Am I the only one who likes the way that The Netherlands went trough the finals instead of Poland? (Don't get me wrong, I like the song from Poland but In my opinion it wasn't that good tonight. And Waylon rocked the stage. pure quality, REAL music).
Actually I'm really content with all the countries making it through this year and I love the fact that there were so many "surprise" qualifiers and less neighbour/diaspora voting
I thought Ukraine won the semi. It was my favorite performance. I was not very keen into Sweden's performance. For me, it's because I have no idea if he was actually singing the chorus. I couldn't tell. I don't understand why it's that high. Melovin's staging, wow, fierce.
My absolutely faves for tonight were Sweden, Australia and Slovenia voted for them many times (from Germany). Slovenia just slayed and convinced me that she must get a spot in the Final. Denmark was so epic and powerful.
My winner is Slovenia. The best vocal, the best dancing moves, the best performance. Lea is sexy, really attractive young woman. It is pleasure to see her so happy and funny on the stage. Clear winner. I have to admit that I am dissapointed that you are forwarding Moldova and Ukraine so much. Their performances do absolutely nothing for me. Sorry Ukraine and Moldova. Slovenia is unique this year. We have to award diversity.
I predicted 8 correctly and wanted Slovenia but was not sure. so glad. Serbia was a great surprise. lol both my semi favs Albania and Denmark were called at 8th 😋😋 Hungary was the best performance for me along with Moldova
The Netherlands is my big winner of this semi-final! What a performance, and what a SONG! Sweden was also a very big surprise, but still Netherlands, very impressed!
Hungary and Slovenia are my favorites, yet Australia is the best performance for me. Her voice was on point and the build up and the flickering lights just added to it.
The greatest thing to me was the audience actually really getting behind Hungary. Who would've thought people who usually only seem to like dance music and dramatic ballads would get so into a heavy metal song? That was awesome.
MrMike855 metal Will lift any feet from the ground if not for the quality of the song it's for the sound waves thunder that metal music produces... Kidding 🤣 the song was great! My son was going crazy in the living Room, clearly it was his favourite! 🤘😎🤘
My dad who turns 60 this year, who never votes at esc and who loves rock music, called me and told me to vote only for Hungary. Had to explain to him we don't vote in this semi. Metal for life I guess!
Malta was robbed from a spot just like Greta Salome was robbed in 2016. Christabelle did such a good job with the song and the staging, just the overall performance. It's such a shame she didn't make it to the grand final. She really deserved it.
GeniusMashups Altough i did not like Malta's song this year, i can see why many love it. But i still can't forget, why was Greta Salome eliminated in 2016. :(
krison0225 I think Greta was eliminated because she started just a few moments after Sergey Lazarev. People were blown away by Sergey's LED wall and thought "Wow, dat is amazing, so creative and innovative". And then when Greta came, it just looked like a copycat who's trying to do the same thing. Sergey already snatched the wow moments away from her.
Nutzername92a it’s really such a shame. Her’s was really creative though as well. There were songs that weren’t good that went through to the finals so it’s upsetting that a performance like hers was put off to the side, in a way (there’s probably a better way to say that).
What William said about Moldova becoming the dark horse for the Final is very accurate actually. Of course they won't do as well as Sunstroke last year but they could very well be like Romania last year, capitalising on the niche, quirky nature of their performance
Hungary was my winner tonight. Australia and Norway was a big disappointment for me. All in all this semi was underwhelming. I'm really sorry that we've lost so great song from semi 1. I think the biggest battle at the finale will be among Bulgaria, Estonia and Hungary, because all of the pop catchy songs with sexy girls and handsome guys will split the vote.
My winner of semi2 was Hungary. Its SO different, and its SO passionate. Love or hate metal, I have to respect them for not only bringing metal back to ESC but also singing it in their native language. Denmark is also super strong for me but it started slightly flat. Once the first night jitters are out I think they'll be fine. Ukraine also he's a force to be reckoned with and I'm really loving the coffin staging. I would have liked some more fire but maybe they're holding that until the finals? I can only hope because Melovin is my favourite to win.
Yah I was wondering if the stairs placement had something to do with why he didnt have the under piano fire. And I'll assume that they cant do a fire piano because the piano is a coffin and has all of the machinery for the mechanism that lifts him out of the coffin and cannot also hold a fire rig to have the piano itself on fire. Its a small point for me really because DAMN he's a handsome man and that song is more fire (for me) than Fuego.
I'm not even from Ukraine and I'm trying to make a Ukranian dish for my Finals party. I've never tried something like this. Melovin has inspired culinary greatness even!
I'm in America too but I love ESC so much. I try to do something from my favourite countries with the person who I want to win gets the main dish and the other countries get side dishes, snacks or desserts. Now knowing Melovin is a great cook, now I know I picked right!
I think Hungary won this semi-final! To me it was the most powerful performance tonight!Probably Ukraine and Moldova were Top 3 here as well. I want to say Denmark is top 5 as well since it's a personal favourite of mine but not sure :D I think with Malta they needed to put more accent on her vocals- not to say they were bad, by no means, but I feel like her voice needed to stand out more- there was no peak and it did sound a bit monotonous, although a very respectable message! Romania's entry this year, although a beautiful song, is a huge step backwards as compared to last year's ''Yodel it'' which (If I remember correctly) fiished Top 5 at Grand Final.
best performances were hungary, Ukraine, Slovenia, Serbia, one of the poorest of to get through was Australia I suspect the juries saved her, malta and Poland were also poor and didn't deserve to get to the final,
Even though the act of Waylon is not perfect, but if you really look at the quality of the song, Waylon should win a lot. If only Americans determine the result, Waylon will win. His singing would have been in the Dukes of Hazzard. Think the rest in America does not stand a chance! But well who will win is very difficult!
Emma Emma i find it strange they don’t talk about him, I watched jury preview of today and they were discussing the acts for minutes and Ukraine only for couple of seconds
I also see that a lot on television they talk all about the "favourites" by the bookies so if your not high up with the bookies nobody talks about you. ( I don't get it)
I think they are a little bit disappointed. At the national final Mélovin was so stunning, William could’ stop talking about him. Now Mélovin is even not himself, he is Dracula, and he is in the coffin, and it is not clear for me why it went that way. Actually I was a little bit worried for him not going through.
I think Ukraine won this semi. Wasn’t my favorite song by a long shot, but the whole performance, I definitely got it. And with the whole “Moldova gets the Russia votes” thing… wouldn’t it be reasonable to think that Rybak may get a lot of that as well? Certainly worked in ‘09, after all.
I am sooooo happy for Slovenia and really sad about Romania, I think Romania slayed with the song, the vocals and the staging. It was all put together amazing. Unfortunately my vote for Romania was not enough, glad that I helped Slovenia getting trough tho Love from the Netherlands ♥
Poland was a disaster for me. Also the snippet that they showed during voting had him completely missing one of the high notes in it. The guy with the weird hand motions didnt help.
Deban, you can not imagine how much i love you. i’m watching wiwiblogs only cuz of your comments and reactions for any country. Peace from Baku and light your fire.
I've guessed 8 countries on this semi. And, when hosts were about to say the last country, I was repeating: Netherlands, Waylon... and he did slay to the final. But, I'm also very sad for Malta, really strong performance.
Georgia!! You had 1 job! You were our only hope!!! Ahhh Vraaaaaaastaaaaannnn!! But really, I'm absolutely shook about the complete Caucasus washout. Caucasus crash? Caucasus collapse? Plus, I feel so bad about Julia. She was obviously not into this performance, and she even seemed like she was crying by the end. Shame on the Russian delegation...
As a GOT & Vikings fan with a general love for our scandinavian neighbours i'm so happy that Denmark won 💖 I prob went overboard with the voting lmao but who cares. He wore a lot of Make up though, it's really not necessary ✨his natural beauty slays equally well as the song~
How u can be suprised that poland didn't make it? The song is okay but the vocals are horrible. If u like it or not but there was only one really good vocalist and that was Waylon from the Netherlands. The others were horrible, flat or fine.
Christabelle deserved it so much !!! I'm really sad for her. Same thing for Laura. What a shock for Russia but at the same time, it makes sense. Overall, I feel Melovin was the best tonight. He probably won this semi.
It's 2016 all over again for Malta and Poland. In 2016,in the final,Malta was high with the juries and low with the televote and Poland,on the other hand was High with televotes and low with juries. This year, same story but in the semi finals, and both countries are out of the final
What a cumulation of surprising non-qualifiers this year! It's really exciting when it's not that predictable. Maybe the new voting system for jury makes a difference, don't you think?
I learned a long time ago to not really give a damn about which country a song is representing - for me it will always come down to the song and only the song but I know that others are biased for or against certain countries. I admit I have my biased when it comes to genres and especially certain ones but I try to look at each entry just as it is and to try early on especially to ignore what the competion. At first the my main question is plain: Do I like the song? What is it's strong points? That usually helps me keep my head clear.
Exactly, as an Australian, that is exactly how we all feel about the competition. I know there are many countries who don’t like us in Eurovision, but when we vote, we vote for the song as we have no political ties to anyone. We vote for what we like. Tonight, I voted for Ukraine and Hungary. My (teenaged) daughter voted for Sweden and says she will vote for Spain, Bulgaria and Czech Republic in final.
And let's talk about how underserved Australia's qualification is... The performance was a mess, the voice wasn't what it should have been, the staging dissapointing, the dress unflattering, the camera angles poor etc... I'm curious if we have another 2017 situation, with a huge difference between juries and televote
Gotta say, this year is the Fall of the Titans--Azerbaijan, Romania, and Russia are out for the very first time, Greece and Armenia are other heavy players out on their second non-qualification. Belgium and Poland's comeback momentum has been stalled. The Underdogs have really risen this year--Albania, Ireland, Lithuania, Slovenia, Finland, Estonia.
Wow! How can you not mention Denmark at ALL in this video. Did you not hear the response from the audience in the arena? Based on that I would say Rasmussen was at least in top 3 in this semifinal. I think he will do much better than people expect on saturday.
ESC Denmark I mainly have respect for her still making it through her song despite the clearly noticeable vocal strain setting in. There was rasp and distortion in her voice throughout the whole song and she shouted her way through. I hope she was better yesterday with the juries, like Isaiah last year, otherwise I wouldn't call this final-worthy.
Sam Galea I know, I just listened to it again two seconds ago. The raspiness starts around the second chorus, the beginning is fine. And then she goes on to "scream in key" for the rest of the song.
I am australian but I dont like Jessica's song, very generic, nothing special. I personally thing Australia always will go through just because it's Australia. I would like Canada and USA to participate in Eurovision
Dita Svaldenyte USA will never participate in Eurovision. Last year only 52,000 people watched the final in USA. Compare that to 500k watching the final live at 5 am in Australia . That's really shameful as our country has 14x less the population of the USA. Not to mention that we have been showing Eurovision for over 30 years and it's really popular here.
I got 7/10. I do feel Romania's song and performance should had qualified. I didnt give enough concentration earlier to Slovenia ( and should have) , I felt there were stronger than Australia. Sorry, she is a good performer. I still dont understand why Australia is even in the competition. I also enjoyed Poland and Latvia at 10. I truly enjoy the element of surprise. Indeed each semi final voting gave us this, this year. Looking forward to the Final.
Romania had good staging, voice, performance! And the song was pretty good; as Deban said before, it comes alive on the scene! Feel so sad for Romania especially (but also for Greece, Poland and Russia for not qualifying to the finals) .. Happy for Moldova though!.
I got 8 out of 10 correct! The only two I didn’t have in the qualifiers were Latvia & Serbia, (even though I love the Serbian song) I just felt they didn’t have that spark and that atmosphere of the studio version. But I’m so happy they made it through. Ps: I don’t think I’ve ever seen Deban so distraught! Poor mite!
Sooo happy Jessica got through. She started off wobbly due to nerves, but really got going and started sounding and looking comfortable. Really hoping she smashes tomorrow (juries) and then Saturday. Please vote for her Europe! Love from UK
Before the show I had Poland qualifying since it's an uplifting song like the ones you hear on the radio, but the vocals on high notes were painful to listen to, no wonder they didn't qualify.
Haha Deban it's funny cos I usually find that if Dance you off was performed by another country people would love it more, but because it's from Sweden people feel some kind of vendetta against it
For me Sweden was playback it just was .... i believe in my eyes and in my ears and after watching Eurovision live at the arena I believe in myself only to judge... cameras journalists all tell a lot of lies believe in yourself in your eyes and ears and you soul to judge if you like Eurovision and vote for the song that looks sound and make you feel good :)
I don't care if its from Sweden, from the first time I heard it and until now I still think is weak. The only thing that is pushing it through are the visuals.
fully agree with Deban on everything, except my heart doesn't bleed that much for Malta. Minute 4.03 is hilarious xD I love all these wiwibloggers. The difference between them and other eurovision bloggers is that they are really entertaining, commentators and comedians xD
Do you think that the surprises can be affected by the changes in the jury voting? I mean, the thing that makes the 12 points from every jury more affectable.
john persson lol, no. It was loud and different but it had a melody, even Pedro sings it all the time when it's a press conference. And it was a strong singing, not like Poland for example. Energetic performance and people liked it, these guys like it too, they just forgot about them in this video 🤗
john persson I'm not offended, but your way of thinking about it is wrong. There's a difference between bad music and your taste. Don't tell its bad because you don't like it. Just 6 minutes after they getting in final they got invited to the world's biggest metal festival... They almost cried on the press conference, they're already winning this :) so don't confuse your opinion with the official worth of their performance.
