EU-backed scientists have been monitoring wolves in the border area.

Although it may seem surprising, experts agree: the wolf, as the biggest predator, belongs to our countryside and people do not need to be afraid of it. Wolves are quite shy. According to Aleš Vorl from the Czech University of Life Sciences (ČZU) in Prague, several hundred of them live in Czechia. Experts study their behaviour and movements using support of EU funds.
