Great video. I have ditched my Ring doorbell and installed the wired Eufy one instead. So much easier than the Ring. The picture quality is about the same but much less lag time. And I didn't need the extender. Thanks for your help.
I wonder if you could reuse the wire which already comes from the existing door bell chime to the door bell button. Im this case you would just connect the end of the power transformer (two fork wires which you connected to door bell frame) to the wiring which leads from existing power transformer to bell? Wiring Is Already there!?!?
Phillip thank you for great review, I was wondering whether this work with Googlehome pod or alexa homepod with live video once someone ring from outside. Thank you
Great video, I really enjoyed the it even though some parts were totally irrelevant to me. Like Timmy Mallets meets Peep Show 😂 I have an already wired in old fashioned one where it vibrates a metal round bell type of thing. I assume with this I'd need a transformer of some sort ?
It records for some time after an event, determined by how much further movement there is. Most of the clips are around 30s or 1m, but they seem to range from 15s to 5m
FYI, I tried what you proposed in the beginning - connected the 230V wires directly to the transformer that came with the doorbell, and connected the transformer's 19V output wires to the doorbell wires, and it worked. A bit loose attachment but works well. Bought a junction box as there wasn't enough space in my existing chime.
I had never thought of mounting it to the middle of the door, interesting, how do you find it with the wire dangling out of the back? Has it ever got caught in the door?
It's actually really good! Great perspective, never caught. Probably want to find a way to make it look less unsightly on the inside; at some point I'll probably add some cushion panelling 😀
Hi, great informative video. But I was wondering if you could advise - in the notifications bit in the app, it doesn't say push notifications, just notifications and doesn't give me ay option but to tick or untick the box. This you wouldn't think would be a problem but I appear to be restricted to the notifications I receive and cannot no matter what I do change it - so at the moment I can receive 1 motion notification a day and 2 doorbell notifications in a week! This obviously renders the doorbell useless really :( I have also noticed that the camera permission is only allowed for when the app is in use - it needs to be "allowed all the time" again, no matter where I look in the app or in phone settings I cannot change this. I think this is the issue, if I could change that permission then I'm sure it would resolve the problem. The firmware I am using is v4.2.1_1280(EU). Are you able to offer any advice on how I can sort this out? I am flummoxed! TIA, Lisa.
This video is brilliant thank you. With the storage where it shows on yours 4gb and you say it will roll back. Is this based on local storage via sd card?
Hi! Great video. I was wondering if you could please help me understand how the continuous recording works? Can you simply tell the unit to keep recording 24/7 and replace old videos or is it not quite like that? In addition, how can we extract recorded videos? Is there a way to do this other than the app?
Nice video. I noticed the output of your plug in transformer is 19V DC. However, the Eufy website says this unit is compatible with existing doorbell wiring using a transformer with 16-24V AC output. Do you know if the power supply requirements for this unit have changed since you bought yours? I believe that was only a year ago?
I'm afraid I don't know, sorry... but current is the important factor for how much power the wires can cope with. The normal bell wires should be ok with 1 amp, and this adaptor only outputs 0.6A.
Thanks for the amazing video! I’m very new to electrics/circuits. Im currently in a new built in the UK and want to replace My current traditional doorbell. I have a EUFY 2k battery doorbell that I’m planning on install. Can I not just replace the doorbell with the EUFY, install it and connect the 2 wires on the back of the-device. Should it not just work straight away? I would expect 1) my old mechanical chime to work 2) the device would be charging using those wires - so I would never have to recharge the batteries. Have I oversimplified this? Why would I need a transformer etc. would really appreciate your view on this.
If you take a look at the existing chime unit you'll likely see a transformer already inside. It may not be labelled but it's almost always 5V DC. I'm not sure what the voltage of the battery powered doorbell is, but it would have to match. The bell wires are also only capable of carrying a very low current; it may be that the battery doorbell also requires more current than is available. And finally, I'm not sure if the battery doorbell is capable of receiving power and using it at the same time, or if it only works when running from batteries.
Excellent video! I've just bought one of these this black Friday for £110. I'm planning on wiring it in using my existing wiring, so need to buy the correct transformer. After watching your video I'm glad I bought it! Top quality mate! You defo deserve more recognition for this! P.s. what camera do you use to record? The quality is amazing!
Hey mate I know it’s not about this video but it’s kind of urgent, we had a brake in last month and my eufy camara recorded it, the police have only just contacted us and we’re trying to hand over this footage however on my eufy all I can get is footage from 8 days ago. Would really appreciate some help
Hey, so sorry to hear this! I only have experience with the doorbell stuff; the wired doorbell records direct to itself, and when it's full it rolls over and deletes the oldest clips. The battery doorbell and indoor cameras I believe write to the eufy base station, but that too will overwrite old clips when it gets full. I think this might mean the clips are gone 😔
nice review! wondering if know whats the chime max range? is it Bluetooth, right? It worries me since my front gate (sidewalk) is where the doorbell will reside. From there to the actual chime plug there is going to be around a 15meters distance, with some obstacles in-between.
Hi Phillip Great video. I am looking at purchasing the Eufy Video Doorbell but was stuck between wired or wireless version. I believe the wireless version can also be wired and has the added benefit of recordings being stored on a device inside the house as opposed to being stored on the actual doorbell. What are the main differences between the two and which one is better? I have an existing old wired doorbell. Would I need a new transformer? Sorry. This is all new to me and was wondering if it's something I can easily do myself. Also, I think I read somewhere that these doorbells are quite easy to remove from the door. In that case what use would the wired version be where the recordings are stored on the actual doorbell? Thnaks
Hey! The main benefits of the wired one are the pre-event record, and not having to replace batteries! The required plug comes in the box. The videos are only recorded to the bell itself, so you're right if someone ripped it off you'd be a bit lost but I suspect that'd be rare - you'd need a security screwdriver / prybar but your face would already appear as a notification on my phone 😀
Hi, so 2 months later how is the doorbell going? Thinking of getting this version but just wondered if has been any problems since using it for the last 2 months? Thanks
I looked at it but decided I didn't want to have to charge it every few months. The wired version also has a 3 second pre-record which the battery version lacks which also made me go wired instead.
@@PhillipParr Yes but the battery version is constantly powered from your bell wires... and the existing chime works in your house. Advantage is for you and me is that no extra holes to be drilled you can simply mount on the existing button space on your house. Also to adjust the angle of the mounting see this item which Ive ordered from the USA (its just a neater option IMO to use the existing wiring/transformer etc and you dont have to lose a mains socket to a new chime in the house). Quality item by the looks of things:- wasserstein-home.com/products/wasserstein-30-to-55-horizontal-wedge-wall-mount-compatible-with-eufy-security-video-doorbell-wired-version-eufy-security-video-doorbell-battery-version?fbclid=IwAR36AuPD2Rux10wdQKjmJsO0XUo1RWsjzHMqdQ8Bu7l7CstZBBFjGxNNlH4
Sorry if I missed this part of the video. But why didn't you just install the Eufy doorbell in place of your old one. You could have used the existing doorbell cables. Then you wouldn't need to tack a cable around the inside of your door.
The main reason is because the placement of the original doorbell would severely restrict the view of the camera, but also - nobody ever pressed it! Once you walk up the path it's pretty much hidden by the side pillar, so nobody ever saw it. Mounting it on the door solved that problem. If that pillar hadn't been there, and I completely changed the indoor part of the doorbell with a separate transformer than it would've worked :)
@@PhillipParr Fair enough, that makes sense. The only thing I don't like about installing video doorbells onto the front of a door is the fact that once you open the door you no longer capture the visitor. But if that's you're only option it's better than nothing. Do you have any plans for some new videos? I just stumbled across your channel and I really like your style of videos :)
@@ACAIDC You're right, it's not ideal although on the plus side if anyone ever attacks it'll be on camera? :') And yes - I'm planning on pumping out many videos of varying content and quality over the next few months; watch this space!
@@PhillipParr I was pulling everyone's leg my friend.... my idea of humour. 😄 Great vid to be fair. I've been researching the Eufy brand and it seems to be highly regarded. All the best..... Steve.
It will depend on how many clips you're getting. If you have it on to log faces of everyone that passes (as I've left mine) then mine is making about 10 - 20 recordings a day, and that cycles the space in about 13 days. So I reckon in total it must be around 200 clips. If you're only logging bell pushes then unless you're running a bed and breakfast it'll likely last months 😁
Excellent review Phil, I have been using the Eufy battery doorbell which I have powered with a separate power unit for a few months now to avoid having to recharge, and I’ve been pleased with the results so far, but one thing I miss is the 3 second pre-record which you get with the wired version. I’ve missed a few events purely because of the lack of pre-record, so I reckon I may well change to the wired version as I was so impressed with it in your review.
Glad it helped - that pre-record is good. Showed me recently that the Hermes guy approached from one direction but disappeared in another - so even though I didn't get a card I went to check by my bins and voila - package!
