Also fun fact: The reason why Israel can participate in Eurovision is because Palestine was part of the ebu just like other ex colonial countries lile Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, etc were. So technically, Palestine is the one who should be taking part.
I as a dutch person, am enraged at Joost's disqualification and EBU's decisions. And I know for sure we're not the ONLY 'disappointed' (to put it lightly) country.
as Dutchie, the booin to Martin was all for Joost, it wasall to stand up for us and support us, and due how loud it all was, the support became overwhelming, thank you all for your support
Norway: “There is no doubt that the reputation of the Eurovision Song Contest has been significantly damaged this year, and it is now crucial that the EBU quickly takes action. The EBU needs to stop blaming the delegations and artists for the scandals that surrounded Eurovision 2024, and acknowledge the core problem. They need to be more humble and take responsibility for the damage done. They should return to the office and start communicating with both the broadcasters, the general public and the fans. I believe everyone wants a constructive dialogue, and to find ways to bring the Eurovision Song Contest back on track. We owe it to the millions of people who believe in unity, diversity, peace, love and the celebration of life and music. We owe it to everyone!”
I can’t help to say that this is karma for the EBU for making Eurovision 2024 a shitshow. It’s even worse if you think about how the EBU unfairly disqualified Joost and how the juries were too biased on Switzerland…
This is what you get if you care more about the money than about the art. United by Music -> Divide by EBU Joost at least tried to unite people. But in my opinion the EBU screwed all participants in one way or the other. By protecting its fake ‘non political’ character, they meant protecting the money, not the fun. Replacing real sounds/experiences from the audience by fake onces. Not addressing all the complaints of the delegations seriously. Allowing intimidations in the bubble, allowing political lobbies without any consequence, terrible communication. Consequence: extremely odd voting results from public and jury. All participating countries seem disillusioned and confused. The only thing that still unites them is the feeling of being robbed. Divided by EBU. We already know by now that nothing will change. The audience is only allowed to applaud, the (stressed out) artist only to sing, the broadcasters only to pay, just like everyone who is televoting. United by Music, but without the experience of it. No thanks. RIP Eurovision Song Contest
@@Pippie5555 this has nothing to do with the lgbtq+ community. plus if you’re referring to nemo from switzerland, they’re non binary. that was just an ignorant comment tbh.
@@qwincard I don't mean to criticize. I meant to state that in most of the finals there were men on stage wearing womens clothes. Switzerland, Coatia, Spain, Ireland etc
Did anyone miss how Joost conveyed his love for travel over europe (face value of the song, I know the true meaning is much more broad). Eurovision started with Europe and it's people with a unified love for music and songs. This is basically desame as the EBU saying fuck you Europe (and accompanying countries) we make the rules!
Why would you ban Israel? A country which had 4000 soldiers invade and rape their people on the 7th October and the conflict in Gaza actually has some of the lowest collateral civilian casualties...sounds strange but is true)
The EBU should be joined of all private or commercial services media broadcasting for each country if EBU for the public service media from country was suspended by Eurovision contests.
The two MOs Martin Osterdahl and Moroccan Oil are good to go!! Eurovision is the big European union event and we don't want them to ruin our party anymore!!
The crowd was booing the EBU for its lack of action and seemingly massively playing favourites with Israel, through the original controversy and the Israeli group and fans being aggressive and harrasing others. Martin also was the one making the decisions on Joost getting kicked out for responding to a member of the Israeli group harassing him
What does he have to do with anything? The disqualification of the Netherlands was unanimously decided by the reference group, which is a committee of elected broadcasters. In other words, all broadcasters which know what happened on the floor agreed with the disqualification. That says enough for me.
England? How, why the Land with the best music in the World sends worse and worse Songs every year? This years' Song was only gay on stage. No Song, no Meiningen, bad voice..it was just couple of guys dancing very sexual
@@britvicaIt was fairly good and better than some of the other entries but still somehow a bit "bland". I wasn't too big of a fan of the thrusting either. I'm saying since years that the UK should just get One Direction (with or without Zayn Malik) to compete for them. They can write their own song (they're good songwriters but also have contacts to big people in the industry like Oasis) and know good composers, so the UK could compete for once with a really great song (I would make it more rock than pop - similar to the sound of their last two albums, Harry Styles' "Kiwi" and Louis Tomlinson's recent songs from his album "Faith In The Future"). They have a strong fan base as a group and even as individual artists, so that would be a couple million votes you'd already instantly have in your pocket. They wouldn't even need dancers (who would just unnecessarily distract from the song either way) or any fancy staging. I'm sure Harry Styles would have an amazing outfit ready for the show in a couple of weeks (and he surely knows what would appeal to the queer audience) and could get the other guys to wear something that wouldn't clash with it. Just ask (or beg!) them to do it and offer to give any money for their performance(s) to charities of their choice and they quite likely would say yes! It would be THE comeback of the century. I'd genuinely be surprised if the UK wouldn't be at least in the top 5 if not win the contest. The puns the moderators and commentators could make would even write themselves. What more could you ask for?! Stop sending "bland" performances of songs that don't draw people in with too much distractions on stage. Focus on the song and the singing. You guys don't need a fancy stage or anything expensive. Send a good singer with a really good song and you'll get the votes. I still don't understand why the UK doesn't hold a casting for the ESC. It clearly doesn't work for the UK how it is right now. It definitely would be worth to host one and see if that makes a difference at the ESC. In my opinion it probably would.
Yeah, we know now that the decision to disqualify was made by all broadcasters that are part of the reference group (the body that is responsible for organising the show). Only the broadcasters that aren't in this reference group and thus have no idea what happened did not support the disqualification.
This is not in keeping with the contest but then again nothing this year was. Now we know that the Norwegian entry did indeed threaten a camera operator and a camera was broken. Martin Österdahl do nothing wrong.
She violated the agreement and filmed without consent, repeatedly ignoring his warnings/pleads to stop. Lastly, he just pushed the camera/phone/whatever down, and he's neurodivergent to boot. Disqualifying him was a massive dick move, when all the circumstances are taken into consideration, and quite frankly it was wrong. There was no intimidation or anything, it was just self-defence/retaliation or enforcing of his previously given rights/agreement.
Martin is the face of the EBU. This means he has the ability to condemn things that happen at Eurovision and encourage changes. Israel being in the competition this year was controversial, let alone their behavior to fans, artists, and other contigents. Israel should have been kicked out, not Joost for being harrased and responding appropriately.
@@purp4168 you just have to understand Israel is above everyone else. Martin is not going to critisize Israel because then he is an anti semite and will lose his job. in other words EBU is just a way to white wash Israel and it's crimes against humanity
The EBU allowed Israel to participate, supposedly because the ESC is not about politics. However, they banned Russia from the contest following the invasion of Ukraine for purely political reasons. (And despite its name, the ESC's main sponsor Moroccan Oil is an Israeli company.) They also disqualified the Dutch contestant, Joost Klein, (who was a frontrunner) on the day of the grand finale, supposedly because he "threatened" a camerawoman. However, reports have since emerged that said camerawoman had filmed him backstage despite an agreement that he would not be filmed backstage and despite his repeated requests that she stop filming. He then appearently made a "threatening movement" towards the camera and the camerawoman thought he was threatening her (even though she was the one harassing him by filming). Nevertheless, the EBU decided to disqualify him over the incident and many people think that that was unjustified and disproportionate.
@@ok-vk9fv Being critical of Israel's actions isn't the same as supporting Hamas. Believe it or not, it is possible for one person to condemn both the October 7th attacks and the IDF's gross misconduct in Gaza.
Ha ha a week later and still not clear what happened but punishment given and for what????? But on the otherside Netherlands should not participate in this strange thing anyway !
I think the disqualification has to do with the fact he was before Israel so to confuse the voters. They wanted Croatia first and put it in the best spot while the top competitors like Ukraine and Israel at the beginning. Jury votes need to be reduced to 30% or 40%
Don't know but the juries this year feel as rigged as in 2023 as if a winner was decided in a smoke filled room. Last year they wanted Sweden to win to prevent Finland from winning. This year they wanted to prevent Croatia, Israel or Ukraine from winning. Semi results are known before the jury shows. They knew that they can't prop someone up who will flop the televote so Switzerland was the most convenient. France is big 5 so it's televote couldn't be forecast.
Nah, we have quite a bit of information now. If we combine the EBU, Swedish police, and Dutch delegation statements, we know the following: 1. There was a prior incident for which the Netherlands was warned. 2. The incident was severe enough police was called to the scene. 3. The Dutch delegation claims there was simply a "gesture" towards an employee of the EBU. The EBU released a (late) statement saying this is not true and a misrepresentation of the facts. 4. The national broadcasters in the organising committee which actually know what happened voted unanimously to disqualify the Netherlands. Only the delegations which do not know what happened protested. 5. Swedish police forwarded the case to the prosecutor's office, and later released an additional statement saying they deem it likely charges will follow since the evidence is very clear. There is some misinformation about that trying to link this case to Israel, but none of the three parties agree with Israel having anything to do with it. Sadly this myth is also being pushed by some of the popular performers.
He might have learned English in Ireland. We are now the only English as first language speaking country in the EU now that UK has gone so Irish phrases and accent may be more useful and in fashion...similarly a Danish Prime Mjnster said a "cap on gas would be grand" in relation to Russian gas...you're Irish phrasing. But for the record I don't think he sounds Irish (as an Irish person)
This year the juries decided to fail all the singers who performed with male and female dancers. It was enough to say before that they are not needed, and many participating nations such as Italy, Israel, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Austria, Ireland, Georgia, Greece, Cyprus, Spain, Portugal would not have done so much training for the dance rehearsals and I would not have spent so much money unnecessarily for choreography and scenography!
EBU needs to change some rules. Judge need to give points to best singer, best song. They don't give points to Eden Golan because she representing at ISRAEL
God! Do you have NOTHING more important to report on?!? British people are FORCED to pay for the BBC and THIS is what they spend that money on!?! Pitiful! And all the more pitiful if you think this is newsworthy because it means you’ve got nothing more important to worry about!
@@Luna-Eclypse Ohh! Sarcasm! How very passive-aggressive. Exactly what I’d expect from someone who wastes their time watching a pathetic concocted drama that features misfits from across the world.
I dont think Eurovision would disqualify Joost for nothing. Why he did not like this woman to film him? Media has freedom to do so. Now, imagine if this would be a singer from Azerbaijan, Israel, Georgia or any other East European country, nobody would question the action of EBU.
Yeah, and to be honest the fact the EBU disputes the Dutch testimony, the fact that all broadcasters in the organising committee (which know what happened) unanimously agree with the EBU decision, and the fact the Swedish police says there is sufficient evidence and they expect the prosecutor to press charges, tells me enough. It is a bit silly that most people think this disqualification was unfair, but as their only source list the statement released by the Dutch delegation. Of course the Dutch delegation is going to say it is unfair and downplay the facts. The EBU was very clumsy in its communication this year though. Not sure what they could've done better, as I do not think they should've just thrown out the entire case into the court of the public opinion either, but their complete silence doesn't seem to have been ideal either.
@@JBinero I second your thought and agree with you on everything. Most likely, the only reason why the EBU did not openly go against Joost by openly showing all the evidence is because possibly the EBU wanted to protect him after his "silly" "emotional" action against that woman. After all, showing to all how you insult a woman can ruin your reputation, end his career and he would be mem in IG and TikTok. However, the Dutch delegation turned this good gesture of the EBU against the EBU in order to protect the reputation of their own delegation. Thus, I dont think that the EBU did anything wrong.
@@JBinero yes, this is also possible. I dont understand thousands of posts against the EBU. They did everything correct to protect both Joost and the woman....
