I've seen this song about 100 times now and I STILL get emotional at the end ♥️♥️ The song is about Joost losing his parents at 12 and 13. He always watched Eurovision with his dad, and his dad also said that it's a world without borders/limits. He tried to make the best of it travelling all through Europe but the pain went with him everywhere. In the 2nd verse he talks about giving people money (therapy) but that didn't help either. The end part is about burning his grief so that he can move on with his life. The photo is a copy of a photo with him and his parents on vacation. Joost is a master in making something fun and catchy with a deeper layer. The music genre itself was very popular in NL in the 90s. In the clip there are many references to Dutch culture and celebrities. It's genius. I hope though that people listening to it for the first time can appreciate it for the catchy song that it is even without knowing the layers. Thank you for your nice reaction ♥️👍
He lost his father when he was 12, and his mother died when he was 13. When you read the text of the song carefully then you see his pain and nostalgia is hidden in it. His father gave lessons to refugees, so that is why he said to his son Joost, we live in a world without border, he give his wisdom to his son before he died. That is the reason the ending is so moving.
Thank you for taking this emotional rollercoaster. My recap: You can travel freely in a Europe w/o borders but the pain of the loss of loved ones travels with you. Follow your dreams and make the ones you love proud. Carry the memories with you but also their lessons. Joost is no joke he is a survivor right through the pain to party on the eurovision stage.
