Eurasian bullfinch when ringing.
The Eurasian Bullfinch is a slightly larger and chunky songbird than a sparrow. The male has a red and the female has a gray-brown chest. Both sexes have a black head, a gray back and a white stripe on the wings. It is a relatively common bird in Central Europe. As a typical seed-eating bird, it has a short strong beak. The seeds feed even the young, who sometimes variegate the food of small insects such as aphids. Its food changes with the seasons from budding buds of trees in spring, through seeds of trees, bushes and grasses in summer and autumn. During this period, his food also consists of small berries such as blueberries, blackberries or rowan berries and the like.
In winter, it bites the buds of birch and ash. It builds its nest mostly in coniferous trees, sometimes in bushes. The females sit on the eggs for about two weeks and the chicks then feed on the nest both parents for another 14 days.
It occurs throughout Europe and most of Asia. Its population is stable. Only some individuals from the northern regions of Europe migrate to the south.
