Hello Heather, I am almost 50 years old and starting all over after a very severe disease. You have such a great and positive energy and although I am really scared of trying something new (an Etsy shop) I feel more and more confident after watching your videos. I guess everyone is struggling with different things, have different doubts about themselves and in my case it is my age and the fact that my English is not perfect but then I think "Why not just trying?" One or two years from now I know I will regret if I do not start now. Something I'm curious about, but I haven't heard anyone talk about is, how do you keep records? Do you have some sort of spreadsheet? Or program? If so, do you fill it in when you list? Or when you sell? I really enjoy your channel. -Pat
If you check out tax attorney youtubers they all recommend using quick books. They also recommend using an tax accountant but to still keep track of your expenses and sales and hand that to them. You can do that with accountant
Great video. I haven’t even started to produce any designs yet because I’ve thought about so many things like this that just make me stuck and think why bother. Even after everything you mentioned in this video of more things to think about is extremely overwhelming yet you have given me the motivation to just do it. Just start and keep moving forward. Heather, are you saying that after you closed down your previous shop that made you approximately $400,000 in revenue, you opened up your current shop about 1 to 1 1/2 years ago, and it has made you $400,000+ in that short amount of time? I am asking because I remember you saying that Etsy ads ate most of your profits in your new shop, and you hadn't made all that many sales at that point. I am just confused with your timeline and revenue numbers. If you are saying that you did make that revenue within this last year or so, I think those are pretty impressive numbers in such a short amount of time. I, for one, would love to know what your best strategies were for selling so much so quickly, with hopefully, a good profit. Did you continue to run ads and what percentage was from personalized versus nonpersonalized. And are you selling nonapparel products now in a niche or a general store? So many questions lol. Maybe a future video?

You are so spot on about the accounting! My first business when I opened it he didn't know how to deal with all the sreams of income and didn't let me know what I could write off as an owner. He also didn't infomr me of things like having to do an Annual Registry (we have to do that here in Canada) and it resulted in a huge fine for me ($500) and then a massive bookkeeping bill ($2,400) to fix all his mistakes! And no when an accountant makes a mistake they aren't the one to pay, it's you as the business owner - ugh! Now I have a great accountant and he's worth every penny!

I love what that puppy does to your energy. You have great energy to begin with, but puppy energy is in another league! I hope to one day be able to look back from a place I can't even imagine today and thank myself for having the guts to take those first trembling steps into the unknown, and keep persisting. Still a little stuck in analysis paralysis, undulating between excitement and fear. But for the first time I have been able to put down some goals for what I want to do in 2024 in POD. Fear and desperation has always stopped me in the past, but I feel like something is different this time around.

So I have been following you and watching all your videos for almost a year now, I started an etsy shop2 months ago because of all your amazing helpful videos, I have been working like crazy an have over 100 listings. Ive started to get depressed and discouraged because I have not had a sale yet so this video has defiantly given me a boost of confidence. I told my daughter sometime I sit and act like I am sitting on a bench talking to my innerchild letting her know how proud of her I am and I wil not lose sight of her ever again but will continue to nurture her. Thanks so much for this, very inspiring. Can you share how many listings you recommend posting (over what period of time) to teach the Etsy algorithm, validate a niche / design style, etc.? I'm working on my shop and am getting mixed signals about "40-50 listings should be enough, you need to market/advertise so people actually see your stuff..." and then others says it takes HUNDREDS of listings to start seeing sales or data that what you're doing is what people want. Question. I noticed that most people that DID buy things were in a Ceartin Niche. So I put all my other things that were not in that niche ( around a week ago) and I wonder if that was a good idea? I had over 100 listings, and now it's at 43. In the last 30 Days, I've made 37 sales and $316 Which is good for me, BUT this is Q4 and I don't think that counts because most of those sales were because of an Ornament lol. My niche is Native American and you don't really see Ornaments in that niche. That's why it's been popular. BTW.. The ornament doesn't have any Christmas words or even Christmas anything. They are just beautiful pictures that are basically Native themed. But, I love the puppy concept and she's so cute!
Heather, thank you so much - the discouragement is REAL. For me I've struggled with Spam, hard. My shop is almost 2 months old, 125 listings, 16 sales, 3% conversion rate. I'm satisfied with how things are going and I'm trying to still take it all in and learn as much as possible, quickly. However, I'm getting daily Spam emails from fiverr people looking to help me grow business. People who want to buy items and need my email, ghost favoriting my shops, just crazy things that are hard to track down. Is this normal? Today someone spam favorited my shop with my logo - at what point is this a problem or do I just ignore and keep moving?
Hey there, so sorry to hear you’re having such problems with spam! Usually most spam/scam accounts have stopped after your shop is a few months old(at least that’s my experience) so hang in there! I personally have messaged back a ‘no thank you’ and then reported the accounts to Etsy so it doesn’t affect my star seller status. I would keep reporting and not clicking links the best you can here and, again, with time it should lessen and stop for the most part. Hopefully this helps and it halts soon!❤️

I have some Etsy listing and use Printful. If I add new listing, can I use Printify for the new listings? Does Etsy allow a person to use different print providers?
Yes you can use multiple POD providers! The only downside is if a customer purchases a multiple order item you can have multiple shipping charges. I've done multiple print providers from the start though and make sure to have a extra few dollars of profit to compensate for the shipping if I notice it's happening often.
I never tell anyone what I am doing until I am past the point there is no way they could hinder me with negativity, I seen an commercial ad they have a link to report scams, Have you seen the new law coming out for LLC s Its a transparency Law and everyone has to do it. It will be a fine for 500 per day caping at 10,000

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact you struggled with 250k sales in your first year, I know every shop is different..and it can take several years to scale
Also, do your research. With Etsy laying off employees recently and it's stock price dropping, do you want to put all your eggs in Etsy's fragile basket? Look at the overall health of a platform before you jump off that e-commerce cliff. Know before you go.
