I play Great Britain a lot and the Burgundy declaration on French subjects has been a consistent thing since domination. I always use that war to make Burgundy end their rivalry with me and then I improve relations with them like crazy. I am able to get the Burgundian inheritance pretty regularly due to this.

IMHO Burgundy declaring un-winnable wars is not a bug but due to Charles'"bold fighter" personality trait, which makes ruler underestimate enemies. Even before the current patch, Burgundy was notorious for declaring on stronger nations.

getting the Irland PU is really good since you don't have to core anything, so you can safe all the admin points and get 2 really good perma modifiers. And you dont have to deal with the irish rebels

I made some mistakes in my Angevin run, maybe if someone sees this it'll help them: - Always take the 'Crown of...' option to release the PU. You keep the modifiers even after you inherit/integrate the PU. With Ireland in particular, you can take all the provinces in one go then immediately pass the act. -- (Sub-point, the initial missions allow your subjects to own the land, but the second mission with the parliament act requires you to own it directly. It's pretty stupid. But when you do pass the act, your vassals still get subsumed into the new PU.) - If you want the Brentry achievement, for the love of god don't go Anglican - you have to be elected Emperor of the HRE, and if there was no Peace of Westphalia then have fun vassalising electors, flipping to Catholic and annexing every other Catholic monarchy until they vote for you. - Purely an aesthetic choice, but I went through the War of the Roses, changed dynasties a few times, and spent the rest of the game pining over my precious Lancasters :( Don't abandon them like I did...

Quick Note: the different rewards for the Mission "The War of the Roses" depend on whether you avoid or complete the disaster. It has nothing to do with letting the Rebels win. If you avoid the Disaster entirely, you get Dynastic security. If you end the Disaster you get a House united.

The Kingdom of Ireland isn't really roleplay. It is a fantastic option, and I HIGHLY recommend it. You get an added diplo slot, which you keep even after you later integrate them. You don't have to core them, so you save admin. But the real reason to do it is to avoid the insane rebels that rise up there. You basically need an army to keep Irish rebels down for 50 years, and it eats your money or manpower. It's well worth avoiding those. I take it every run I do with Engand.

One additional tip regarding the scripted parliament issues: the ones that are activated by decision DO NOT cancel out already active ones, meaning stuff like the bank act, curtail the french nobility can be chosen first the regular way and AFTERWARDS you can click the decisions. Helps with the mission tree quite a lot.

When I play France, I have found a way to always have the Burgundian inheritance for myself, even if they rivaled me and it's pretty simple : I do not rival Burgundy, I improve relations to the max with Burgundy, and sometimes I even go as far I giving them money, and then I go to war against an ally of Burgundy without cobelligerating Burgundy. I peace out Burgundy by canceling it's rivalty with me, and as soon as possible I royal marry Burgundy. When I peace out the country originally attacked, I can ally Burgundy. As France is OP, it's not really difficult, but with other countries it can be harder.

the conditional award for the war of the roses mission does not depend on if you win or lose the disaster, just if you go through it you get the aggressive expansion impact and if you reach the age of reformation without triggering it you get the other stuff.

29:50 Actually it's objectively better than you release Ireland thanks to the permanent modifier you get from 'The Crown if Ireland.' You don't have any immediate threats right now so why worry about getting stronger in the very short term (at the cost of precious admin points, no less?) 46:34 It's actually a good idea to wait to integrate provence because they get cores on Naples for free through their missions once they improve relations with the pope and they have Avignon.

Ah the Angevin Empire. Its an amazingly fun nation to play but it can be a challenge to get it off the ground. 1: Keep France as long as you can or want to. If you or your subject (important: Your subject so France needs to annex its appanages) own all of France and France has less than 40 provinces, you can instantly integrate them via the Parliament issue given to you by a mission. If France has more than 40 provinces, you have to own Anjou and Paris. If you don't have either of those, then you have to do it the old fashioned way which takes a million years. France has an insanely powerful military even as a subject so they will help you win a ton of wars especially in Spain and Italy, which is where your mission tree wants you to go. 1a: A neat trick you can do during the Hundred Years War is to, the day the war starts, select what you want in the peace deal and see who will be upset and join a coalition then. That way, you can begin improving immediately with the most powerful of those nations before you even win the war, resulting in them never even attempting to join the coalition. You can do this as any nation and is a good way to avoid coalitions in high AE areas. The most important nation to do this with is Austria. If Austria joins the coalition, it will almost always fire, but it will rarely fire if they don't. Getting Austria as an ally is also a bonus for avoiding them declaring on you if you get the Burgundian Inheritance, which you should definitely try to do whenever possible. 2: Burgundy will sometimes attack one of France's appanages like happened to Hawk here because the AI doesn't properly calculate the strength of a subject's subject. Its the same thing that caused Burgundy to attack Liege constantly in earlier patches because they didn't properly calculate that the Emperor would join since they aren't in the HRE. Use this war to end Burgundy's rivalry with you and you will probably be able to flip them friendly to get a royal marriage to them. Even if they don't declare, you have lots of ways to this, namely you get claims over their entire territory so you can just declare yourself and end it. You just have to do it fast as you never know when Charles the bold is gonna die. If you do get the PU, congrats, the hard part of the game is completely over. You may not even want the Horse event as having both France and Burgundy as continental PUs gives you an almost unstoppable military that you don't even have to pay for. 3: Savescum constantly. Angevin starts can be pretty RNG at times so keeping a healthy eye on the Alt+F4 keys can be a good idea. Especially if you mistime the WotR or your ruler dies before you can get France loyal enough, Burgundy's ruler dies before you can get a royal marriage in, etc. Side note: Losing France may as well be an instant game over. You won't survive the AE needed to get them back as a PU assuming you are even strong enough to get them back to begin with. 4: You want to take a lot of military ideas but you should generally go Diplo/Admin first because you are gonna be expanding into some super high dev territory, and it will also help you take colonial provinces as well since your first enemy after getting France and unifying the Isles is gonna be your old allies in Spain and Portugal. Your economy will, in effect, fix itself but only if you can core and state those provinces in a timely manner. Basically, you play the Angevins like you are France, except you are English and your capital is in London instead of Paris. Take Religious if you intend to go Anglican so you can convert quickly, otherwise don't go Anglican, or if you do go Anglican, make sure you don't take the decision that gives you a Reformation Center in London as that will TANK your relations with your PUs since they are all Catholic. 5: Make sure you do Estate Agendas constantly. With the new icons, its not as easy to forget, and while England isn't quite as bad as say, the Ottomans or Russia, you do have some pretty strong missions gatekept by Estate Agendas and Estate Loyalty. 6: Decide at the beginning of the game if you want to avoid the War of the Roses or not. Its easier to avoid it now but if you ever reach about 35% disaster progress, you will get an event that basically guarantees (it gives Henry -100% fertility) you will never get an heir except via event. This is completely RNG and you also have to make sure the heir has the Platagenet, York, or Lancaster dynasty as well. Similarly, the War can still fire later, for example you get Henry the 8th as a scripted 5/5/5 ruler around 1480ish and if you make him your ruler, he won't have an heir which can fire the disaster, which is especially disastrous since you only needed to wait a few more years to avoid it entirely. 29:07 As pointed out in other comments, it is ALWAYS better to make Ireland your PU. It gives you prestige, diplo rep and unjustified demands for the rest of the game, plus Ireland will sometimes colonize for you. I'm not sure if its a mission or a national idea or whatever, but I've noticed that Ireland with occasionally colonize some Canadian provinces. This is pretty good for giving you a foothold in the New World since you definitely wanna go the old France route of "you colonize by conquering all of the colonizers after they colonized everything" and take mostly military ideas.

Kind of a coincidence but I did a CK3 play through using Rollo of Normandie. I landed him and switched to him in non-ironman. Conquered duchy of Normandy, went crazy on culture converting almost everything in de jure Kingdom of France to Normans, then rather than holding the King of England following the RP, I formed Empire of Francia, conquered Kingdom of England, and granting all de jure duchies to people in my dynasty. Then formed a hybrid culture with another hybrid culture called Anglo-Norse (formed by the initial heathen army Norse characters and local Anglo-Saxon population). Which some how automatically was named Angevin. I know certain historically accurate cultures or subcultures do exist in the game files in CK3, like Tunisian, Algerian, and Moroccan etc. but was nice to see Angevin subculture being in that list. Not sure if this is an Easter Egg in Ck3 or what because you can't create Angevin Kingdom or Empire, so I had to change the name and coat of arms manually.

If you plan on going down the Angevin mission path, you can hold off completing the first mission and set up completing the missions on the british tree first. As you can complete them after clicking the mission but before actually making a choice in the popup. A good one to complete is the Royal Warrants because it allows you to make trade protectorates through a government Tier 7 reform later on in the game. Mainland Alliances, abolish the villeinage and found the royal navy are also missions you can do fairly early without it affecting the game too much by delaying taking the new mission tree

There is a reason to win the war of the roses. Higher prestige means less AE so there would be an even lower chance of a coalition forming and allow you to keep expanding faster.

I just so happened to be doing an HRE dismantle Angevin Kingdom currently too. I had the exact same thing happen where Burgundy declared a doomed war on a French subject immediately after I PU'd them. Realistically it was a great help to me, but i'm like you, the AI is clearly not seeing a subject's overlord's overlord or something to that effect which is leading to shenanigans, particularly in Europe. I had no clue Paradox had added the Angevin Kingdom and was intending to do a max diplo annex GB build, but I saw the Angevin Kingdom and changes to the mission tree and had to test this out. Angevin Kingdom stronk!!!

If you do the acts if crown for ireland, Spain, etc. Im pretty sure you get permanent bonuses so it's not just roleplay. Plus there's Ana chievement for doing all of them in 1 run

28:56 The permanent extra diplo relation and reduced cost for unjustified demands is actually a pretty good non-RP reason to do it. Also, you can save several hundred admin points by just not coring any of Ireland and then handing the island off to the PU instead.

I recently finished an Angevin Empire run which ended up being my best game ever. I PU'd Spain, had a number of vassals and by time the game ended I owned or my subjects/PU's owned all of the America's, most of Africa, most of the middle East and much of the Pacific Islands. I ended the game making about 2000 ducats a month.

Also the last time I played an angevin empire run it took me about 27 restarts to get the crownlands debate so results may vary greatly lol

I would love to see a Great Britain guide! Also, how would you deal with gov cap issues if you expanded more into the HRE? In my campaign, I decided to take over the Lubeck trade node, but I am at least 300-400 over my gov cap with courthouses.

I really wish the mission that gives Henry IV +2 to all stats also gave you an heir or just hard turned off the War of the Roses. The war started because of waning power and prestige of the English throne causing other problems to flare up, but the +2 to all stats says that this is an alternate timeline in which King Henry IV proves he isn't actually weak and infirm and can get stuff done, so the War of the Roses shouldn't trigger at all.

"I only had to restart once" then me over here having to restart at least six times before I got centralize ownership...not counting the times I had to restart because the AI DOES NOT SPLIT THEIR ARMIES UP. They only corner you and stackwipe you. You HAVE to whitepeace or something in the first war and get the union after once you can call in your allies.

Oldenberg getting the Burgundy PU is crazy, if you get the reduced cost for transferring vassals you could easily nab Burgundy as a VASSAL.

Not sure if you can still get favours with PUs, but if you can, there are two French provinces that a cores of England and Provence respectively. Why annex Provence? They have some really cool missions. Get them Corsica and they get the re-conquest of Naples. An easy into into the Med for England.

How did you finish war of roses disaster during the war with France? In my run pretender couldn't win because "rebels cannot fully break a country at war". Anyone else experienced this?

Note that Provence is a really good subject - if you can get them to 100 dev or owning Corsica, they get cores on all of 1444 Naples.

1. You don't have to core anything in Ireland if you're taking the PU option. The bonus you get also stays after you integrate Ireland, so it's objectively the better option imo. 2. You could've waited on annexing Provence. Ask France to return core province to them to remove one more province from them, and get Provence to 100 dev so they get core on Naples. If your subject Provence has the Neapolitan lands, all of them would be transferred to the Italian PU when you complete the Italian mission. 3. You could've just ended rivalry with Burgundy in any war you had with them. You don't even have to declare on them directly for that.

just a note the AI not considering subjects of subjects when declaring war has been an issue for a bit, at least since 1.35. it kept happening in my last Angevin game (ironically enough). from my pov, its common enough to take advantage of in a 1.36 guide.

It would make sense to break Burgundy’s rivalry with you if you’re looking to RM them for BI. I feel that would have been worth mentioning as a novice may not consider it in a peace deal.

LOL 1448 event didn't pop up yet, i guess ill wait and see when it will. Managed to get Burgundy. Started a quick war against them, force them out of rivalry, then used every single possible decision and influence on them, giving them money etc, and they finally liked me.

I just got the perfect start, and Castille declared on Aragon for the Navarra throne, they destroyed my game for a 3 dev province in the spanish mountains

With Irelane you should release them as PU and get the free inheritance later. There's some pretty good permanent modifiers ifbyou do like diplo rep and diplo relations. Plus Ireland will just sit and dev their province so they're all like 30-40 by the time you get the free inhertance

If Burgundy delare on a French subject like shown, you should peacethem out by ending their rivalry with you in order to improge your chances of getting the inheritance.

Provence gets cores on Naples with Corsica or enough dev, which is useful if Castile/Spain took that PU. Also, Italy as a PU makes conquering the Pope possible as a Catholic, but that would happen anyway if he joined the HRE and you revoked.

Kingdom of Ireland is such a useful event - it means you don't have to spend a shit load of admin coring Ireland; just take the provinces and release them again as a pu

At around @0:22:00 you chose Diplo over Influence for a vassal heavy game. This seems like a balance issue between the ideas groups? Isn't Influence aimed at vassal swarm and Diplo more of a *Oops, did I conquer that? Please forgive me* smooth international relations kind of idea group?

I am not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I can't get that +5% crown lands parliament debate. I tried reloading at least 20 times and even played several playthroughs for 4-5 years and never saw it. Does anyone have any ideas what is going on or how I can get it? I keep waiting for it to show up before I give out the +1 mana privileges and that is really hurting my mana generation. Thank you all in advance!

Alternatively you can sell maine to provance, do the mission and curry favours with your allies. When You are ready, use union CB from the mission and then defeat France. Less tryhatd option in my opinion.

Why not force Burgundy to remove you as their rival during one of those wars?

I'm having a good run. I did just get the Burgandy attacking France Subject war. I have overtaken it and am winning. Not sure of how to best exploit it. Do I make them end their rivalry with me and gold or do I I take france cores to get closer to completing mission. This war fired shortly after acquiring France but before coalitions have completey ended and war on Scotland has not started.

If you're a newer player you'll probably need to just promise castille/aragon/burgandy some land, you probably won't be able to beat the French without their help.

You know you can just get both the English and Angevin missions: simply don't activate the mission where you have to choose until you can complete all English missions while the event to choose Angevin missions is open.

I tried to let the rebels win during the war with france, but they were not able to take power until I was at peace. So I lost the union with the new king. You should’nt use console commands in a walkthroug.

I have to say this guide is not up to your usual quality, sorry :( First of all, just minor, but the crownland issue is _super_ rare, you'll have to restart 10+ times on average to get it once. Then first you go "Well _maybe_ you're able to call in your allies in the war against France, but this is optional" to only a minute later declare that the strategy to win this war is "Never fight the French stacks and just hold on until your allies can save you", and _then_ you finish by recommending having the pretender rebels enforce their demands before the war ends which does not work, rebels don't enforce demands while you're at war, I tried it and it's the same for the War of the Roses, the rebels stuck at 95% even after conquering the whole of England and all that happens is your nation plunges into bankruptcy. I'm not saying this just to dunk on you, you're my favorite EU4 youtuber and usually I love your stuff, but this just seems off :(

In my game, provence had a reconquest causus over most of Italy, I have no idea why. I didn't take advantage of it because it looked like I was going to inherit Italy (like I did with Spain, YAY DIPLO TECH!) buy Italy went to Republic, after the reconquest timed out
