@@richardmanqele2878 because there are dynamics, both historical and symbolically. The perception an "outsider" had may very well be one that has been repackaged and dare I say cleansed. It's not that one cannot draw rational and unbias comclusions it's just that there are some things especially within RSA that supercede the he say she say qouta.

Yeah he called him a hero. It doesn't mean he was a hero to the whole world, but maybe to his town he was. I'm not making any judgements, but I know for a fact that in small towns people are more integrated than in the cities. They know each other and support one another. They grow their own food and nurture the land. There's no white-collar jobs, but no one starves because they grow their own food. Unlike in urban areas and cities, where people live in depressing poverty and hardship, while corrupt politicians loot, steal and enrich and enrich themselves...maybe that's why that dude considers Eugene a hero. Maybe as residents of the town, they had a good relationship which the media will never portray.
@@ngelzntsizi8887 You may be right about why the guy called him that. I was the person shooting this scene and the whole interaction was astoundingly relaxed and good natured. I could only put it down to the fact that ET had just spent three years in prison, convicted for assault, would you believe, of a petrol station attendant! We interviewed him at the same time that this scene was shot and it became apparent that he had learned a lesson or two in jail. The closest friend he made while inside was a man of colour and he spoke highly of this man throughout the interview. Perhaps this had become common knowledge in Ventersdorp, or perhaps ET had made some attempt to make amends? It would be interesting to find out.

But we learn and correct ourselves. Humans are not perfect creatures. The white man was Eugene Terre'Blanche. He was a founder and the leader of the AWB in South Africa in the 80's and 90s, when apartheid was ending. The AWB was a Nazi-stylized party that was opposed to ending apartheid and wanted to create a whites-only state in South Africa. At one point in the talks between the National Party and the ANC, he led a group of AWB members that stormed the building in which the talks were taking place. Pretty wild stuff - check out some of his speeches, he was definitely and interesting character.

I don't understand why people think he was so bad. Is it bad for a culture to want their own place to live? Even the different tribes in Africa had and some still have their own places. Multiculturalism is forced on us all. I'm not a boer by the way. I'm English.
