Europe tour 2023 (day 1 & 2) on the Husqvarna Norden 901 Expedition with my son as a pillion. The full route is Sweden to Italy and back.
This episode includes Brudsjällsvägen, a "roller coaster" road in Sweden between Högsbyn and Håverud.

Thanks for this video! We also do a lot of two up riding. Went from a pan am to a r1200gs and picking up the expedition Wednesday! I hope it will serve us well

@@motoludus had two of them. 7 months 15000km and nothing but technical issues! From a worn clutch to oil in the coolant

I plan to get and 901 expedition but haven't tested one yet. I just love the design and from reviews it seems an amazing all rounder. I have a couple of questions: 1. How is the reliability? 2. How comfort is it for the pillion? 3. How well does it go on the road? I tested the Desert X and I was blown away on how fast you can ride it onroad.

Hi! It is truly a great all rounder for sure! It works well for travelling/touring. The longest distance i have done in one day of riding is 970km and it worked just perfect (well i got tired of course). And it is alot of fun on gravel and manage dirt ok. I have not experienced any issues with the bike and looking at the forums i would say it is reliable eventhough a few individuals have experienced some issues. But statistically it is reliable for sure. I often have a pillion, my son at 160cm / 50kg (dry), and he prefer the 901 before the R1200GS i had before. I also heard from others it works well for them. As a rider still i would give the R1200GS a slight advantage as it has the telelever suspension which manage the extra weight better when braking, however it is not bad on the 901.

For the road it is great with plenty of power and twisties are fun even with the 21" front wheel. I guess it comes down to previous experience and expectations. It is not a sports bike nor a dirt bike, but a great mid-sized adventure bike that will take you further than a GS and still be very capable and comfy as a commuter or travel bike. Hope this helps a bit in your decision!

What was it like 2UP and fully loaded (handling, power, gas milage and over all feel)?
@motoludus

Well, being an adventure bike with lots of off road potential i would say it performed great. In comparison to my previous r1200gs it performed decent, but the two bikes are biased differently and the gs had the 19 inch front wheel and the husky an 21 inch, those things matter and serpentine roads requires a bit more from the driver on the husky but it never feels awkward and the opposite on dirt/gravel roads where the gs would fall behind and the husky shines. The beemer has the telelever front suspension which is awesome carrying a pillion and luggage as the husky front dives abit on hard breaking, which u need to get used to, but many other bikes run great without the telelever u just have to be aware and set the preload and susp. When it comes to power it is also a close call, on touring only tarmac the gs is ahead but not by much. On gravel and dirt the husky is. You never feel lack of power, there is plenty. Last but not least, my pillion definetely prefer the Husky over the beemer and I guess that is quite an important part of the equation - if not the most important!

Forgot the mileage. I didnt track it in detail but I actually didnt find it consuming much more compared to riding myself, but I guess it has to do with slower speed and less agressive riding 2up. I would say around 4-4,5lit/100km average (59- 52mpg). But if you long haul on highways/autobahn/autostrada at ~120-140 km/h (75-90mph) you are closer to 6lit/100km (~39,2 mpg) as the consumption increase exponentially!

Thanks for the quick reply, and great to hear. I am trading in my KTM 1290 SAR for one in the new year. They were all sold here in Canada before they made it into the dealerships, so I have my name on one now :). I sometimes take my daughter on rides and was a bit concerned. the 1290 is a great bike but it's just a bit too much off road. So great to also hear it shines better off road than your GS. @@motoludus

Oh I also forgot, max speed in Canada is 110KM/h so shouldn't be an issue here! My KTM would get 5.6L/100 in city and I could get at best 4.6L/100 on highway. But I don't mind stopping and I used to tour regularly on my ZX10R, yah a sportbike (what was I thinking!) it would only get about 250 to 300KM per tank at best. @@motoludus

The 1290 i an awesome bike, but as you mention, it is a bit to much off road i guess. Nice to hear your daughter ride as a pillion, some nice memories are created 👍 We do alot of gravel on our rides but nothing more serious off road but I will try to advance that bit slowly as of next season when I put on new nobbies on the back wheel 😊
