by this you mean the secretive relationship she still has with nate? I also think it symbolizes her mental state getting worse because she's no longer a "good" person.
Honestly, the flowers made me think of the tragic character of Ophelia in Hamlet. She also didn't know her worth without Hamlet, and tragically died drowning herself in the river. She also wore flowers in her hair. And Cassie has definitely been acting like Ophelia lately, like somehow Nate is her "Hamlet".
This scene signified to me that we are about to see some MEGA growth in Cassie’s character. The mirror to me signified a major internal shift for her. She may be crying but she sees her worth and realizes how her insecurities have been causing chaos around her and she’s about to flourish in her growth. Hence the flowers as well. The vanity was also dark, where everything external she has been so fixated on controlling was sitting. Including the flowers sitting on the actual vanity itself. She doesn’t need Nate, or anyone else’s flowers anymore. I don’t know, maybe I’m the only one who looked at this scene so much more deeply when it could just be for aesthetics. I also didn’t watch the part where Sam explains everything either. But the creative in me hopes that is the outcome for her🙏🏼
The director said it was inspired by the flowers placed in Catholic Mexican altars for saints & that it symbolizes things hidden & seen. Maddy gets flowers in public & Cassie gets them in private, which she hates.
They might represent a sense of wanting to be loved, especially in Cassie’s case. Thus, her own little personal bubble bombarded with beautiful flowers.
