I owned a Lancia Y elefantino rosso from 1999. Luckily I had no accident, this looks quite bad. But I have to say the suspension and driving behaviour were great for such a small car.
why doesn't Euroncap have any crash tests of the 2nd Generation of Lancia Ypsilon? It only has that devastating 2-star rating of 2000... Where can I learn about its safety if I need to purchase one?
@PoulChuck they use same structure as the Grande punto or the Alfa MiTo, if you see those you have the idea of the New lancia Ypsilon, Look at that footage
all'epoca erano tutte così, anzi la maggior parte molto peggio: la Y aveva il pianale della prima Punto del 1993, ma c'erano concorrenti che avendo origini ben più remote (tipo la Rover 100) o una progettazione meno attenta alla sicurezza inevitabilmente ottenevano risultati terrificanti. Le cose sono iniziate a migliorare seriamente verso il 2004-2005, quando tutti i produttori di auto hanno reimpostato completamente i pianali (e contestualmente sono tutti aumentati di stazza a parte la Yaris)

In the first Lancia Y - like every 90s 3 door hatchback with A/C optional - the rear window between B and C pillars was held in place by two hinges and a compass hook that allow it to open toward outside. The crash caused the hook to rip, so the glass dissipated the energy passing through it simply by swinging like a flag without breaking. the flexibility of that glass is surprising
Io per delle collisioni contro il muro a 10 km/h, mi sono ritrovato con dei danni che sembrano da un urto contro il muro a 60 km/h! Tant'è vero che io rimanevo fermo nell'auto senza alcun danno fisico e sentivo che l'auto si accartocciava con nulla!
Più che Lancia, criticherei Fiat, dato che la Y è imparentata con la Punto (rispetto alla quale si comporta un po' meglio) e la Ypsilon attuale è parente alla precedente Panda (anche qui, ha un migliore comportamento rispetto all'altra)
