Europe's Ariane 6 launch blasted off successfully on Tuesday on its maiden flight.
Weighing 540 tonnes and standing 56 metres tall, Europe's newest rocket left the launchpad in French Guiana around 4 p.m.local time at the start of a nearly three-hour flight designed to end a year-long hiatus in European access to space.

@@apb2081 we are a part of ESA. We have been a part of the Ariane rocket family and European launches. No. We do not actively work on Ariane 6 but we never have and brexit had nothing to do with it. We still very much have a part in European spaceflight for example, here a number of Webb instruments were made as well as the solar orbiter spacecraft. We will also host our own and European rocket launches from Scotland with RDA having recently tested a rocket at their launch pad and Orbex making progress on their own vehicle So no. We are not watching with envy over something we never had a part in but instead watching in anticipation of all the missions we will work on that Ariane 6 will fly

So they know how to get passed the so called Van Allen Belts of 500 degrees Kelvin. Since we now have that technology that we somehow lost 50 years ago. Please tell me why there is still a 20-second delay for the image as the women reports. All those "satellites" and none a good enough to keep the video solid the entire time without any delay. Nice CGI.

Italy's Avio built this one-piece engine case, wrapping carbon fiber in a lightweight, sturdy shell casing. ArianeGroup in France developed the P120C's innovative nozzle, while Nammo in Norway supplied the igniter Teamwork... Not just French....

Why? Because space x is doing it? Not every launch space x does is reusable either. And it’s about cost. Different mission parameters.

@@damedusa5107 Falcon heavy is still cheaper than this. Ariane 6 costs $162,000,000 per launch, Falcon Heavy is $97,000,000. It's not even close

This is PRIMARILY about making EU completely independent from ANYONE else in the world, talking about space launching. And it achieved exactly that.

Exactly, we should have been aiming for that. As someone else wrote, it was obsolete before it was off the drawing board. But it keeps Europe in the space game I guess. They are fortunate that out of spite Bezos wasn’t going to launch on Falcon 9 and I guess Musk doesn’t want to launch a rival satellite constellation anyway.
