writer Ivan Franko from 1880. It was first published on June 3, 1882 in the Lviv newspaper "Praca" under the title "Hymn. Wicznyj revolucjoner" (in Latin), signed by Myron.
As a song, it actively entered the sphere of political struggle only in 1905, and was still known as a poem that was often recited, but not sung.
In 1905, Mykola Lysenko wrote the music for the "Hymn", and it began its new life, went into the world as a revolutionary song.
When in 1898 the 25th anniversary of I. Franko's literary and social activity was celebrated, the public of Halychyna prepared a surprise for Kamenyarev: the choir sang "The Eternal Revolutionary" for the first time. Soon, the anthem song to the music of M. Lysenko returned to the city of his birth, Lviv, and flew all over Galicia. Already in 1909, it was sung by the Lviv choir "Bandurist".
People's Artist V. Kasiyan recalled that in 1913, students of a real school in Snyatin "sang songs" based on the words of Ivan Franko, in particular his anthem "Eternal Revolutionary". During the Ukrainian Revolution, the "Hymn" was reprinted in many collections of revolutionary songs.
The song was considered the unofficial anthem of the WUPR, in particular, this song was played during the solemn signing of the Zluka Act on January 22, 1919.
