DYING when he calls window screens "amazing technology"! They're literally just a piece of mesh fabric.

So many Europeans remark of how much they love the concept of window screens. One of them should start a business of selling and installing window screens.

The first time I heard Europe doesn't have window screens, I was shocked

This is definitely an upscale home, not the average. I could live without two ice makers and 6 televisions but I could not live without screens on my windows...

That house is an upper middle class house. I would have said middle class but the fact it’s located on a lake makes it pricier. The kitchen and open layout of the house is very similar to my house and I would consider our family middle class.

The thin wire mesh screen keeps out bugs, birds and little animals. Yes every single window has a screen.

Older American here. Window screens also keep your pets inside the house. There are a variety of build-your-own window screen kits to retrofit aluminum framed screens to your windows.

We even have screens on our exterior doors! It’s like a door that opens outward outside the front door. Most homes with exterior doors have them.

Very rarely are there fences in American front yards. Most teenagers have their own car. Or at least the oldest teenager. Pretty much every home in America has AC. Screens make 100% common sense. Bugs dude. Bugs exist.

This home looks like an upper middle class home. I live in a rural home. We do have screens like all Americans, but we lack a garbage disposal, central air conditioning, and an ice maker. Also, we have just 2 TVs. And we also don't have a dog 🥺. We are one of the few homes in our agrarian/rural community that does not have a dog. I'm working on that.

What an eye opener! As a US senior citizen, I've grown up with window screens, mailbox flags, and garbage disposals, and have just taken them for granted. In other countries, I've only stayed in apartments or hotels, so I never questioned their absence. You're right that the house being shown was not really typical for people of average income, though it varies by region. I also doubt that most people have as many televisions or cars as that household. I'm pretty solidly middle class, and I've never had more than one TV in the house, or more than one vehicle per adult. As to Golden Retrievers, yup, they're generally great with kids and cats. But be careful about checking the background of purebred dogs - they can have genetic health issues. My own Golden died quite young of cancer. After decades of fostering dogs, cats, and children, my best "nanny dogs" have been big old mutts. Give them lots of love and they'll for sure return it to everyone around them

You will find Window screens throughout pretty much all of the United States.

Never been in a US house without a screen. In my opinion 6 tvs is a crazy amount. I have 1 and then my tablet. Depending on where this house is located (what state) will have a big impact of the price but in general I agree, these people have a high end house

How does any European country NOT have screens on their windows. This is very bizarre to me.

Lol pretty much all North American homes have window screens and screen doors as well. We get all the benefits of fresh air and no mosquitoes, no flies, nor any other creepy crawlers. I honestly can’t understand European homes that don’t have screens. Even if you don’t have mosquitoes…..everywhere on the planet mostly has insects of some sort…..who would want them in your house?

Usually in poorer neighborhoods, a family shares a car or take a bus if they live in a city. Sometimes, they have two cars; but the insurance and payments can be costly. Window screens are very common and a/c, however touch facets, multi - functioning refrigerator, electric recliners, and garbage dispenser are upper middle class right now. We do love ice. Most of us can afford a basic form of them, but nothing that too advanced without a lot of savings. The average number of tvs are about two or three. Sometimes, they are used or were on sale.

Yes that's a home on the rich side, BUT, she is right on the product's that are in just about every home. My sister lives in a manufactured home cheaply made and has all those products. She has 4 TV's not 6. You could live on the poor side of town and still have half or more of those things. The chairs are called lazy boys. Your town probably sales screens, may you could fit it to your window. Make it yourself and open your window this summer. 😊

She made a mistake by showing the screen with the camera too far away to let the viewers see the wire mesh. At that distance you can't see what she means, so you thought it was just another window. If the camera got in close you could see the mesh and it would make more sense.

Coffee cups, mugs, and thermal containers collect up, many as gifts, and most are never used.

I have a Golden Retriever and everybody is right - they are great family dogs. Mine is 3 years old and i had to tell her not to be so excited around my 14 year old cats, so when they're passing ways she always waits for them. It's crazy! She goes out in the yard and stays in my yard even though i don't have a fence and I live at the end of town. So smart. They love everyone. Perfect choice!

Absolutely true. We can open the windows with no fear of bugs coming in! I can't believe you guys don't have screens!!! Yes there is a fine screen there, keeps out bugs, but allows air to flow thru!!!

Golden Retrievers and Labradors are both excellent dogs for homes with children. Not only do we have screens on our windows, many homes also have screened in porches so that the residents can sit outside and not be bothered by insects.

There is not another window; it's a screen - it's a thin metal mesh that lets a breeze in and keeps the bugs out. If one is able to open windows at opposite parts of the room/house, a nice crossflow of air is transported through the rooms.

I have a kitchen sink that fits pots, pans, dishes, glasses, moveable nozzles and spray vs. water faucet. A garbage disposal is standard.

In my opinion this is at least upper middle class, not middle class. Our 1000 sq. ft. middle-class home was built in the 1960s, with window screens, no garbage disposal, small lot, no lakefront. Two occupants, 3 tvs. 😊

The stereotypical mailbox is a rural mailbox; what were on farms. They hung out this way so the postal carrier could put in your mail without getting out of the vehicle (mail vehicles are right-hand-drive to make this easier). The US Mail is a service, not unlike military service or the public health service, it is in the constitution that it is to be provided to all homes in the US. Without this mail service, the US would not have expanded as it did (you could literally mail houses or children through USPS)

The mail boxes vary depending on location. Many still have the traditional mail slot in the door. The metal mailboxes are typically used in suburban and rural areas.

This is most likely a middle-class home. They have a great life, but it isn't a rich home - unless this is close to a major city. This looks and feels like a middle-class home in a nice suburban area. A very nice place to raise a family. The openess in the yards is actually a good thing as the children are likely to play with neighboring children - and mom's and dad's can keep an eye on the kids.

Golden Retrievers are by far the best around kids. Very easy to train and gentle with kids🙏

Window screens are the best item on that list. The others are nice, but they're just luxuries. Screens are a necessity. Without them, opening your windows is an invitation to all kinds of bugs.

Pretty much everyone has window screens of some sort. I open my windows a lot during the Spring and Autumn when the temperatures are reasonable. I have one car-it’s the one I drive everywhere. I don’t have a fancy faucet like that one and I have a double sink that adds up to about the same space as her big one. I have an ice maker-one of my favorite things, along with my dishwasher. When I moved into this house, there was a refrigerator/freezer that had an external ice and water dispenser. I am enjoying that! Now, to disappoint you…I have one television and it hasn’t been turned on in six years. I can’t afford broadband internet and/or cable vision. I watch RU-vid and I read. I read a LOT! I also listen to music a lot.

Golden Retrievers are the best dogs. Windows in the US open by sliding them up and close by sliding them down. That makes it possible to have a screen and still open the window. If your windows open by being pushed out toward the side of the house they can't be opened if you have our type of screen. This looks like a typical middleclass house, built and decorated for comfort and convenience.

When we lived in Germany I was astonished that the home we lived in did not have window screens. We had the windows open so much and had to deal with flies coming in all of the time! Why? Why no screens? This is a cultural thing to have the windows open for at least a small amount of time year round, and since there is no air conditioning, it is necessary in the summer to keep windows open for ventilation. Ugh! Up to 5 flies buzzing around in our great room drove me absolutely nuts!

I'm in America and I've never seen a fridge with two ice makers. No, most homes do not have garbage disposals. I have never lived in a home with a garbage disposal.

Almost every single window has a window screen. Some homes even have screen doors so you can still have your door open and allow the air to come through without letting the bugs in.

American homes come with many amenities no matter the home, from RVs to Mansions. Most of the low income houses like Mobile Homes and Apartment buildings come with the basics, window screens and air conditioning. You can gage amenities and price brackets by looking at vacation homes from low to high to see what is common and not so common throughout America.

Window and door screens are normal to keep bugs out. The house she's in is normal. But being on a lake is a luxury property. Lots of TVs are normal, multiple cars are normal. It's a pretty typical middle class to upper middle class home. It's not a mansion or anything.

In the mid 1960s most houses did have two TVs. The old black & white ones that got moved to another communal room or a kid's room, and the new color TVs that took over where the B&W TV was. I had a small portable B&W TV, that I sometimes lugged around until the 1985 or so. When I was young if someone was having a sleepover, and I had an adult to drive me back and forth (and help me carry it!!), I was asked to bring it so we could lock ourselves away from the adults. My dad had had to move out of state for a project the aerospace company he worked for was designing. He'd only needed it for six months and never used it again. We usually had at least one girl with a portable record player too. Ask your wife if she and her friends all went into a darkend ( except for one candle) to see if they could summon Bloody Mary.

1) Ice makers are fairly standard on new refrigerators, garbage disposers have been in our homes for at least 60 years. 2) The faucet and sink shown here are sold as regular items at Costco - many people have them. 3) It is easy to get a TV in all rooms - Walmart sells 32" TVs starting at $100 so not really a problem to accumulate. Goldies are wonderful dogs. Highly energetic as puppies, though. But, they calm down.

Definitely NOT a millionaire home, lol, esp in the midwest. This would be considered upper middle class...probably around $400-500k based on what we can see.

You need to lobby your home improvement stores for window screens, central air conditioning, sprayer faucets, and garbage disposals. You deserve to live in comfort!

I was born I'm 1965. My parents bought their first house in 1965 for $35,000, we had 2 cars(one for my dad to go to work, my mom had one to take my sister and I to doctor's appointments, school, the grocery store, amongst other places. In New Mexico we had swamp coolers because it's not as humid as the west coast, east coast, or the southern states that are right by the Gulf Of Mexico. We are in the Southwest so it can get very hot sometimes around 110! The screen in the window let's air in, but keeps the bugs out especially: flies, mosquitoes, bees, wasps, most spiders, grasshoppers, etc. extremely important to have. From 1965 to 1987 we had 2 tv's (one in the den or family room, and 1 in my parents room.) In 1987 when I moved out on my own I only had 1. 6 tv's is a bit excessive, but it depends on the size of the house, how many children you have. My parents have had bigger houses since my sister and I moved out, but we're not excessive maybe a maximum of 3. The garbage disposal is very important because the more food you put in a trash can start to stink or attract bugs. You also don't put just any food down the disposal and you don't put giant pieces of food down it either, from 1965 to the present there have always been garbage disposal's. Ice is a big thing( yes we know it dilutes drinks), but it helps things to stay cold, and if you have an injury of some kind to keep the swelling down you can put ice cubes in a baggie, also I'm probably not the exception, but I like to chew on ice.

Americans: We have food delivery robots. Europeans: Yeah sure, but tell us about window screens!

The insulated cups are for hot or cold liquids. Keeps coffee hot and sodas or waters cold.

It's a rich home, but many of these components are standard here. I live in a no-where Kansas town, but my home still has several of these features.

I have a friend who is a plumber. He calls garbage disposals job security. People put way too much down the drain that should be in the garbage!

With that lake in the backyard that's definitely a pricey home but the you can generally find the majority of the things she showed (or a version of them) in a good portion of American homes.

There is only one ice maker in the fridge. The ice maker is the box-like part in the fridge. When the door is closed, it dispenses the ice out the front, into your glass.

I love your complete amazement about the screens lol. As an American living in the midwest, I cannot imagine not having air conditioning or screens!

That home, if it wasn't by the lake, would be pretty typical of a new build. And prices in the midwest are low compared to the coast, so could be pretty affordable.

Some people have one tv in every room. Others may have only two or three for the house. I only have two.

Portable screens can be put in any window. They are light weight and don't have be part of the window. The window holds it in place.

One strange thing we have is out outlets. We have somthing called gfci (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupt) these will be found near sorces of water and will brake the circuit is it detects power going to ground. It is my understanding that European homes have rcd (Residential Current Device) serves the same function but covers the entire home. In the us each electrical socket equipped with gfci is only braking its conection to the rest of the home. You can tell if a socket is equipped with gfci if there are 2 buttons labeled test and reset normally located between the 2 sockets.

Window screens are a must have. You can’t allow all kinds of bugs in your home when you open a window or door. There are also screen doors. That is pretty much a middle class house here (not a rich person’s home). My home has three levels. I currently have six TV’s. One in every bedroom, one in the den off the kitchen, one in the living room and I had one in the Master bathroom but I had it removed because my husband couldn’t get out of the bathroom in the morning watching CNN. He was late every day. The reason people fence in their yards vary. Some do because they have pets. Some do for privacy. You don’t want perfect strangers watching you lounge around in your backyard. And then there is an old saying “ Fences make good neighbors “. As for the mailboxes, my mailbox is attached to my house, as most are in the city. The type of mailboxes you’re seeing are mostly in suburban homes. I don’t have to use a flag, I just put outgoing mail in my mailbox and the postman picks them up when he drops off my mail.

Golden Retrievers are some of the best family dogs. They are big lovable goofs. I've never met an angry golden. They are very gentle. That said, there's plenty of good breeds.

Every home has screens to keep out insects from coming inside while you can still get fresh air. I live in Georgia, USA and we love our ice.

Not only do our windows have Screens, but I have a Sliding Screen Door on my Sliding Glass Door going out to my backyard. On nice days I can open the Sliding Door, and close the Sliding Screen Door to allow fresh air in, and my cats all sit at it looking out, and smelling all of the outdoor smells. They hear me opening the Sliding Glass Door, and closing the Screen Door they all come running. My cats are strictly Indoor Cats, so this is a way for them to somewhat experience the outdoors.

Midwesterner here. I live in town, so my mailbox is attached to the side of the house right outside my front door. It doesn't have the flag, so if you want to send a letter you leave it sticking partway out of the box with the stamp showing and the mailman will take it. Window screens are great - especially in spring and fall. The house in the video, if it was located by me (northwest Indiana) would be considered typical middle class and cost around $200,000 - 300,000, mainly because it's on a lake. If it wasn't on a lake, it would be closer to $150,000 - 200,000. We only have one ice maker built into the fridge and don't use Ice that much. We do have 3 TVs (one in the living room, one in the dart room - dart room is not typical for US but my significant other loves darts, and one in the bedroom), but certainly not 6! We do each have our own vehicle, because I drive an hour away for work, but only one per person. We do not have any pets and there are no golden retrievers in our neighborhood.

Goldens are great dogs for kids. My golden is very patient with all my nieces who range from 1 - 7 yrs old. He is so gentle with them. In fact, he has turned multiple people who were previously scared of dogs (due to being attacked by a dog as children) to proud golden retriever parents.

This was an upper middle class home. It was beautiful, but not as expensive or rich as you think. Midwestern homes are cheaper than other parts of our country so your money goes further to have a bigger home.

In the SE US, window screens are a MUST. Admittedly, where I am, the only time I'll open the windows is spring, fall, or to air out the house - otherwise, the heat or air conditioning is on. But those few weeks of perfect weather... in spring are bees, and late summer is mosquitos. No one would open their windows without a screen. They're in every window that opens in most homes.

Before we replaced the old windows on our house, it was two single pane windows that had to be opened separately. When you opened the window, there was another glass window. It was trying to be double pane, but before double pane windows were a thing. It was so annoying and would jam all the time. It had three layers. A glass window, another glass window, and a wire mesh screen. The house was built in 1960, and the windows were original to the home.

We not only have screens on the windows, many of us also have something called storm windows. So, on the outside of my windows, there are three pieces - one screen and two glass, each is half the height of the whole window. In good weather, I push both the storm (glass) windows to the top and the screen on the bottom, so that fresh air comes in if I open the inner window. During the winter, I can have the storm windows on top and bottom, which keeps more cold air out and adds an extra layer of insulation as long as the inner window is closed. So, yes, if the storm windows are closed, it is like having two windows. A point about the garbage disposal is that, here anyway, you can only have one if you are connected to the town sewer. If you have a septic tank, you should not have one, I assume because the food waste from the disposal would accumulate in the tank and cause problems.

In urban areas where homes are close together, the mailbox is on the front porch. The mail carrier goes door to door to put the mail in the boxes and you don’t usually have to leave the house to bring in the mail. In the suburbs or out in the country, the mailboxes are usually on the edge of the street or road and the mail is delivered by the driver of the mail truck. The drivers’ side is on the right instead of the left so the driver can reach the mailboxes without getting out of the vehicle.

Metal mesh or polyester mesh screens keep out bugs. And birds I lived in a small pennsylvania town, and nobody had fences. If a neighbor put one up , it might be called. A " spite fence". Yes that is a nice home, looks pretty big, on a lake. It is probably $500000 or More

Every house has screens on windows. A lot of homes have storm windows too. Storm windows allow you to open the top of the window when it is raining and allows the air to still come in and keeps the rain out. LOVE my storm windows because it keeps the house from being stuffy during a summer rain storm.

I’m in New Jersey in the USA and have a window, a screen and another window on my home! The second window is called a storm window, it gets put up in the summer and pulled down in the winter to prevent drafts and heat loss.

I’m 63 and have had window screens all my life. I love watching you! When you come to America we will spoil you. That house is beautiful but isn’t that big. I doubt it costs a million or even close. I have a big house but only 4 TV’s. I don’t put TV’s in any of my guest bedrooms. Certainly wouldn’t not put one in the formal dining room.

Fun story: I like to feed the squirrels outside my kitchen window. I keep the peanuts near the window and toss them out to the critters. I left the house opened up one night to enjoy the nice fresh air. One of the squirrels apparently realized where the peanuts came from and chewed a hole through the metal mesh screen. I woke up in the morning to my cat having a Mexican standoff with the squirrel in my kitchen. Good times.

Most people don't have 2 ice makers in their refrigerator. We only have 5 TVs in my house (counting my computer monitor which is actually a TV but I seldom use it as a TV, although I can).

Rich is relative. I would say this is a midwestern suburban middle class home. It's not a lot different from my midwestern home from what I can see. The only difference is it appears to be on a lake. Lake homes cost and are worth more, but it depends on when her parents bought the house and where it is located. It looks like an older home, that has been renovated. Also televisions are now relatively inexpensive. You can get a 55in tv from Walmart for less than $300. Having seven tv's is not a big deal. We have seven also, one in each bedroom, one in the family room and one in the basement.

Screens are very cheap too. Many are made out of a plastic mesh with plastic frame, but still do the job. I have no idea why they aren't employed everywhere if you ever want to open the windows. You can also easily remove them if you wanted to, so there really isn't a downside.

Every home I have ever seen in America is build with window screens, garbage disposals, dish washers and washing machines are not in the kitchen. Not every home has air conditioning. It depends on the region but the majority of homes have AC. Some regions do not need it as they do not have hot, hot summer days. Seven TVs is not typical. America has more land for houses than typical in Europe so houses are a bit larger.

Here in America all homes have screens on the windows.

I would like to say that I live in an older house built in the 20’s and it doesn’t have screens. But you can buy portable screens at any number of stores including online.

screens are a wire or plastic mesh, I can't believe the rest of the world doesn't use them. They are cheap and easy to fix or replace.

Another thing to add about the window screens, on some windows the screen can be slid up, down, or taken out completely to allow for complete openness if someone chooses to do so.

The mesh screen is necessary to prevent insects from flying into the home. Some are customized for each windor , or you can buy different size screens to insert in the window (these are adjustable).
