I have thought the same, the government will not be able to do as they say, improving the situation by speeding up the assessing of each person that applies for asylum. Also deportation, as Mr McDowell explained, it is a cumbersome system. The accommodation is at breaking point and most of people want a turn around of the decision to take so many people in. As we are not obliged to opt in, now is our chance to change things, not make it worse. I do think a referendum should be held on this. Article 29 of the Constitution says that any new treaty has to be put before the Irish people before signing it.
Yes exactly there passing through everything without any consultation to us the Irish people and these things should go before us we're the taxpayers of this country and if our constitution is anything to go by we have a right to have a vote on it

As it stands we have a right to hold a referendum on this migration pact our traitors of government have no business signing us up to anything without it going before the people if this gets passed we won't have any say the EU will call the shot's on it and if we don't comply we'll face a fine we are crippled enough with taxes in this country without being forced to pay the EU more money because we can't take our quota of migrants

Senator McDowell makes brief mention that some economic immigration is desirable. Government however, refuses to discuss this subject with any transparency. I have not met anyone who supports this pact nor anyone who can specifically identify where these people are needed. We are looking at mass immigration of dodgy people who lose their travel documents to hide their identities. Therefore, until the subject id dealt with honestly, we the people do not want this pact.
There's little enough decent employment around for the Irish, so what EXACTLY are these (mostly) young men going to do? They could be on welfare indefinitely.
