Thanks. Gretchen Franklin was such a great actress. It's good to see a bit of honesty about an older person caring for a young dog rather than a fake "happy" type scene that you usually get in these circumstances.
The cast probably had a job keeping a straight face too! I think the writers shoehorned in innuendos intentionally. I remember one storyline where he went missing, and Ethel came out with I’d rather lose an arm or leg than lose my Willy! Like Mrs. Slocombe with her pussy lol.
Loved Eastenders in those days, also thought Ethel was a brilliant character...miss a lot of the old school people in the 90s EE!! Also miss Phil in the 90s, such a great and likeable character back then! Think things changed around the millennium, he got quite lairy!
They were never released on dvd. You would think BBC Iplayer would add more old classic episodes but they are rubbish with old shows, they are all kept in the archive away from public viewing.
