I apologize to those that were looking forward to the ethnic series that I started a few months back. My mind was not in the right place, so I could not finish the series. It didnt feel right at the time. But now, it is the perfect time to share how I paint an ethnic doll. I will post a few videos showing you beginning to end! Hope this helps and inspires some of you with your own painting and techniques! Hugs and love to you all.

I'm a new reborn artist and I've watched just about all of your videos and I think you are one of the reborn artist I've seen. I would just love to have one of your babies. What do you use to make that white mixture before you start painting your babies? That makes a lot of sense to me as well.

I know this video is a couple of years old however I do love your work. I have a few questions that might seem silly to ask but I will ask them anyways.Can you use a regular oven and what temperature is best? When you are baking your reborn dolls do you sit them on a towel? Finally, the last question, what paint set is best to use. Genius Heat Set paints is often mention in a lot of videos on RU-vid.

Rhonda Ivey do not bake in your home oven! The fumes from the vinyl are not good for you. Not to mention you could have a bad taste in your food when u cook. Also, temperatures very in regular ovens and front vs back isn’t the same even temperature. Get a nuwave :) I got mine at kohl’s a few weeks ago, with the discount I got it bought it for $58. However I don’t have the extended ring. I just lay the head on the side. I found baking at 8-10 min. At 250 works for me. Good luck

Chemicals from the vinyl can adhere to the kitchen oven, and re-evaporate once cooking food in it at a later time. Contaminating the food. It is safer to use a tabletop oven like the Nuwave. That’s why artists choose to do that 🙂

I have an example of neutralizing: if I bought a reborn kit and it was a very orange color, id look at my color wheel (you can get one from bountiful baby) and the color that's opposite from the color my kit is, is what I paint on

I do my ethnic dolls with regular craft acrylic paint, mixed with fixatives and sealers. You would do it the same way as she does in the tutorial. For info on how to properly paint with acrylics, I recommend the channel CARLACARMICHAEL .

Question on the baking time. Why do you bake them at 275 instead of 265? I am a new reborn artist so I'm just wondering because I read that the paint cures at 265

I have a nuwave oven as well and if you set the oven to let's say 265 degrees, the oven thermometer reads that the internal temperature doesn't even reach 250. an oven thermometer is very important to have because they give you the true oven temp. my nuwave I actually have to set to 280 and then I get that 260-265 temp needed to cure the paint. I used a test limb to figure out the settings before baking my actual kit.

No problem! Yes I was going to trust mine as well but I'm so glad I went with my gut and bought one. It was less than $5 at the grocery store. First try setting the temp to 260 or 265 to see if yours reaches that because maybe everyone's nuwave oven doesn't operate the same. Then increase in increments of 5 degrees until it reaches your desired bake temp. Would hate for you to accidentally melt a kit.

+Mary O I just purchased one. Where do you put yours in the nuwave? It's metal I'm nervous it's going to touch the vinyl

I laid down a white towel that covered the entire metal pan including the sides. That way you can utilize the entire thing to lay out your vinyl pieces. I just set the thermometer towards the back of the oven so that I could read the reading clearly. And I am currently working on a newborn sized kit, so you should have plenty of room to lay out the pieces without any touching. I'm actually having to bake in two cycles. first her arms and her tummy plate, and then her head and her legs. I'm definitely not able to fit the entire kit in the oven at the same time.

Avakin ItzMelodyDuhh how does that make any sense? showing how to shade the face has nothing to do with copying the actual in depth technique of how they paint their babies faces.
