Wow, I just finished a semester doing a Telecommunications paper @ Uni and about 3 lectures were totally focused on this the origins of Ethernet. Pretty cool to see history as it was made.
Oh man, listen to the print-through! Some engineer back in the '70s failed to store this videotape tails-out. (@18:46 there's a great example. You can hear his voice playing faintly before you hear it loudly. That's not someone talking in the background, but "pre-echo", caused by magnetization of each layer of tape on the reel by the next-outermost layer. Easily prevented by leaving the video or audio tape on the takeup reel after playback, and storing it that way.) Nonetheless, it's wonderful that we have this, print-through and all.

None of this excitement over computers has made life any better. Productivity is down and fantastic debt is way up. More insanity and homelessness is now the rule, with much more to come. As a time traveler, I'd tell Bob not to worry too much about "improving the world," cuz he's the reason things are so F'd up.
