First timer here. Followed your directions and it turned out looking like a taxidermy job. Great video, great instructions, first class results! All i can say is Thank You!
Y'all want to take as much tissue off the skull as possible before the boil that means eyes and cheek meat. It only takes about 30 mins of boiling that way and pressure washer. I always change my water to do the peroxide and use 40 volume hair developer in a 50/50 mix. Bring it to a boil then shut the heat off and leave it for 10 mins and it's done. This was a great DIY video I just like to give some pointers to help people out as well. 👍
Great video, gentlemen. Used it last year on my 8-pointer, and I’ve done both my daughter’s first and second deer. Excellent instruction without all the bull crap filler. Thank you very much!
Damn, I learned something. Popping the ear buds and the shrink wrap. I was keeping the head elevated to prevent discoloration. Great video guys, thanks.
In addition...if you'd like a desk-top euro mount (or to sit on a shelf). Do the bottom jaw as well. If you flip the bottom jaw over, it makes a perfect stand for the skull.
Excellent video. I did a euro a few years ago and wish I had had this video as a guide then. I watched your video while waiting on my water to start boiling and currently have my skull boiling. Cant wait to see the final results
Update: My euro mount turned out great. I’ve been proud to show this skull off. The dawn in the boiling process was new to me. Also, the plastic wrap saved the natural color in my bases. I love the results. Thanks again
I just got my first ever buck last Friday. I watched a couple different videos on how to euro mount, but this one is by far my favorite. Thanks for uploading such a great, informative video!
I watched a bunch of other euro mount videos before this one and kept watching them because I couldn’t find the information I needed. I should have just started with this one! Awesome video and great info. Skull is in the water now, can’t wait to finish it up.
Thank for the video. My 11 year old daughter and I used this to help us do her ten point and her friends four point. She did all the skinning on the four point. Now she thinks she is a pro. God bless y’all and happy hunting. 🙏🏽✝️🙏🏽
Fantastic video. Thank you for putting out such an informative tutorial. The segment at the end talking about prepping the skull for boiling was very much appreciated. About to do my first euro and I’m sure I’ll be watching this video a few times over!
Question…I boiled and pressures washed my skull. I still have quite a bit of cartilage attached to the bone, around the eyes and hard to reach places, etc. Do I need to boil again to remove this?
@@dmomo20 yes 50/50 mix of water and 40 volume peroxide/developer bring to a hard boil shut it down pressure wash Make sure u wrap antlers tight with plastic wrap first
Awesome video my boys just killed a 8 Pointer White Tail buck and we’ll be doing a European Mount the video is so helpful appreciate so much thanks and god bless y’all
Congratulations to your son on his buck! We certainly appreciate you watching our video/channel. Be sure to check out our apparel and gear at N1outdoors.com!
Used this method this past weekend on a little 8p I shot during rifle opener. Turned out fantastic! Taxidermy quality. Wish I could post a picture here.
So glad to hear that! You can email us a picture to N1outdoors @ N1outdoors.com. We'd love to see it! Thank you for watching! Be sure to check out our merch at N1outdoors.com/products !
I’m fixing to do my first one for a boy I took hunting and he killed his first deer.. A five pointer.. My nephew was going to do it and he had about 10 hanging in the barn to do.. I went and got it today and it stunk bad.. He lets bug’s eat most of it.. If I had known I’d just took and did it like in the video..
Great video, I use a powersprayer rather than a knife to clean after boiling, but I do have a question. How long do you let it bleach in the peroxide solution?
Thank you very much for the very helpful tips. Just completed my very first DIY Euro Skull mount and it came out exceptionally well. Wish I could post a picture here, but not sure how.
When you said you were finished with the bleaching, you didn’t let us know how long that part of the process took. Also I’ve used brown shoe polish on the antlers and it worked really well
A note about the first steps being at the end of the end of the video would be helpful 😆(for a beginner) Thank you for the great tutorial otherwise 🏔️🤙🏽
@@jaywethington1934 Are you trying to save the ear buds? They are much easier to remove when right out of the boiling water. Sun drying should be ok. Might possibly cause some yellowing.
@@N1outdoors haven't decided if I need to put them back in or not. They came out in 1 piece so I saved them and hit them with the pressure washer. I actually put the skull and bottom jaw bones in the garage to dry. I sent the finished pics to your Instagram messenger. Thank you for the video and tips. I appreciate it
This is interesting in a good way. I set the skull under a plastic tote and let the bugs eat, but I use bleach water carefully and I'm going for peroxide.
I remove as much meat as possible and use a pressure washer( cheap harbor freight electric) to get the brain out before the boil. It doesn't hurt to spray the sinus cavity out before as well to get excess blood out. I also use peroxide in my water when I boil so it penetrates deep into the bone. Once boiled I hit it with the pressure washer again. Next I place in a small storage container and fill almost to the burr with peroxide. I use a paper towel to cover the cap as it will draw up the peroxide and bleach the cap as well. I let soak 12-24 hrs. Then place in direct sunlight. DO NOT PLACE ON PAINTED SURFACES TO DRY! It will blister the paint on your truck. If you bleach your antlers you can also use wet coffee grounds to add color back to them.
One of the best videos I have seen on RU-vid. I have used the peroxide paste in the past, but am wanting to submerge the head in a peroxide solution this time. However, I did not hear you say how long you simmered the head in the peroxide solution. I have heard some say just a few minutes and others say an hour. Please advise. Thanks.
There is no set amount of time. Here he was using 3% peroxide which is weaker but most taxidermists use 40 volume 12%. Just take it out when you think it's white enough, peroxide is really quite safe on the bone it won't damage it like bleach. Also remember that when the skull dries it will look whiter than when it is wet. Good luck
How long did you boil the skull in the peroxide boil after you took all the flesh off?? Thanks for the video, I’m in the process of doing this with 2 bucks I killed last week. I appreciate this!! Thanks!
Hey I ran 2 Qts hydrogen peroxide on low simmer (160-180 degrees) for 30 min, then took out the skull. It was like nothing ever happened. Still dark featured skull like it was just done boiling hide and flesh off. Did I do something wrong?
Found a dead head that I want to euro mount do I have to do the bleaching part the second boil? I wouldn't m8nd keeping the color from it. Just don't know if it benefits in anything else
Hello I performed these steps but I did do an older head that someone had outside for a long while and it’s stained yellow. Any ideas on how I can stain it white?
I’ve got one my nephew was going to do so he has had it hanging in the barn for a month.. I went and got it today and it stinks bad.. I should have boiled it from the get go.. It’s probably really going to stink when I go to boil it..
@@N1outdoors I will and thanks for the video.. I’ve killed a many deer but just never done a euro mount myself.. I learned a great deal from the video.. Fixing to do some jerky this coming week as well.. Hope to do some tanning on a few next year for the first time as well..Great video and thanks..
@@N1outdoors One question, after I clean all the Hyde and tissue off the skull with my knife and if theres still some tissue on therr i cant get, i usually put the skull in boiling water for 2 to 3 boiling sessions for 20-30 minutes a session. Then I take the skull out and power wash the skull until all the tissue is off. If there's still more tissue on there I boil it in water for the 1st session for 20 minutes , take it out and power wash it. Then if there's more on there I'll boil it some more for the 2nd session and take it out and power wash it again. I keep doing this 2 maybe 3 times until all the tissue is off. Then after that I'm following the same procedure as you are in this video by putting the skull in boiling water and hydrogen peroxide and soap and boiling it for 1 hr. My question is do you think I am doing too much boiling when im cleaning the tissue off? I heard too much boiling would ruin the skull. Thanks.
@@bobbydenezza7795 If there is still connective tissue to glue the bones back together once it dries it’s ok. Too much boiling will remove the glue the skull needs to stay intact.
Thank you for your question in our apologies for failing to answer that part.In the video, it’s 16 qt... You can use a larger pot, but only fill it full enough to cover the skull to the base of the antlers
