Imagine if lebron played for turks or serbs or Greek team. He would be crying out loud to go home. And that were the environment where luka grew up. So an intimidation from other team fans were nothing compare to he used to saw
America: “oh hey thats darude sandstorm, lets wave our hands in the air” Eastern Europe: “their team is from Albania. We’re from Serbia. We don’t like each other so we’re going to chant about killing Albanians non-stop the entire game” The Balkan states are a different realm of reality.
Kinda healthy way. Cheers from Serbia and remember don't kick rivals when they are on the ground. Respect the rules. Only when they are standing up and you can use your belt or a beer bottle or whatever punch with your baby but never while they are on the ground. Peace and love from Serbia.
Thank God that changed. We found a way where our fellow Europeans can bring out their tribal side , even though here and there there can be found some hooligans who can destroy the whole atmosphere , but all in all we did find a better way to go into "war" without actually going to war xD
I'm English and I think most sports in europe are complete waste of time/space. The TV mostly only shows soccer and once in a blue moon other sports. We use to be able to watch decent sport (NBA, NHL, NFL and the baseball one) but now all we get is crap from europe.
@@midknight2K surely can't have grown up in the uk or have strong connections to the uk if you call football soccer, only like american sports and in your other comment referred to something as a slow 'ass' game (never seen or heard a british person use the word ass like that)?
Lots of mainland European football clubs also have basketball sides, so the ultras who go to football will also support the basketball side. It often means basketball crowds can be just as mental as we see at football! It's almost a pity we don't have a culture of basketball in the UK, because I would definitely go and watch if crowds were like this.
A few rugby clubs that are also multisport clubs have basketball teams, Saracens, Wasps and Bristol (football as Bristol city, rugby and basketball- as bristol flyers) for instance, because they are teams linked from the old sports club system.
Basketball is really not very popular in the UK. It seemed to be getting quite popular in the 90s, when teams like Sheffield Sharks were playing their games at the Sheffield Arena and getting big crowds. They now play in an arena where the maximum capacity is 1000 people. European basketball major countries are mostly in southern Europe - Spain, Italy, Greece, Serbia and Turkey, And Lithuania where it is the most popular sport, more popular than soccer.
Check out NBA-players, who talk about their experiences playing in Euroleague. It is pretty amazing. Playing in Greece, Serbia, Turkey, Spain, Italy and so on, is not only to practise and play well. It is also totally mental, to play a game away. No sugarcoating at all, and they all have to accept it. It is a war. Cheers from Italy!
Just finished watching all 5 parts. That was INSANE. A tiny part makes me wanna go see a game, even tho I don't understand or even care about basketball 😃 The European in me hears the calling...
Stopping the game with confetti is a thing orginised by ultras, club can’t ask for that because they would be fined. And ultras throw confetti to show that no one except they are the one who controlls the game.
youre an ignorant european... a lot of people in europe just want to go to the stadium to experience the match itself without jumping and screaming around. the people screaming and cheering around are mostly hooligans... i hate the european arrogance.. ''sports isnt a church picnic'' ''it is war without the guns''... blablabla hahahaha.... keep in mind that the USA is a very young country and europe is 1000 and 1000 of years old! you just cant compare these 2 continents/countrys. 2 completely different CULTURES! just check out the college sports in the USA and you will see crowds of people cheering and chanting and screaming and singing and YES, all without music as well! theyre making noise without any music in the backround playing..
@@wildchild3862 You do realize all we maniacs join together under ONE banner when it's National Team. Most of hardcore supporters just have permanent ban in International games(the place you suppost to play your national anthem)
European basketball crowds are like a cross between Braveheart and an inner city riot. US basketball crowds are like a cross between High School Musical and The Nuremburg Rally.
Quite sure anyone outside Scotland would take offense to the Braveheart-thing, inner city riot sure but that's just Europe being Europe. Every city/township have their own large battle, local hero or something else they will identify with XD
In america, you need announcers and music to hype people up. In europe, there are no announcers. There is no music. You need to calm people down, not hype them up lol
The difference between pastime and passion. In American basketball, invented by a Canadian PE teacher on a US school, they play so many games, you don't care they lose a third of their games. After a loss a European fan loses appetite, has trouble sleeping and reacts like a bastard to the surroundings. For a week, or at least till the next game. One other big difference, in America there are no away-fans. European fans will travel to the ends of the earth to see their team play.
Fam I remember when Arsenal were going thru a rough patch. Had me up at 2am on a skl night questioning everything, imagining how far technology is gonna go in the future and how scary it is etc
I'll say it again and again. Next time some MORON "analyst" says "Luca Doncic cannot handle pressure", just remember that video and that Doncic was champion and MVP of Euroleague against those teams and those crowds even though he was a TEENAGER. Compared to that he must find NBA to be a very *relaxing* experience :P
I don't get the anthem singing at every game . It's not the U.S.A playing. Its what we would call a club game in Europe, anthem only played when representing your country. As usual Europe wins lol
@@TheDarkstormy mate you clearly have absolutely no idea about the Nordic countries😂 especially Norway, they don't have minimum wage ffs😂 they're capitalist af
There are videos where basketball players who played in Europe share stories, also one really funny clip where a players sister is sitting on the bench with him looking around absolutely terrified at the several thousand half naked screaming Eastern Europeans, lol. You should whatch some of those :)
The thing is: for americans sports is a family entertainment while in other countries it's not just a entertainment more like a passion (or even a "religion"). That's why is so much different.
@@necroforce4324 Oh, we from the Balkans also sing shit about our government in the chants even more then the "hatred" between nations that you talk about
@@necroforce4324 Excuse me your Royal Kindness , but how you define "primitivism". For me you and your "divine" friends like,British,German,French, Dutch,Spanish,Porugese and so on are ultimate primitives. In your everlasting greed for wealth and power, you have killed millions and millions of us "primitives" all around the world.Your "freedom" and "democracy" usually is enforced in countries rich with oil, gold, minerals. Do you think people around the world are stupid that much? You are so full of yourselves ,it's almost unbelievable.
@@necroforce4324 That's not correct. There are a few countries in Europe that have a big problem with far right nationalistic fans, but most ultra groups are actually left leaning and pretty diverse. Race, skin color, ethnicity, nationality, religion,... doesn't matter, what matters is the love and passion for the club. You support the same team as me and we're basically brothers. And most chants are actually about pushing your own team and expressing your love and passion for the team. Sure, each team has their rivals and there are hate chants against those, but except for rivalry games, there usually isn't much hatred expressed towards the opponents.
@@arnau9046 civil war is also not the most right description of what happened... but yeah there was the famous football match where one of our croatian players kicked a police officer or how they were called the militia back in the day.
@@arnau9046 When it comes to Croatia it is called Homeland war (domovinski rat in croatian). Civil war as far as I know is between two or maybe even more sides in one country like in the US between the North and the South. In our case it was a war between different countries. Croatia was still Croatia even in Yugoslavia, as well as Serbia was Serbia and Macedonia was Macedonia, etc. Also Croatia was already independent when we got attacked by Serbia. The thing that started in the stadium was kind of the beginning of the fall of everything, like the sign that shit is going down soon.
"Which is funny, because it is a... American sport." - invented by a Canadian, while living in Massachusetts. Still that makes it infinitely more "American" than Baseball (or Apple Pie). Okay, that's the obligatory good natured dig out of the way. Thanks for another great video to watch guys.
If I remember right Canada is the largest country in America. (USA is the second, Brazil the third) So everything from Canada, Peru, Argentina etc. is American.
@@laxyyorma7016 Let's not pretend that when Daniel, or anybody says "American" they are referring the continent. But congratulations on taking what was a light hearted comment, poking fun at how many things people refer to as being American (as in the USA) in origin, and trying to turn it into an opportunity to play "I think I'm smarter than you".
@@damionlee7658 We would never allow one European nation to steal the word European and start to call only themselves as European and leave other European nations out. But we live in freedom.
@@laxyyorma7016 not sure why you felt the need to make your "Live in Freedom" comment about European countries. The degree of freedom any of us have is marginal. You are free to act totally within the confines of your country's legal system and social rules, which really amounts to no freedom whatsoever. Now it is very well understood within what context the word American was used in the video, and your suggestion that the use of European is in any way relevant to the use of American is ridiculous. There is no country in Europe called Europe, so your false equivalence holds no water. How about we look to the continent of Australia instead... A continent and country that share a name, and has the same usage of that shared name as we see in the USA. If somebody refers to something being an Australian invention, they are referring to the country of Australia, not either of the other two countries within the continent of Australia. Just as if somebody refers to an American invention, they mean the country of The United States of America. Next time you want to troll somebody, at least come up with an argument with some value. You attempt here was pathetic.
@@damionlee7658 The word America or American belongs to every American country. It'd funny if they all started to use only America instead of their own name. (what a mess) If there was something I'd like to give to USA, that would be an adjective. If there were more independent countries in Australia, they all would use their own name, like Victoria, Queensland, Tasmania etc. One Australian country could not nick name of the continent to themselves. In Africa there are at least two countries with word Africa. The Republic of South Africa and Republique centrafricaine. Neither of these two countries call themselves only Africa and speak arrogantly like the other African countries would be little less African. In Europe we have European Union (EU), but we don't say or think that countries outside the EU (like Norway, Russia, Swizerland etc) would be less Europeans than we inside the EU. Europe is our continent and the name belongs to all Europeans. P. S. This was not an angry writing, I wish very nice autumn to You.

I am still laughing... This is Europe! We don't stuff our mouths with popcorn and chicken wings.. We don't do kiss cams and "defence"defence" like clowns. We push our team and bring terror to the oponents!
In Europe the first basketball federation was founded in 1932 and the first European Championship was in 1935, but for example in Romania, basketball has been played since 1920.
the saddest thing in america i find is that the blocks where the people are activ and then the other blocks are COMPLETLY SILENT/non moving ... not a single one is doing anything xD that makes the ones doing stuff who are all dressed up look like actors and the normal people not giving a shit xD
It’s incredible to see those flares and confetti especially when here in the UK 🇬🇧 on one afternoon in 1985 we witnessed one of the darkest days in British sport when fire broke out at the Bradford City stadium which had been in a state of disrepair for decades, it is even more sobering that just one year before a safety report carried out by local authorities had warned of the potential for such a disaster. The section where the fire broke out got completely destroyed in just 4 minutes. It claimed 56 souls and injured 265+. This video tells of that day: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N_OBPtdSyXg.html
I remember this awful tragedy it took what probably a lit cigarette. The flares going off was insane another fire waiting to happen have they no idea the danger they put them selves in
Before you move to the UK (or Europe), you need to increase your tolerance for strong ale and Scottish Whisky. Then get your arses over for Welsh Rugby.
İts about ARİS BC FANS and we have the same atmosphere in every single game especially with our rivals Paok. You should watch more videos about our ultras of ARIS FC-BC
Ultra’s are groups of fans, and each ultra has at least 1 capo (captain). Some groups are very large, and some can be smaller but have the support of the other fans from within the same fanbase. No display is ever spontaneous. It is meticulously planned and take weeks, even months to prepare. Songs are created and each fan learns the words. These days a lot of the songs are spread via the internet. Sometimes a club can have multiple ultras groups and they don’t always get along with each other, this can be for a variety of reasons including politics and personality clashes. A lot of the time they don’t have problems though and just occupy different areas of the stadium. If this was the case they would also co-ordinate on displays. All of these tifos (displays) around stadiums you see are destroyed after they are used, usually burned. It would be humiliating if you kept a tifo and it fell into the hands of an ultra's group from a rival team.
Yep, it happens before everything in the US. It's something they have in common with Russia and China, funnily enough. The only sport in the UK where I've personally experienced the national anthem before every bog-standard game is ice hockey. It tends to be saved for Cup finals otherwise.
From a football/soccer point of view, you should check out Liverpool fc fans in Madrid before their champions league final with Spurs. 50,000 fans in the city centre just singing and having fun all afternoon 😁
I always found it weird that y'all sing the national anthem before every sports games. Also don't get why y'all changed national anthem from America the Beautiful to Stars Spangled Banner, your country is way prettier than the flag.
The one with the flairs and confeti is from a famous Greek derby between Aris and PAOK. The city is Thessaloniki. The one with the flairs happend one night when the electric power went off and the fans did that as something to kill their time. The funny thing is that the chant is highly offensive to their rivals for everyone who knows Greek language. The one with the confeti is between the same teams. Its kind of tradition when the game starts everyone throws confetti as a ritual. As i said there is a huge rivalry between them and this is something for 'good luck'. Not dangerous, even the players like it. Even the American players. Also a note. No, all these are not paid by any team, all these are made from the fans. They pay everything, club has nothing to do with that.
3:40 It's an American corporate team against another American corporate team. None of the teams is there representing the USA! Why the hell does it make any sense singing the national anthem? What next? Sing it before a movie projecting? Before any new TV show? At the beginning of a circus performance?
In Europe, a sports club, for example Barcelona, has several sports sections such as football, basketball, handball, volleyball, rugby, etc. What you see in the stands, they are not just basketball fans, they are fans of the club regardless of the sport. You will see the same fans in basketball, volleyball, football, handball ...

The difference in Europe is, that most of the major Sports Clubs aren't just football clubs. They have divisions in many other sports and many fans support the Club in its entirety not just the football division. Like the first Club with the confetti was Aris and they have like 20 different departments. Football, basketball, volleyball, wrestling, etc. all the way down to chess.
To sing the national anthem when it's not an international competition will never not be weird to me. What's the point if everyone on the field is american and it's not in the context of an intercultural exchange? I am genuinely confused.
One thing ia that the sane club in Europe has all sports, if you look up barcelona basket its the sanw club as the soccer one, it's like for instance, la Lakers had nfl and mlb teams. When you talk about religion, it's like more defending our turf pur part of the city /country. The arenas normally are nearby the stadium, so it's very common im Europe, I'm a benfica fan, a great team of portugal to support my team hockey team at afternoon and afterwards go on and support them at soccer in the stadium.
