Once Russia forms and is your vassal it is not a bad idea to give them one of the "gatekeeper" provinces and let them through to colonize the rest of siberia for you. May as well utilize their powerful abilities for your own benefit if possible.

There is a strategy for this. Steal/buy maps to no CB Shirvan/vassalize Shirvan. Use their claims to attack neighbor. Seize province. I forget the next step but the idea is to get over into the HRE, taking advantage of the same no AE because not discovered trick that you can use in India.

This strategy is confirmed on patch 1.27! I didn't see anything in the patch notes that clearly states that this technique is patched out as of 1.28+ so this guide is considered current until further update. Let me know if you enjoy the guide, this is a fun strategy and I hope you enjoy the easy world conquest!

Let me add some revelations I did because I repeated this strategy about 100 times :))) (I'm pretty much unsuccesfull in mid game) 1. Starting with building 2 cogs is not so important - much better way is stack galleys because of naval dominance. Sometimes hosokawa is eager to attack your fleet and without 6 or 7 galleys it is defeat for about 85%. Galleys are helpfull too in war with Ashikaga. 2. There are 3 effective nations Hosokawa attack - Kono, Amago and one of Tsutsui/Ishiki - I recomend always ally all three of them (Decision between last two depend on strenght of their allies - check every month) - works for 99% 3. In war with hosokawa wait for good time to attack. Kono is always allied with some ohter OPM - let Kono get occupied and attack hosokawa after it siege second target - occupy hosokawas part of shikoku and go for settsu with ship blocade (you pretty much lose all your sailors here but it is worthy). If you are lucky Kono is allied with OPM in Kyushu (most southern island) and you can easily landlock hosokawa armies here. Be cautious about sieging because your allies are very eager to seige too and they can take provinces from you - Settsu is really important. Btw if Kono is allied with two or more OPM's there is very good chance Hosokawa lose even without your intervention so in this case don't wait as I mentioned before and rush attack. In war with Amago it is Jackpot - you will almost always have free way to all hosokawas provinces - slow down game and take whatever you want. 3. Don't switch your religion before Ainu tries to ally you. It is very good diversion which help you to divert japanese forces and you almost every time can occupy Kyushu (primary target) or even Shikoku in war this war. 3. Sea war with Ashikaga - Ming is much more vulnerable here than mentioned in video. Be very carefull with you ships and try to catch small groups of ships. Once you kill about 10 galleys your naval dominance should be secured - Save your sailors as much as possible. 4. Land war Ashikaga has few options and strategies what you can use. Ming is pretty much coward and sometimes have serious issues with rebels/wars which can end up war too early and cause you to restart. Main objective in cases when almost whole japan is in war with you is landlocking at least half of Japan armies in Kyushu or Shikoku. This might be tricky but in about 75% cases (even without Ainu) there is chance to lock both straits simply because of neutral daimios blocking one or both of them. Shikoku island can be used for same strategy, but it requires spliting your ships and blocking 3 straits so I recommend it only when one or two straits are blocked by neutral daimios. If blocking japanese troops is impossible, just try to divert their forces by your army trying to landing on the opposite side of Japan. When landing army locks AI starts to relocate their troops there eager to destroy you. Simply run with your ships and let ming do the trick in Kyushu (target it for them). Repeat several times - Japanese will always hunt you. 5. No CB wars aren't necessary - resign to colonise fast and use your colonies just to border your enemies for short time when you just fabriciate claim and abandon colony (1. colony established should be in Philipines). 6. Even native supression is very tempting I recommend Native Coexistence Policy because it saves you many troubles - and more importantly manpower and gold. 7. Didn't tested yet but I use contribute to capital every time. Seems like fair thing for free developing capital and decreasing cost of annexation. 8. Nation ideas - really important thing to think about read some guides for it because I very struggle to keep my blobing nation happy and my economy growing. I revealed admin power is not so problematic in this tactics and administrative ideas are pretty much waste early on. First idea group should be exploration as mentioned in video for chance to spawn. I didn't tried another ideas because trying to spawn Colonialism is tooooo much tempting and this group is really helpful to force bordering nations mentioned above. Second and third ideas are essential and most important. As viable choice I see - Quantity and Humanist. In my games I pretty much struggle with three things: Manpower, Gold and Rebels. Quantity is absolute savior for wars to come and helps you fighting more offten. Rebels could really suck your gold and manpower too and so I recommend humanist too. I sometimes used another ideas and I should mention why I forsook them or ideas I think about. Religious - really helpful for religious war CB - but missionaries are expensive now and this idea mainly saves your monarch points which I realised as minor problem, confusingly enough. Influence - Really good idea group but you really struggle with diplo early on and this means you could not effectively fill them up fast enough. I recommend them as fourth group. Administrative - missionary cost is lowered less than needed and coring cost is not so viable option for this strategy. I almost every time overflow with admin points. Dont recommend this until 5th or 6th group for bonus with influence (another -20% diplo annex cost

I really like your suggestions Vladimir, I implemented some of them into my 'master plan'. I hope you don't mind that I hijack your comment to lay out some of my own ideas for the playthrough. Some things in there you already mentioned. It can really be frustrating because of the first war against Hosokawa plus Ming being a complete bitch. Stage one and two: Hosokawa is most likely to attack the one core states of Kono, Tsutsui, Amago, or Isshiki. The factor determining this for the most part is the quality of the alliances these states form but for my tries (must be more than 200 by now) they attacked Tsutsui roughly 50% of the times. Sometimes Hosokawa attacks without their allies, which makes the fight much easier. If Hosokawa declares war too early and eats up one of the states, it is still possible to wait for the next war that will most likely happen within the next one or two years. Also keep in mind that you only need a core neighboring Kyoto, it doesn't have to be Settsu (even though it is the best choise because of the Trade node). But I think the most efficient strategy is to restart. To me, one promising situation was when Tsutsui was allied to Amago. Hosokawa would declare on Tsutsui and siege down their fort and then would move on to Amago's level 3 capital fort. Because this would take ages, it leaves enough time to land on Hosokawa capital and siege it down (siege pips on the king would be advantageous, of course) and maybe even take some other provinces. A crucial part of this is your Navy because, by the time you are able to reach 100 relations or shortly after, most daimyos cancel military access because the Shogun is already pissed off at you. One strategy here might be to place the navy with troops on them in the Kii Channel before the enforce peace intervention and then declare when there is not much or no Hosokawa navy. Chances are their navy goes down almost instantly or doesn't attack in the first place which enables you to land your troops. If safe to do so, remember to blockade the capital with your navy while sieging While at war, you might want to arrange a royal marriage with Ming (to get a queen and potentially an heir) and start raising Ming's oppinion of you. Stage three: After taking Settsu, I think the best position to put your army and navy is in Mings territory. Keep the Galleys coming and keep your navy where Ming stations their main attack fleet (the one with heavy ships and galleys). Once the Shogun declares war on you, simply set the navy to full maintainence and attach it to Mings attack fleet. This way you can also keep track of the destruction of the enemy fleet easily. It is essential to help Ming kill the Shogun fleet because only when the fleet is decimated enough, Ming will land troops. Ming's fight and especially her taking of Kyoto still takes quite a bit of luck and can be a pain in the ass (Ming is a bitch). I have had it happen that Ming would take Kyoto but not transfer the province to me (even though she gave me all the other provinces). Might have been because of low Prestige. Don't embargo the Shogun. In a trade war you can still demand Kyoto but it would be a gamble to get enough Superiority with Ming loosing some of her stacks. The war will be easier if many daimyos are at war with each other when the Shogun declares war. Also, Ming not being at war and with high manpower is desirable. To ensure this, one could check the alliances forming around Ming in the beginning of the game so that Ming can eat them easily (especially Oirat alliances have been a pain for me). After 1450 and the Reformation, you can start investing into Settsu to spawn it. However, there is an event that fires quite often and gives -10% development cost in Settsu. You might want to wait for it to safe some mana. Stage four: After becoming Shogun, build as many troops as possible to raise the Vassals opinions asap. Also, even though the daimyos are pissed off at you, you can still enable divert trade for all of them which should net you around 6 to 10 ducats per month in trade in Nippon easily. Even if all of them are at 100%, they will not declare war because you still have Mings protection. What I try to do next is normally to no cb Yeren or Jianzhou on the mainland so that I can switch religion to Tengri and can build up cb against korea, haixiu (?), and Yeren/Jianzhou. Seize basically any opportunity you get when they fight each other to take out the weak. If you also opt for Tengri, it is useful to conquer some Hindu provinces to get heathens to be accepted, if you have the DLC cossacks, that is (maybe need to no cb in Indonesia/Malacca, or use colonists as Vladimir suggested). As for ideas, I like to go: Colonial, Administrative, Quantity, Offensive or Defensive (the admin/offensive idea for vassal income is huge until you get your trade up and running and even then quite a bit and Defensive/Humanist reduces war exhaustion), Humanist, Replace colonial with Trade or Influence, Influence/Trade Stage five: I'd say that the purpose of this stage is to prepare taking down Ming and to increase your trade income. Start colonizing Alaska and start building cb as soon as you can reach the first nations on the american west coast. Take them and then discover mexico. Meanwhile, try getting your foot down in Malaysia. It is very important to secure trade power in Malacca because it generates easily double of what Nippon does (and much more later). But as long as you are not at 60% to 80% trade power in the node, it won't be effective to change the home node (you will also need light ships to get trade power in Hangzhou). Also, try getting land (and cb) access to all of Mings tributiaries. If you can take most of them down you can drive mandate either into negative numbers or at least +- 0, so that it decreases as soon as ming cancels your tributiary status (which happens when your effective development is roughly 10 or 20% above Ming's). You can even grant land bordering Ming to your Daimyos to decrease mandate generation further. Note: sometimes Daimyos don't 'want the land' that you grant them. This only happens as long as you are Ming's tributiary. Afterwards you can feed them everything in coring range. As soon as you can cb states in Mexico, do so and try to pick one with many vassals. Then, don't realease the vassals in the peace deal but just fully annex the country you declared on - you will automatically get their vassals! As soon as you get the trader from colonial mexico (or any colonial nation) it is far more useful to feed/create new vassals instead of feeding the provinces to the colonial nation because colonies only give 50% of their trade power while your vassals will give you 100% (remember to check divert trade for all the new vassals regularly). After getting full control of Malacca and with enough light ships in Hangzhou, it will be rather easy to take down all the leftover tributaries and once Ming's mandate is at zero/very low, it should be easy to take her down, even with lower manpower. When you conquer Ming, remember to take the Hangzhou trade region provinces first so you can use the light ships elsewhere. Also, you can funnel all your trade power to beijing for one month to get Global Trade to spawn there (unless you are very unlucky and some other node has become huge).

After repeating the start 6+ times before it finally worked out, I have now nearly conquered the world with this strategy. I definitely agree with your tips for the early game. I've never seen Hosokawa declare on one of their rivals unless they border them, but usually they will go for Kono or Tsutsui because they are tiny. I also don't go for cogs but instead buy one infantry up to my force limit of 6, that way the 3 starting cogs can ferry them all across in exactly two trips and I can save up money for buying galleys while waiting for Ashikaga to declare (I can usually avoid Hosokawa's fleets without a naval battle). My opinion on idea groups is quite different though. Exploration of course comes first to spawn colonialism, and you're right that you have a lot of extra admin points after that. But that's why I take administrative second, because the earlier you get it the better. You will spend less to core the centres of trade that you're taking and the reduced interest and merc maintenance will help with your earlygame manpower troubles. After that I take humanist. It's a much-have just like administrative, because it reduces unrest so I won't need to raise autonomy anymore once absolutism hits. It's also better to get early since it reduces idea cost. After that I took influence next because when you have 100+ vassals it's crazy overpowered. The vassal force limit contribution helps a lot and the income from vassals actually becomes very significant. Income from vassals is nearly the size of my trade income now and more than double my income from taxes. Also why are you talking about integrating vassals? I've integrated a vassal twice this game, the first time was a big daimyo in Japan so that I could control my whole capital area and release two OPM daimyos instead, and the second time was just to get a bigger map font in Siberia. Integrating vassals just shrinks the swarm. No reason to ever do it. Next was my first millitary group, offensive, it's mostly essential for the siege ability but also gives a little force limit boost. The extra general pips I don't really care about yet since why make your own generals if your vassals almost always have a good one? I took defensive after for the army trad, reduced attrition and the policy with humanist for even less attrition. Helps with manpower a lot so you don't need quantity. Around that time I also dropped exploration since I had blocked of Russia and started three colonial nations and didn't need a colonist anymore. By the way I kept native suppression the whole game since it really helps with early-game growth and at higher tech you can just keep a single merc on every colony and it's fine (didn't want to lose a stab for switching native policy). But anyway I took diplomatic instead, because I had diplomats working around the clock to improve relations with small places that would accept an offer of vassalisation. As Shogun you can have +3 dip rep for 10 years so if you take influence and diplo ideas and take a dip rep advisor you can even diplo vassalise some HRE members despite still being Shinto and having your government rank stuck on kingdom. Also the reduced warscore cost helps a lot and diplomatic gives you policies for more available mercenaries and less merc maintenance. At this point I was hitting my merc cap so I went for that. After I destroyed Ming, taking the Beijing area for myself and releasing nearly everything else as small nations which I diplo-vassalised (only two or three actually spawned by rebellion because apparently getting Mingplosion to happen is really hard in MoH) no one has coalitioned me since. In fact ever since then I am counted as so big that I have no valid rivals. Which is great because then the big nations who would normally rival me and ally each other rivalled each other instead and I've been picking them off one by one, often even calling another great power into the war. So yeah it's definitely a solid strategy, very broken, probably should get patched... Best of luck with it though.

A couple of pointers for this strategy. Assign a merchant to Beijing as well as Nippon at the start. Also - Spend the diplo points to pick up an Admiral with maneuver points if you can. You will need the leader for your fleet to stand against Hoosokawa and their allies. Send the 2 barques w/admiral to Beijing for more funds. I have also had some success landing in Yamana territory if you can get mil access. If you land coming in from the top you can avoid the Hoosokawa fleets. I've pulled off the strategy and made Shogun, but couldn't stop my daimyo's from combining and struggled with keeping their liberty below 50%. I was also about 20-25 years too slow given the pace shown in the video. I do think adding a barque to the mix is a good idea too, but I also was too slow so maybe that was part of the reason. Regardless this is a terrific strategy and lots of fun to attempt. I've been playing EU-IV for 2500+ hours and videos like this keep me coming back. Great job!

HEAVY rng based start. The first war isn't too bad. I won several times without a single battle. But the war with Ashikaga is brutal. I would say more than half of the time ming gets their transport fleet caught out early and that is an immediate restart. When you DO get lucky enough to get naval dominance, idk what was going on in the video but I consistently get declared on by a unified Japan. Ming will glacially transfer over stacks of 15 and get wiped. In my best attempt Ming got a total of 50k troops onto Japan, totally ignored the provinces i set them to focus on in favor of sieging totally worthless coastal forts, and eventually were stack wiped by the 70k Japanese death stacks. I imagine that once you are Shogun, the swarm is disgusting and I would like to try it but getting past the first war is way too frustrating. Even more so since the war would be a complete cake walk if the player had control of Ming's armies. Just AI stupidity holding you back.

Also, ming doesn't transfer occupation of Kyoto. I was extremely lucky and ashikaga seiged it back and let me get it for myself. Playing this campaign rn, it works! Though with some changes, like in the comment below. Basically, AI won't attack 12-15k stacks, because each daimyo and Ashikaga think their forces (separately) are smaller, so you gotta take Settsu, and then maintain two stacks on Kyoto and Settsu (or release Hosokawa as a vassal, if you can, and enable scutage on them, so AI won't be able to occupy Settsu). Then, you have to wait for a while, until Ashikaga won't agree to cede Tokyo in a peace deal. It's a waiting game, do everything possible to stay afloat and don't go bankrupt until the peace deal. After the peace deal (assuming you didn't forget to pick independent daimyo reform), you can enable divert trade on all daimyos and collect trade, because half of them are disloyal anyway, and earn like 3 ducats a month and repay your debts quickly. You'll probably have to savescum for quite a bit, because you have to get Settsu asap, and AI may sometimes actually attack you. In any case, good luck!

Playing on 1.31: Since Ashikaga never attacked me, I did something similar to BlueMP's comment from a few months ago. After taking Settsu just like in the video, fabricate a claim on Kyoto. When you get a claim, make sure you have a decent navy (i had 2 trade ships, 5 galleys, 5 transports) and go over force limit (I got 13k), move all troops onto Settsu. Release all your provinces in Japan as vassals ( I released Hosokawa) and enable scutage. Move your navy out of port into Ryukyu Islands sea. DoW Ashikaga and march into Kyoto when it is empty. If your forces and navy are large enough they will not attack you anywhere and it is a matter of waiting. After a few years, you can peace out just like in the video, got it in 1455. Dont forget to switch government type before peacing out :) Hope this helps!

I surrender (for today) after 5 unsucessefull attempts. I got Settsu 4 times out of 5, cored the province and spawned rennessaince. But Ashikawa always waits untill no Daimyos are at war, declares with 60-70k on me and conquers the province while Ming fights some horde peasants in the west and uses his 80k-100k to stack attrition in the 2 provinces they siege. Not a single time even a single 1k stack of Ming soliders transported over. Also, they wont use my transport ships nor do they join my fleet to destroy the enemies fleet. After 5-10 years of not participating but fighting the hordes, they white peace and leve me utterly destroyed and disapointed. Edit: I managed to get the Lux Stella Event in 1448 and was able to expand into the spice islands. Even with 60AE, the Shogun didnt attack me untill i canceled beeing a tributary and allied Ming, hoping they wouldnt support me in a defensive war. I was able to get Kyoto by December of 1502 and after 2-3 Restarts even managed to spawn Colonialism in Settsu. 3/10 for now, maybe i can get the shogunate by the new year.

Hey everyone please read this if you are struggling with the start of your campaign! it seems that for some people the strategy of Alzabo doesn't work and for some it does. As of 1.30. It feels like Ashikaga is now less likely to attack you and even if they do there is still a good chance they will just sink Mings fleet and proceed to kill you. So I noticed something quirky. As I grew impatient with waiting for Ashikaga I just Yolo attacked them expecting they will just wipe me of the map but to my surprise, they never attacked my Army in Kyoto and as such I was able to slowly gain warscore and eventually peace them out. I have tested it 3 times so far and it worked every time so here is what you have to do: in the beginning, do the same as Alzabo describes with Hosokawa BUT only take settsu and no other province. Now save your Monarch points and wait for the renaissance. Once it appears, force it in Okinawa now you should be able to field about 8-9 troops according to your force limit. You want to have at the very least 10 troops stationed in settsu but I recommend using 12-14 just to be Safe. Then get a claim on Kyoto and initiate the war. Make sure Kyoto is empty and no daimyo is currently walking through your lands. Now simply March into Kyoto and just stand there. Since you are over your Force limit, you will incur a bunch of loans but it will all be worth it in the end. Eventually, the war score will be high enough to take Kyoto, don't forget to switch your government beforehand. I think the reason this works is that the AI doesn't consider the troops of their vassals as their own so it thinks that it is outnumbered and thus it will not initiate a battle. It can also happen that they will come for Okinawa and try to land you should definitely avoid that keep your fleet up and build some galleys if they start to land engage them damage their ships a little and then immediately retreat back into the port of Okinawa. The ai will then cancel their landing and instead repair their fleet. I hope this works for you and have a nice day

I just spent the last 5 hours trying this strat and good lord is it frustrating. While clearly incredibly overpowered getting to the point where you control Japan is so incredibly luck based. First you need Hosokawa to attack someone not too strong but not too weak either, you can't realistically beat them in a fight unless you get an insane general and even then its a tossup, I lost with a 2 fire 4 shock general in a defensive battle over a strait against them so if im doing something wrong I have no idea what it is. If you manage to get their capital that's great, now you actually get to start. If Ming is having rebel problems or decided to fight one of the hordes when you finally get war declared that's a big fat loss since they waste so much time the Shogun and crew stack up 50-60k and can smash Mings smaller stacks as they land, and all that still requires them to even bother landing as they take slow to get going they might just white peace out. I even got the perfect storm, we destroyed their fleets, about half of japan wasnt called into the war due to bad timing from the AI, and they had no rebels/other wars. With this naval superiority and me directing ming where to siege what did they do? They put 30k on my island then white peaced. Is there some kind of way to make the AI do anything half useful cause the Ming AI really seems to like screwing me? I have all the dlc save for Cradle of Civilization, I cant see how not having that is making it so braindead.

This is a really fun strategy when it works but just to reemphasize from the video it is REALLY finnicky. Hope Hosokawa doesn't declare too early but not too late either. Hope your navy can reach Japan and even land troops at all. (because Hosokawa often has a LOT of galleys). Hope you can get on Settsu before a war ally does. Hope your ally doesn't peace out before you can... and that's all for just the first part. Make lots of backup saves. As a weird anecdote, on one of my restarts none of the Daimyos rivaled each other and one month into the game Hosokawa and his allies immediately declared an Independence War on Ashikaga. That was odd.

well. After a few days of tries, I can confirm this strategy is still valid on patch 1.28.30. though it took me more than ten times of restarts. For a lot of times, Ming is just either don't bother landing their troop on Japanese territory, or they just send very little soldiers to be wiped out by the Daimyos. To add on what Alazbo has said, you may consider restarting if Ming is fighting another war (especially against Chihgatai, who's allying Nogai and Kazan) before Ashikaga declares war upon you, otherwise their troops will be dragged in the vast land of central Asia and take forever to come to your front line with high war exhaustion. Also, if almost all Daimyos are participating in the war, you may also consider restart until you get lucky to have less than 40k enemy to deal with. Navy dominance is also vital to you victory, stay close to ming's fleets and be cautious to take combat on your own. Plus I find alliance with Ainu can be helpful as they can attract most of the Daimyos to siege their land thus buy you some time for Mings and your troop to land on Setsu and Kyoto.

I have some questions: First of all, is this war against Ashikaga starting too late? I saw many people starts this wat in early 1450's. Second; is there any way to push Ming to conquest my japan provinces and Kyoto despite of the west island of the japanses archipielago? I would like to finish the war quickly to avoid being more late. Third; is there any way to push Ming to help me blockating most of the japanese troops in Ainu's territory? I usually use my ships to block them once we have naval dominance, but the war takes long enough to get rid because the daimyos create far more ships. Thank you all of you!

While trying for this strategy I accidentally chanced upon another path to become the shogun! The insane thing is that *it doesn't even involve Ming*. It's incredibly lucky, I think, probably way less likely to happen than the one in this video, but this is how I became shogun in my current run: There was a very early independence rebellion against Ashikaga, around 1448. During this rebellion, I could declare a no cb war on Hoosikawa with them having no allies. During my war with Hoosikawa, he lost his independence war, so Ashikaga was reasserted as the overlord, and thus pulled into the war - without any other vassals or allies! Due to the independence war they were both not at full power, and my 5k troops were able to quickly siege Kyoto and full annex Ashikaga, becoming shogun. Thanks for the content!

Iyo isn't honikawa's at start. Possibly meaning that the AE helped you in getting attacked so rapidly. Edit 2: I tried conquering more and less land. Hasn't helped. I also notice I'm not able to ever set my opinion to threaten, only near the start I am able. I guess taking 1 province makes me Ryukyu feared by even ming. Edit 3: Declared bankrupt. that helped :'D

The Japanese daimyos are practically worthless. Once you carry the team and vassalize more of continental Asia they will be far more helpful. Once you get vassals in SE Asia and Manchuria they will start doing the heavy lifting.

Playing on 1.34, Ashikaga is extremely unlikely to ever declare a war against you while you are still protected by Ming, so you have to get strong enough to beat them by yourself. However, you can use the Enforce Peace trick several times to grab more land in Japan. And the more aggressive AI in the current patch means the daimyos eat each other faster, so you will soon enough end up with a smaller number of larger daimyos, which will be disloyal and won't help Ashikaga when you do attack. I was able to take Kyoto by 1468. (Conversely, the daimyos eating each other faster also means someone is likely to blob enough and form Japan, which seems to happen much earlier in most games now. So don't dawdle.)

So I decided to do a run where I take only Settsu to apply what others here recommended. But this time Ashikaga almost immediately declared upon me, my troops were still celebrating the win in Settsu ;) and I didnt even have lowered army maintenance cause they were still recovering. But war was really expensive. With my initial stack being wiped and Ming AI being super stupid I went way over limit to a 18k stack to work my own way into Kyoto which resulted in becoming bankrupt. Got Shogun in 1457 tho. But by the time things were up and running again two vassals got relatively large and disloyal. I've tried this a bunch on 1.33. Taking land in japan, ideally settsu from hosokawa, is doable. However ashikaga will never declare on you while you are tributary. If you want to become shogun anyway, you will have to take it offensively. Taking land in japan is probably still good to do before you build your power base in phillipines/manchuria/malaya. Edit: If you can get a decent powerbase going and maximally improve relations with ming, you should be able to ally them even without the flip to friendly. By 1500 you might be able to call them in offensively. Just in time to get shogun before they collapse.

Seems like Ming will not transfer the occupation of Kyoto to the player, even if it's marked as vital interest (or at least it happened to me), so be sure to move your army there first so the siege is led by you. Otherwise you won't be able to take it in the war. Edit: Also, if you want to convert to Shinto, you can just annex the daimyo holding Ise. As long as you're in pagan religion group (which animism is), this will trigger an event that allows you to convert without breaking to rebels. Holding Ise also grants minor bonuses.

1.30.2 Ashikaga just doesn't attack you :( edit: they attacked, Ming stacked 32 units on the island of So and peaced out. Killing hosokawa was the easiest part of this.

@@AlzaboHD It was Afghanistan. It exploded before I completely conquered that cursed yellow Vijayanagar. 😡 BTW, I tried your guide. It's easier said than done! I'm currently in my 10th+ try since a certain Hosokawa just don't want to declare war on anyone in 10years. Heck, I twice even waited 15 and 20 years and they still didn't declare war. 🤬 The RNG gods are not smiling at me right now. 😢

After about 15 saves I was able to both conquer setsu and get ming to capture Kyoto, and what do they do? THEY OCCUPY IT, even though I have a claim! All that work and I can't even peace deal it off their hands...

That happened to me. It's incredibly frustrating - I know exactly how you feel. Did you make a backup save file to fall back to? I highly recommend making them, at least for difficult strats like this
@izangomso
@izangomso 5 лет назад
set kyoto as vital importance? as long as ming doesn't set it as vial interest ming should give you the occupation. or just ensure ming puts his stacks on kyoto after you start the seige

You can also build up a power base and come back for Kyoto later. As long as Japan hasn't formed you can still take the Shogunate. I did this strategy a few weeks ago and it works really well. It takes a little bit longer, but is super reliable and doesn't require any no-CBs. The only problem that I had was that once I had all of Asia and Africa under me as Daimyo my computer would crash every 30 minutes or so. I only have about half of Europe left to conquer at 1730, so I'll probably go back and finish the campaign eventually. The slowdown cannot be understated though. Playing late-game on what is essentially slower than speed 1 is absolute cancer. It's really the only reason I have picked the campaign back up. One great thing to note about this strategy that I didn't hear mentioned is that you aren't really locked into any particular idea set. You can really take any combo and it won't impact your ability to get the achievement in any meaningful way. I even stayed animist without any difficulty. The Shogunate is super OP.

Good video although lacking on some fronts, Really enjoyed the comments in the comment section. People really know how to elaborate and complete the delivery for the strategy, and also address common problems It's amazing to see that this (overall) stratrgy still works, although knowing the additional workarounds is always fun (just in case)

I'm not too sure why, but when I annex kyoto it only makes me the shogun in name, and none of the daimyos become my vassals. It also gives me an "annex daimyo" cassus belli against a couple of the daimyos
