Six (or even seven) English teams can qualify for the Champions League. The coefficient gives two countries a fifth place guaranteed. Then if the CL and EL winners aren’t in those five they also get a place (but no extra places if they are already qualified). So in the current situation Arsenal winning the CL won’t gain an extra place for them since they finished second, but it will improve the coefficient for England. After the CL final you get the notice on the final calculation of coefficient.
That was the old system. Under the new rules starting this season (24/25) there’s no cap. You get the extra place for coefficient and all of the teams in the top 5 are guaranteed to be included even if teams outside the top 5 win the CL and EL.
For future reference it's easy to check the extra ucl place race- just click on the globe in the top right, go to Europe, national club coefficients then hover over nations and go on the continental comp nation coefficients place race. You can check this any time in the season but the extra spots aren't confirmed until all 3 European seasons are complete. Also, there's no limit on the number of english teams so whoever wins the ucl and europa finals doesnt impact whether 5th qualifies as well, apart from its impact on the coefficients
The years of playing no where near the fanbase are coming to an end... though at this point are their more Wembley fans at Dulwich Hamlet than Wembley?
I think the news if England has another UCL spot comes around june or july, Kev. And yes, it could be 6 english teams there, I think. Congrats on the qualification to Europe, tho.
Congrats on the league finish ahead of schedule. That name situation is absolutely hilarious, wish it was named after either of the 2 biggest names in the story, but ah well, think you need the editor to do that. Transfer special is gonna be special to watch soon
