EU4 1.36: Byzantium World Conquest Opening Moves (1444 - 1543)

I think you should've went with one faith too. Byzantium might be the single best country for it, its such a waste to not do it

Another common way to deal with the reversal is to go after your claims in Naples. If you can complete the war with Epirus before Alfonso dies, you can move your troops to Rome (typically allying the Pope for your mission) and take your claims. All of these get you up to 92 development or so. This greatly reduces the amount of development you have to do at the beginning, gives you a 60 tradition admiral to fight the Ottomans, and gets the land before they get PU'd by Castille/Aragon/France. It's also worth noting that you can remove the debuff to your ship building time by getting Venice/Genoa to 50 relations.

Nice guide. I'd just add two things: 1) should have spy networked ottomans earlier. 2) Should have moved a merchant to Ragusa, and improved relations very early in the game for Establish Communities. Great guide!

I can still remember getting the Rome achievements back in 2018, this video reminds me of that, I love this so much.

Just a heads up, the next major patch will be updating the Holland Mission Tree, the Burgundian Mission Tree and the Mission Trees of Middle East Minors. All of which will impact the ability to attempt to follow this playthrough point to point. Holland and other Frisian minors will now become extremely rebellious after the Burgundian Succession once the Reformation starts, guaranting the creation of the Netherlands should the territories remain in AI contol, also will make it a pain for the player if not dealt with quickly. Also, the Turkic and Persian minors will be more of a threat now as their missions will now result in the region being more turbulent, no longer will they be gobbled up by AQ and QQ, it also means you'll likely have to contend with a Mamluks with strong allies as opposed to Mamluks with more territories.

31:38 I guess the remains of the ottoman army became mercenaries since their empire has fallen, and since they were ortodox slaves maybe they would be happy to aid the Byzantines for the correct price, similar to the Knight templar.

Very nice video! I will have to try this approach and see if I can finally rescue poor, abused Byzantium. The only thing I'm worried about in terms of repeatability is how you were within one month of bankruptcy.

The newest Update has made Byzantium super fun and after the hard beginning, they are super powerful. In my last play, I did a world conquest one tag, one faith, one culture on Ironman. It was my first one and can recommend using Byzantium. They have good culture and faith convert, that can be boosted with ideas and great buildings. They can also get special vassals that automatically get annexed with the ruler’s death. Did also all Byzantium mission, that are also more fun now.

I'm even slower by attacking Ottoman at 1470 because Ottoman refuse to attack me but once i attack them Ottoman are weak enough for my alliance especially Austria-Hungary to steamroll the Ottomans. This allow me to expand without dealing with loans so my realm are pretty much stable at the get go. The Greek merchant extortion also really helps my finance while i cannot take 1% loans(My merchant understanably are very upset for awhile) Finally i find it funny the mercenary discount mission you though it would be use to fight Ottoman but i just use it to ally Austria and scare off Ottoman. I even disband the mercenary once i ally Austria except free company haha

I get this more of chill game, but personally a better start is to attack and take land from Naples as soon as they are freed from Aragon giving you a bunch of development and crow land early on (assuming you didn’t give out to many privileges early to keep there influence low). It’s a little tricky though since they still have a pretty strong army even when they just get independence and have no allies, if you ally and get military access with the Papal state you can just park your army at there border and immediately siege there capital which is usually there only fort, once you take it be there main priority allowing you to carpet siege most of there country easily allowing you to take over without fighting there army once. You can annex most of the state other then one or two provinces, it is a lot of development to use adm points on and you’ll have to deal with rebels with them being Italian catholic provinces and it’s already pretty RNG when Aragon decides to free them, but I think it’s more efficient then just developing the provinces to remove the bad privilege. But again I understand this is supposed to be a more chilled experience.

I would recommend trying to ally muscovy, they are a good defensive alliance

There's actually a very easy byz strat, and that's to start as the ottomans, release and play as byz You can get 12k ducats as byz this way,rennaisance, all of your cores + what the ottomans own at game start as vassals within 10 years of game start Fun fact: you can also start as ming and abuse the unguarded the nomadic frontier with the chinese releaseables to get 150k ducats and own all of china also within 10 years of game start, its a very very easy WC

why do you choose quantity for a world conquest? I seldom get mil ideas, stuff like diplo eligious\admin is so much more important for wc when I was doing the Byz WC in this patch I actually chose espionage as one of my first ideas so I can lay hands on the italian provinces early on and have -20% AE doing so
