Disclaimer: I am recording these to model for a student of mine who is auditioning for the TMEA All-State Bands 2023 and thought that these could also help others as well as bring in more private students. This is my personal interpretation of these excerpts and what I think sounds best. Ultimately, play them how you want!
I am aware that on the TMEA website, this etude is instructed to be played as all unmarked quarter notes are stacatto but personally I disagree, as the section is marked dolce and in terms of musical structure, this makes the most sense to me. I tell my students that it’s their decision to make if they want to follow the instructions and potentially get into TMEA or go with what I think makes the most musical sense. Both are valid!
