My violin teacher, Prof. Giannino Carpi, was a student of Ysaÿe. Incredible what he told/teached me! Vieuxtemps concertos just unbelievable(I studied no. 4 and 5 with him). Anyway he was my very best teacher. Ysaÿe was a student of Vieuxtemps. Thank you so much for this rare recording!
Ysaye was a fine conductor too. His records with the Cincinnati SO (Columbia, circa 1920) are among the most successful orchestral recordings of the acoustic period, with (as one might expect) a real warmth in the string tone.
He iz amazing. And now he has a second life. Edward Grach and his pupils now plais Wienyawsky ? and it" exellent.I like very much Yakub Unec playing Wienyawsky, And Lev Solodovnikov is very interesting in Wienyawski.
I know this piece very well.... I have played it...and THE REAL SPEED IS UNCOMPARABLY SLOWER!!! I don't think that suck an immense violinist such as Ysaye would have played it so fast, just to prove that he could. the piece is a dance, not a fuga. I am sad that I really would have enjoyed listening the piece at the real speed, because there are many details that at this speed are hard to detect...
Cóż... żeby grać mazurki trzeba siłą rzeczy mieć coś z Polski, znać przynajmniej ten polski dryg. Tutaj mi brakuje tej chwiejności mazurka. Gdyby było trochę wolniej...
