The 2018 Eurovision Song Contest took place in Portugal's capital city, Lisbon. It was the first time Portugal hosted the competition. The right to host the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest came after Salvador Sobral won the 2017 edition in Kyiv with his song Amar Pelos Dois.
Initially, 42 countries were announced to compete in the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest. Shortly after the announcement, North Macedonia was added to the list of participants, bringing the total number of acts to 43. Lisbon was announced as Host City in July 2017 following a competitive city bid process. The Lisbon Arena, located at the capital city's seashore, hosted the contest, which took place on Portuguese soil for the first time ever.

Finally the first real 50fps upload. It changes everything, 25fps is c*** for a show like Eurovision with so many lighting effects. Also a more dynamic sound. All grand finals should be reuploaded that way.

(Even though imo they should give us at least one chance to watch EVERY contest in good quality, it's not like the older ones are being sold anyway) But from the way they ask questions on twitter it makes you think they already got their hands on older stuff and have the possibility to show it, so why focus on shows that have happened pretty much yesterday on the ESC timeline :"

Well.... thanks, but this is already available. Both on RU-vid, and commercially on DVD. We'd REALLY love it if you could continue working with the national broadcasters to make available the pre-2004 Contests. I'm hoping that you haven't stopped doing this, and the only reason you're showing 2018 today is because you're still working on releasing more of the historic shows :)

@@Taevas___ Maybe - but it's still a higher priority to release older Contests of which we fans have never had access to any studio copy at all. Most of us only have 10th-generation recordings from dodgy VHS tapes: all grainy, with onscreen logos and commentary talking over the songs. Take 1974 for example: it was a massive blessing for the EBU to finally release a pristine version, with great picture quality and no commentary. We need to see more of this. It's much more valuable than simply a 50fps version of a Contest where we have a pretty-much pristine version already.

Songs were good but Portugal didnt do a great job IMO, stage was empty and boring, hosts were absolutely dreadful and the opening flag parade was totally inappropriate soundwise

@@mikestagramming2989 I respect your opinion, but Filomena did a magnific job! She was one best hosts of Eurovision (only Mans and Petra were better). Btw the broadcaster RTP tried to not use LedWalls to make a challenge for the team and the countries. The flag parade was great it need more rythm, but i agree that the first act was kind of boring because Fado has not to much rythm and the language don't help. In terms of songs i think 2018 is the best, but in terms of show (flag parade, interval acts and stage) 2019 is the best.

So many stage elements combined, just because there wasn't a giant LED wall filling up the entire background you can't call it 'empty and boring' because that's a total misinterpretation of this stage. If anything this stage was huge and something completely different, with many lighting and stage elements all while running on very limited budget

This was the first Eurovision I ever watched live as it was airing, (as it was broadcasted in the US) this contest means a lot to me as a result. I even bought it on DVD. (Again because I’m from the US it only works on my old Mac’s DVD drive, but I have it nonetheless) I have to use my VPN to watch it here now, but I hope one day the geoblocking will end. Not all Americans are disrespectful to the contest. Some of us, like me, love the contest to bits.

2016 was the best show but wasn't the strongest year for songs compared to 2018 as that year was wow. Then 2019 was also amazing and that might be why 2020 didn't seem like as strong as the past 2 years.

I think this was a really fresh year for Eurovision. Although correct winners or not, my opinion is that Music Wan. Of course I have my winners, but it's so emotional this evening.. Thanks Europe. And just to make sure, my winer is Julio Resende.. And Branco!

They just replaced it with the performance from the jury rehearsal. I actually think that if Surie was proud and content with the interrupted performance and declined to perform again, they should have kept the original live show the way it was and not replace it with the rehearsal.
