I thought last year was pretty good, but this year is even better. I don't think any of the songs are bad this year, just a few mediocre ones. My top 5 is Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Lithuania, and the Netherlands. Honorable mentions for France, Norway, and Croatia.
Honestly, this year I don't know who's gonna win because 90% of the songs are so good Edit post 24 hrs: Guys, calm down hahah. This comment ended up being a warzone between fans.
Marina Satti gave a lot of interviews today and she said that the theme of the choreography is the cameraman following her throughout the song without cuts, edits and many visuals and she and her dancers won't be able to hide certain moments ie the handkerchief pulling. This is because she wanted the performance to feel more candid and not too "processed" in order to resemble the rawness and the randomness of the music video. She said every rehearsal has ended up looking different because of this component of the interaction with the camera man and the exposure to him. Which means that it is expected that a few moments will appear less technical, less perfect, more "real". Imo the real challenge though will be for the audience to pick up on that this was her intentional approach. Let's hope 🙏🎲🧿

i love the fact that the Netherlands didn't cut out the ending and decided to add subtitles. Most of the song's meaning is understandable without knowing Dutch, so it's great to actually know the deeper stuff even if it's your first time watching
Italy had to do it too! (And many other countries I guess) I love when Angelina sings acapella 'I die cause dying, makes the days more human, I live cause suffering, it's one of the biggest joys'.
Majority of the people watch ESC at home from TV and in many countries all the songs have subtitles available. For example here in Finland there are all the songs available subtitled in Finnish or Swedish or without any subtitles. It is sometimes interesting to see how they translated some wordplays that work only in the original language.
Excellent analyzes of Portugal's staging are already coming out. 8:15 Jan Bors's has one of them. In fact, 3 things were needed for this impressive result: bravery, rigor and genius. The final descending shot in which from the big cube it slides to iolanda+inner demons continues smoothly with the music. Brilliant.
Trends of this year (updated): - Geometry: circles, cubes, egg-shape - White outfits - Black outfits - Masked dancers - Shirtless male dancers - Bodysuits/catsuits - High-shoulder outfits - Dance breaks - Rock shaped props - Many loud/fast performances - Fire and/or gold - Futuristic outfits or/and stagings - Some performances rather for adult viewers
This stage is just huge...and it does not work with most of performances. A shot must be close, which then takes away from screen in the background and lights. If it is too far, then a performer is lost on the stage. I have always wondered how much do delegations know about the stage and its possibilities before they come, because year after year there are perogrmances which you can see that were imagined for a different stage.
The only information that I gathered from this video is that we are losing 11 good songs in the semis. The quality and variety is incredible. It is so much stronger than chart music.

I love Ireland's staging, they deserve to qualify and place well in the final. Ukraine hugely elevated the overall quality, it looks like a top 5 entry. Georgia deserves a spot in the final as well, she's giving it all. Greece could be a dark horse, top 10 for sure. Italy gives winner vibes.

My absolute faves this year are Italy, France, Croatia, Portugal and Switzerland (although I am not loving Swiss staging from what we have seen so far).

Personally, I didn’t see any extraordinary data in Joost Klein, but he attracted attention with his provocativeness, which is why his video was watched by a huge number of migrants. This is not my favorite, whose song is reminiscent of the simple compositions of the German Scooter.

South Europe: Greece,Spain,Italy and Portugal sing in their own languages this year! This has to be rewarded! (for those who can´t reda: I am refering only to south Europe,that all countries in the same year sing in their own language,this was last the case decades ago!)

But nearly everyone is good this year so it’s going to make voting very difficult 😅 The UK 🇬🇧, Portugal 🇵🇹, Ukraine 🇺🇦, Croatia 🇭🇷, Armenia 🇦🇲, Ireland 🇮🇪 & Slovenia 🇸🇮 are all killing it with staging and vocals too!
