@@ljames2791 except Britain. That is not called funny, we call people like that an asshole. If you want to poke jokes to others make more aimed at you so it is respectful. But then again, this was BBC made for British people.
What a hypocritical audience. I do not like block voting, but I find it odd that when an Eastern country votes for another Eastern country, they get booed by the audience, but when Denmark gives 12 points to Sweden, everyone cheers.
Actually, that year voting was 100% televote. Of course Macedonia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia are going to vote for Serbia the most. Our music scene is pretty much the same and we all understand each other
This just demonstrates how little Terry Wogan knew about geography, European culture or even how he contest works. To him everything east of Germany was 'the Balkans'. He talked about political voting at a time when the voting was 100% televote. He is surprised when Croatians vote for the Serbian song, considering the two countries are neighbours, speak the same language and have the same musical tastes. He talks about 'satellite states' without really understanding what they are.
Terry Wogan was very much a product of his time. He grew up with Soviet Russia in full flow. He yearned for the British empire. And the fool was Irish ...
This is what I try to explain my friends for years! Music taste is different in europe and languages also we vote for what we now, understand and is closest to us. So a dutch person would not quickly vote for a Polish song in their own language but quicker to english music because they can understand it. Where someone from Belarus knows Russian very wel will vote for Russia
I'm from Croatia and I'm glad that Croatia and other ex-Yugoslavia countries gave 12 points to Serbia, sadly we don't team anymore, we all hate each other more then before. Serbia is one of the best winners of Eurovision ever, they always send good songs. Greetings. ❤
Nah, this are pretty much the same with public votes. Croatia still gives a lot of points to Serbia, and vise versa. The thing is that in the show they show us only the jury's votes, and they are influenced by the governments to vote differently. For example, Serbia in 2018 got zero votes from Croatian jury, but got 12 points from public votes.
I'm portuguese and love Croatia in the contest... I also love the lady spokesperson for this voting... I do believe that the block voting was excessive this year... like AMcedonia got almost no points if you take out block voting... It also seems like Serbia is the one benefiting from neighbour voting these days...
Serbia deserved to win that year! Marija was just so amazing on stage and her emotion was strong! Serbia has one of the best songs in Eurovision every year!
Hvala svim dragim komsijama.
Commentator is stupid. The marks are given by people to the song mostly. If UK has a bad song it's not a problem of other countries. And stop boooing Russia every time it gets 12 points from the countries where there are s lot of Russians. Better start booing Scandinavian block voting.
Besides, the Eastern Block is not any better than Scandinavia. You cant defend the Eastern European blockvoting while talking shit about the same thing happening in Scandinavia.
It's beautiful, how he complains so much about neighbours voting for each other except when Malta, a cultural neighbour of UK, gives the douze points to them 😂 he deserves an Oscar
So, apparently people complained that only Eastern European countries took the highest positions that year. But Western Europeans gave their votes to the East. I don't get it.........
2007 and 2008 entries of Armenia were dope, Turkish people jammed to Qele Qele, don't you remember? Retail stores, cafes were playing it, even turkish dj's made few hit remix of it :)
Nova Ordus Turkey has many illegal armenian migrants and kurdified armenians in eastern Turkey... Bosnia has a large serbian minority living in the "republic of srpska"... This is not a case of the world being a better place. People just voted for their own...
So when the Scandinavians give each other 12 points and stuff thats ok... or portugal and spain... or france and belgium etc... but when Serbia gets 12 points from its neighbours (and serbia had a fantastic song btw) then thats like soooo biased
Yeah this year it was a good a song so Serbia did well but when you compare some shit they have sent e.g. 2009 they still get votes from neighbours. For example Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2008 didn't deserve to do better than many songs! it was horrid! Same with Spain in 2008!
Us the Romans, conquered the slavs with our superior arms, we impose our rule to you for hundreds of years, you should thank us greatly that we gave you an alphabet and a christian religion, back to the old days slavs were unwashed primitives hiding in forests and worshiping wood and stone, most of you were enslaved by your turkic neighbours (Huns, Avars, Bolghars et.c.).
Comrade Hellas Alphabet is OUR ftom Vincha, one pleace near Belegrade and 5 000 years old civilisation with ILLYRIANS but old Illyrians are SERBS that high of 184cm and DINARIODIC faces we are still now with this look, but Albanians, you and Turks are same with faces and high of 150cm. We are not SLAVS we are ILLYRIANS and your 60% of HISTORY and ALPHABET is from ILLYRIANS or SERBIANS and Troya was not here where you think, that place is near SKADAR old Serbian city and capital city for the ages!!!!!Enough from me!!!!! :))))))
If UK sends bad song why the hell he complains so mutch? Even west european countries did not vote for them. Also, rescpect other cultures and regions. Western Europe is not only part of Europe.
Who thought that the UK flag flying over the entire world was an appropriate theme to make a song over? British are completely oblivious to the fact that everyone hates them for their colonial past.
I'm sorry, I just noticed how no one said anything in the comments regarding the fact that this British commentator said that Romania is always full of absolute rubbish. How rude is that? He said some other rude things regarding other countries but that was by far the most disrespectful. I can't believe such racism and disrespect between people and countries still exist within our world today. And considering the fact that Romania did far better than UK, I doubt he even has any right to say anything regarding the country or its artists. Considering we are all part of the European Union, I sincerely doubt such disrespect should still exist. We may not be border neighbours but we're still part of the same continent and union. How rude and disappointing. And to think, Romania is always underestimated and looked down upon, yet we have some incredible people and positive aspects within the country, yet we're always overlooked and viewed negatively.

İ don't want talk about you, because you are irreverent to my culture and my faith. Remember, you representing Russians in here. And remember, the problems are beetween the governments. Have a good day.
Terry Wogan was just complaining about all those eastern countries because he was just pissed off that anybode voted for the UK! That year all western countries sent some shit to the Eurovision and only the Eastern Countries took that contest seriously at least they tried (see Ukraine - at least funny song).
Dawid Agostini How the hell did Ukraine take their song seriously in 2007. The song was shit, so if the UK sent that song like the Ukraine we would do badly and Ukraine would do so amazingly well.
+Jörg Schulz Ukrainian song is fat trolling of Eurovision, we send it to have fun and to make people laugh, not to win. It's still amuses us how Verka got #2, looks like people got really bored with standard songs and just voted for a comedian.
“Looks like Serbia will win it, you see looks aren’t everything”....what a shitty thing to say the commentator is so bad. If he didn’t want to do it, he shouldn’t have taken the job.
The commentator (Terry Wogan) had been doing Eurovision since 1971 (missing a couple here and there). The problem with Wogan was that he'd been doing if for so long that he'd adopted a mostly mocking tone towards contestants as it got towards the end of his stint. This was his penultimate Eurovision - he decided to stop after 2008, claiming he'd had enough of the strategic block voting (which had reached its peak by the late 00's, to be fair). Wogan was loved in the UK for his cutting remarks on Eurovision, and because he had become a national treasure by this point, he was virtually untouchable and immune from criticism. Since his death in 2016, people have been a bit more forthcoming with their criticism of his unkind Eurovision remarks, and I think I have to agree. I think I was kind of glad when he decided to give it up. His replacement, Graham Norton, has his own brand of sarcasm and bitchiness, but he hasn't reached Wogan's level yet. Yet ...
@@neilonaniet I completely understand it’s frustrating. And having watched this I concur that bloc voting was simply insane. I know about Terry Wogan, but I don’t think it’s very professional to make fun of the acts just because he’s frustrated over how the contest works. And his age/prestige don’t excuse his demeaning comments. The artists themselves have nothing to do with it. I thought the British are renowned for their stiff upper lip? Idk. Also correct me if I’m wrong, but I do think that Terry’s commentary cemented the British attitude of dismissing the song contest as a stupid, camp spectacle that is of little merit. Hence why the UK often sends sub par acts and gets overshadowed by countries that take the contest more seriously. Having said all that, James Newman was great didn’t deserve zero points at all. His song was fun and catchy. He took it like a champ and I’m a fan.
@@elinat2414 I don't know if you're British or not, so forgive me if I'm preaching to the converted here. But anyone else reading this who who isn't British may find this interesting. The British do indeed tend to have a dismissive attitude towards Eurovision these days, but that's all to do with how we see ourselves in the world. We seem to think that we are superior to everyone, and when we start losing it's because of some conspiracy theory, or because people are ganging up on us. I should point out that I am one of those who do NOT share this view, and hate my fellow bigoted Brits with a passion. When we were regularly winning Eurovision, or doing well in it, everything was fine. Then the former Soviet and Yugoslav nations started joining in, and the bloc voting began. At the same time, we started to lose favour with the world due to such things as supporting the USA in the invasion of Iraq, and wars in Afghanistan etc. At the same time, the right-ring media have, for the last few decades now, been stirring up anti-EU rhetoric, and of course that all came to a head in 2016 when we were lied to by rich, white men so we would vote to leave the EU. For the record, I think leaving the EU was a huge mistake. Of course, since the realities of Brexit have started hitting home, the only people who remain passionate about Brexit are the ones with the most hate (or stupidity) inside them. Anyway, since the current government took over in 2010, we have seen a continual erosion of transparency and accountability from the people in charge in the UK. The current government is one of the most inept and corrupt we've ever had. They're riding high in the opinion polls, and I can only assume this is the case because their policies reflect those of a largely bigoted nation. I've never seen so much overt displays of right-wing behaviour among people in real life or on the internet than I have in the last five years. The people see that the government is being awful, and think, "Oh, excellent - I can finally be openly racist now". If you read the right-wing media in this country (which is most of the media here) the day after Eurovision 2021 you would be forgiven for thinking that Europe had declared us their mortal enemy, and that war was coming. Just about every media outlet carried stories about "Why do we even bother entering any more?" (because we obviously feel entitled to win every year), and "The EU and Europe conspired to give us nul points (again)". It's very childish, and points to our sense of entitlement in the world. We have such a dreadful superiority complex. And I hate it. I HATE this country, and what it's become. I can only apologise for British people and their moronic behaviour when it comes to turning a simple song competition into a political hate fest against the rest of Europe. Of course, these same idiots are moaning that they can't go on holiday in Spain or Portugal this year because of Coronavirus. "We hate you, but we're coming over to get drunk and piss in your swimming pools". People reading this may or may not be aware that British comedian Bill Bailey has (for the second time) offered to write and perform next year's UK entry. Now that immediately sounds a bit Dustin the Turkey, but he's actually a very good musician, and we COULD do well with him. :-) So ... hopefully that gives a little insight as to why British people have a "meh" attitude towards Eurovision these days - if we can't win, we'll get into a huff, take our ball, and go home to cry to mummy. And do you know what - every year I HOPE we lose. I was so pleased when we got nothing this year. I loved it! Have a nice day. :-)
@@neilonaniet People now complain about jury, but without them we would get back to Televote block voting....which still happened this year despite FInland being popular.
Sometimes I don’t even bother watching eurovision until the voting comes on. Used to be fairly easy, but quite fun to guess where the 12 pts went in the televote only era- it’s been quite difficult since they changed it up though!
@@josephdyson3737 Well to be fair it didn't change much since bloc voting is still happenning. Neighbors are still voting for each others, though the impact is loosen nowaday.
Smelly Cat Well, in meantime, Bogdanovic, Kalinic and Obradovic moved to Fenerbahce, after that I started seing more and more Turkish tourists in Belgrade. It's gonna be mental at F4 at Belgrade this year.

I think it's incredible to realize that you have to go all the way to Finland in 17th place to find a country that's NOT from Eastern Europe, and aside from the Big 4, you've only got Sweden and Ireland from the west in the entire final. So of course an Eastern European country was likely to win, no matter which bloc they belonged to. This doesn't happen every year, it's only that the songs from the West were just subpar to most people.

From Croatia and I'm so happy Serbia won. I will always cheer when an ex-yugo country wins. Although we aren't one country, you are my people and I love you all. Dont let the hate distract you from the fact that we are one and always will be.
I miss these graphics in eurovision. .. nowadays the graphic design hasn't been very interesting... squared flags and stuff here they have such an iconic feel
In reality, the winning song is a good song and it deserved to win. I don't understand how the Ukrainian song got so many votes, Belarus was excellent from that block. Otherwise, while Ukraine and Russia were in love, they always beat each other with votes and were always at the top of the table.
We try to teach our children to stop bullying at schools. And here we have a supposed to be socially responsible BBC journalist / commentator who is setting new standards in «Bullying». The perfect example of English Culture and Values???? He not only sets new standards for male chauvinism / but also sets a pathetic abyssmal display of racism. How can BBC even pay such a person??? The English say that the French are arrogant - at least they have style. There is absolute no style in anything the English do, not even in their arrogance.
I remember the Finland-Russia semifinal that André Pops was talking about, I was watching the game at my parents and in the overtime I got a major headache and had to go to rest for a while and I had no clue whatsoever about what was going on in the game until my sister screamed when Finland scored the overtime goal :D
