Thank you for not calling it a visa. So many reports in the media and social media incorrectly call it a visa which create confusion (it's a preauthorized security clearance) and visas will still exist for citizens of certain countries. Most Americans do not know EU citizens have had to apply for a similar authorization for the US called ESTA since 2008. Your information is very clear and I appreciate question mentioning the questions. For what's I've heard, it will be required mid 2025 (unless it's delayed again.)

Yes, it’s definitely not a visa and you heard correctly, it’s been pushed back until 2025.

One of the things I don't understand is the first country of entry. I have a trip booked in April for Italy. I catch my connecting flight in Germany. I am not sure what to put down as my first country of entry. Do I put Germany or do I put Italy?

You would enter Italy. It's not the first point of entry but the first country you intend to stay in.

Thank you. I didn't know about non of this. As I plan on going to Serbia. I hope is still visa free. Serbia isn't part of the EU. Or maybe it is? Plus, since my passport will expire on August 2024. I decide to go renew it early October. I don't want no hiccups on oversea trip

Serbia is not part of the EU. If you are from the US then you don't need a visa to visit Serbia as long as you don't stay longer than 90 days. Renewing your passport early is a good idea.
