Since the second part of the name is land and the Dutch had a colonial empire, colonize and own all places that end with the word land, Greenland, Iceland, Ireland, Newfoundland and New Zealand
Since historically a Dutch explorer discovered Australia, as Holland form the Netherlands and own all of Australia. And as a sidegoal conquer the Lowlands region.
@@Kasaaz It was indeed called that (until the British got their hands on it). In Dutch, New Zealand is simply called Nieuw-Zeeland, exactly like the Dutch province it was named after. I assume the change in spelling probably reflects how the Brits pronounced Zeeland.
@@samvanderstaak7296 its a european tradition like with both english and dutch to put new in front and then in the back a city or region of the old world from that nation kinda why the naming scheme of australia and new zeeland is the way it is
Also new amsterdam still exists but it moved to suriname when the british renamed new amsterdam to new york fun fact the city in suriname still kept the same name if I recall correct
I've been told that there's no real reason not to just call this nation "The Ayyubids" since that's what they would call themselves and probably what other people called them too. Byzantium was still Byzantium even when THEY were reduced to only one city.
When the Middle East expansion pack drops there should be a formable unique to Hysn Kayfa that's called "the Ayyubid Empire" and they should get a mission tree too.
by the end of this video I was literally dying. Love the monotone attitude as the entire game completely shits on you. Funniest thing ever. Love the content, keep it up :D
As holland, realize your true ambition to leave the lowlands and fully core and have your capital in Tibet. A true “started from the bottom now we’re here” moment
Maybe as Holland, try to do another achievement run? Have you already got the Sinaasappel achievement? I'm from Holland, by the way. Always enjoying your work!
Hawk think of the sick colab you can do with Zlewikk can even he save the campaign. Sad you didn't get the achievement and fighting to the bitter end but its good to see failures and not constant wins.
i like your videos but i rly feel ur not rly trying in a-z and ur sabotaging urself to much ... its fun to see someone fail its not fun to see someone trying to fail by playing bad xD
When I did this achievement I got a lucky early alliance with the Ottos and steamrolled through the Mamluks. Then I formed Persia and went for "This is Persia." Probably my favorite EU4 campaign ever.
this is quite a bit stronger than the ardabil into persia one just because you have to beat up QQ and Mameluks and do it fast enough before Ottomans starts showing up. if i recall, the way I got it was by staying allied with the mameluks until Ottomans are fully crippled and expanding into Persian node instead and then coming back on the Mameluks once I was rich enough to outspend them
When i played my Saladin legacy campaign i got lucky with an ottoman alliance early on and they pretty much carried me all the way to victory. Only had to backstab them eventually since i needed one ottoman province for the achievement. an epic boss battle to end an otherwise unexpectedly easy run.
As the Netherlands, successfully hold the peak Dutch Empire: All of- New Netherlands, Benelux, Cape Colony, Suriname, Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, St. Maarten, all of Indonesia, Ceylon/Sri Lanka and Perth
I don't know what they did this patch, but allies are being quite useless. In my Riga game, I got Austria in a war against Poland, but they kept running around like chikens with little stacks and I ended up having to white peace =(
I've had luck by attacking Aq-Qoyunlu, getting lucky by them not allying the ottos, and basically replacing them. From then on, like you did, it's basically a race to destroy Qara-Qoyunlu and the Mamluks before the Ottos get any ideas. I guess I got lucky because I only had to fight the Ottos once. Was able to ally Hungary and Naples though, maybe thats a route to explore, as having a shared rival should be enough to get you over the tipping point for the alliance.
If you want to prevent a coalition war from triggering or a powerful nation attacking you, simply take mercenaries or increase your army size. This will drag the war out, even if they start the war they will attack a couple years later which will give you the chance of getting allies
As far as I know, when you hit 80 trust, your allies won't desire your land. So having one guy curry favours with the Ottomans and constantly improving trust might have prevented the alliance break
I must’ve been very lucky when I did my run because thanks to Religious Diplomats and Diplo rep I managed to ally Ottomans within the first five years and then I’d already won, since I used favors with them in the first war against Mamluks and just made sure to not give them anything that’d give them claims on my land. Edit: Oh, Red Hawk allied them too! Can’t wait to see what happens! Edit 2: Oh another standard accidental war declaration, shocking!
Hawk Im finishing up this achievement now. The trick is to focus on Arabia and the mamluks and don’t poke the ottoman bear. Let them have what they want and beat them up mid game after you take a couple of mil ideas
Got it on my first run, hahaha, you need a fast early war to expand, a potential alliance with the Ottomans and then just go Meta ideas and eat thw Mamluks. The achievement that really tortured me personally was Timur's legacy.
For Germiyan in releasables you should do nothing and improve realtions with Mamuluks and hope they will support your independence, they didn't want to in my first run, but in second they did, probably because they were bordering the Ottomans. If you royal marry the ottomans go restart. Once you get Mamuluks to support your independence you should either wait for them to fight someone in the balkans or declare immediately because they will placate your rulers to get you under 50 liberty desire. You may want to make a backup save for war just so you don't have to do a full restart if Mamuluk ai trolls you, also if Ottomans ally Tunis you should probably restart or go all in with mercs to try to hold out until Mamuluks deal with Tunis(although you'll probably go bankrupt this way). Once you win the war you should take Gelibolu, Constantinople, whatever you can in north Anatolia and war reparations and stay as far away from Mamuluks as long possible because you are still not strong enough to fight them and you won't need any allies because you'll still be surrounded by the Ottomans. After that you'll probably fight theodoro, crimea, georgia or circassia depending on their allies and then probably even more weakened Ottomans if Austria got Hungary and declared on them, otherwise you wait until Mamuluks declares on the Ottomans and if the Ottomans declare on you then mercs and debt it is, after that second war you should start looking for allies to prevent Mamuluks and Austria from declaring on you and the rest is up to you. Hope this helps and good luck.
Dude you can keep the call to arms up for a month or two, almost three xD You didn't have to wipe your own army like that at the start. Otherwise, fun stuff:) _Edit:_ Never mind, you're playing the nation like it's a European major, and like the game ends 200 years earlier than it does 😂 Relax, man! You got a good start, you squandered it by overreaching. You have 400 years, and the last 100 will be faster to expand than the previous 300. All you need is a stable base and PATIENCE. By the way, getting a border with the Ottomans is what hurried their hostility towards you. Thinking you'll not war the Ottomans anyways before the achievement is done is a a fool's thinking anyways, so there's absolutely no reason to grab the northern cores early. Again, you can't do this if you play like you're a major. You need to appease the big bois, then be extremely opportunistic and backstabby. And *NEVER EVER* war big wars before *ALL* your nationailistic rebels are *GONE* or if you *just* defeated them, and have decent manpower/control. I can not emphazise enough how you need to be patient after watching this. I've played a lot of small nations because I think it's fun, and it's my favourite part of eu4, playing the underdogs. I have almost 4k hours
I've actually played as Hisn Kayfa recently and it's easier than you'd expect. You can RM the Ottomans day one, ally Ajam and Dulkadir and restart until AQ doesn't have any ally. Then you can full annex AQ, rival Dulkadir (very important), ally the Ottomans and release Syria and Iraq. Expand into the Caucasus to cut Northern Ottoman expansion (I recommend releasing Georgia as well). You'll be able to declare on the Mamelukes for the cores of Syria and have the Ottomans give them all to you. You can fight AQ with Ajam. I didn't even struggle with money despite keeping the horse. Ended up converting to Judaism and forming Persia. Fun game.
Hisn Kayfa (Hasankeyf in modern Turkish) currently sits underwater due to a highly controversial dam project in Turkey (the Ilısu Dam) that has caused the banks of the Tigris to rise and engulf it, leading to a loss of many archaeological sites and the displacement of over 80,000 people. Despite local and international protests that even led foreign investors to pull their funding, the construction of the dam was finished in 2018 and by 2020 Hasankeyf was submerged. While some historical monuments were moved beforehand, there are still many ancient buildings that were unable to be moved. The construction of the dam also led to water shortages and environmental damages in Iraq, which combined with civil unrest and low rainfall led to severely low harvests in 2018 and 2019.
For my achievement, I was never able to make the AQ/Syria strategy work. Ottomans turned hostile too quickly. Instead, I allied them and expanded to the east & south while letting them eat the Mamluks. Eventually broke alliance with them, waited until the Ottomans got involved in a war with Austria, declared war bringing in my Polish ally, took a bunch of undefended territory and peaced out. Switched to Austria & Russia allies for my next Ottomans war. After that, chain wars until I got the achievement.
I had to try for myself. Ottomans beat me to conquering egypt but i managed to ally austria mid 1500's and it was easy after that. (no to mention the austrians got a PU on spain, after which it became speed 5 to the finish lolz). Also, having Timurids _> Mughals as an ally for almost all the game did nothing for me. They refused to join against the ottomans the entire game.
It's a little strange that you couldn't succeed considering your usual performance... A few tips, if you try to follow the mission tree, it's hard to success due to the Ottoman disaster. Use the Mamluk as a mercenary in the beginning to get the Syrian and Iraqi cores, break the alliance with them, and then form an alliance with the Ottomans to absorb the Mamluks first. If you absorb most of the Mamluk lands before your relationship with the Ottomans is ruined, you can beat the Ottomans in a final showdown.
Thats why I never play eu4 again and just watch videos. The game is fun, until you lose just one war. Then it is just a slippery slope to a failed campain. It also shows you the secret buffs the ai is getting: They'll never explode after a bancrupcy, in fact they recover instantly after a lost war.
Just watched your video, I think standing in the way of Ottomans mission tree is even worst than previous patches. They stick to their plan and at the beginning of the game are nearly impossible to beat if they're not in 2 big wars at the same time, say Mamluks and Hungary -Austria at the same time.
Definitely just pushing too hard too fast on all these campaigns. You don't *need* to finish the achievement by 1500. Just grinding your country into the ground
Keep going! Get your independence supported, rip into Ajam, and get your revenge later. Make sure to religiously and culturally convert all Otto and Mam lands as retribution :)
Pro Tipp: Call Ottomans into your wars repeatedly and never take the provinces so they always have a truce and you can keep expanding into the Mamluks until you are strong enough to beat them.
I don't know if it's viable, but if you build trust to 80, the AI will permanently (while your trust is 80+) remove all of your provinces as provinces of vital interest. I doubt you could get trust to 80 that fast when you're that close to the Ottomans to begin with, though.
Odds are you should've attacked elsewhere and then come back around to get the harder to conquer provinces when you were a lot stronger. As for holland, why not be Hol-y and conquer the Papal States?
As Holland, come as close as you can to game-ruining yourself without actually doing it (Tulip Crash) or fight a war as long as possible (Eighty Years War)
Its the ottoman war that was the turning point, they still got the siege age bonus so its all about winning battles and trying to rush forts afterwards. Even good players cant ironman that fully, at best with reloading saves they get that war into a white peace/stalemate. If you or someone else tries this archievement the cheese I like doing is giving lands in war to useful allies like the otto's for favors and then push trust above 80 with those favors. Once you get your ally in that position they likely never wont turn on you. In this game you couldve snaked slightly more northeast and start wars agianst georgia, crimean, circassia etc and feed ottomans some those lands for favors to keep on your side. the claim bordering claims age ability helps a lot with pulling this strat off btw.
I think the new favors mechanics make you gain trust in your allies more, which increases reasons for accepting vassalization, which means long term powerful allies might offer it.
ive never done this achivements but my assumiton would be that there are 2 options of beating this either hope the ottoms either collops or jsut never attack you and play like you do or instead of going for the requierd provinces you just try to conquer persia into indea maby arabia and turn around in the endgame and try to beat the ottomas that way.
the trick of hisn kayfa is to basically curry favors with the ottomans and expand east/north and slowly build up your strength so you can backstab the ottomans
