Hi Millie, I'm not surprised that you haven't heard of them, they were very big during the '80s both Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart have had solo careers since leaving the band, songs by them which I recommend are: "Love is a Stranger", "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)", "There Must be an Angel (Playing With My Heart)", "Who's That Girl?", "Would I Lie to You?", "When Tomorrow Comes", "Thorn in My Side", You Have Placed a Chill in My Heart", "It's Alright (Baby's Coming Back)", "Sex Crime (1984)", "The Miracle of Love", "Sisters Are Doin' it for Themselves", "Angel". There are many more but these are good ones to continue with.

@@assuredaviation9116 That's a bit of a strange notion in my view, but I guess people like to "claim" bands for their countries. I'm sure when they once played City XY, they claimed XY had the best audience, so their an XY-ian band as well. ;) (They're British.)

@@fryke I get what you're saying but Dave (according to this website) was quoted as saying "That's where Annie and I decided to become a duo. It was in a place called Wagga Wagga". Wagga Wagga is a country town here in NSW. While the band/duo is Australian, the members are not.

@@assuredaviation9116 Your new information did not change the facts. If me (Swiss) and my Swiss friend decide to become a band in Waikiki, we still won't be a Hawaiian band. It's probably why you won't find "Australian band" connected to Eurythmics anywhere but in your comments. I agree that their previous band ended and they became a (British) duo in Australia.

I really think you should award yourself and listen to the studio/original video version too. It is a masterpiece of cerebral 1980s synthpop with one of the best and most iconic synth-basslines ever composed under the sampled string tracks played on the legendary (and insanely expensive) Fairlight CMI (Computer Musical Instrument). It is a vibe even today.

Annie Lennox is one of the best singers in the UK, period. Her and Dave Stewart (the guitarist you see here) formed the Eurythmics in the early 1980s and had a string of hits before going on to very successful solo careers. You literally cannot go wrong with anything with Annie's name on it. My personal favorites are "Walking On Broken Glass", "No More I Love Yous" and "Cold". Walking On Broken Glass also has a WILD video with Hugh Laurie and John Malkovitch in it. Oh and I sympathise with the clicky bone Millie: I've had a clicky elbow ever since me and a motorbike landed on top of it nearly 30 years ago...❤

I’m an old Eurythmics fan. The songs that I like are often the ones that don’t quite make it to the big charts. A couple of examples are “Love is a Stranger” from the Sweet Dreams Album and “You have placed a Chill in my Heart” from the Savage Album. I also want to mention “Pavement Cracks” from Annie Lennox’s “Bare” Album and “Money Can’t Buy It” from her “Diva” Album.

Solo, Annie "Why", a brilliant cover of "Whiter Shade of Pale" and more Dave Stewart did a ton of production work - he won Best British Producer at the 1986, 1987 and 1990 Brit Awards. Worked with Ringo Starr, Stevie Nicks, Mick Jagger and Tom Petty. By all means, check out the live recording of "Lily was here" by Dave Steward and Candy Dulfur.

I left my home in Adelaide, South Australia on 11 Jan 1983 when I was 15 to join the army as an apprentice, 1,000 km away in Bonegilla, Victoria. I bought their second album 'Sweet Dreams' released in 1983. I played it most nights, it was so original, Annie's voice was superb and her androgynous personas made the film clips so intriguing.

@MillieMochiTunes - They got famous as pioneers/maestros of Electronic, new Wave, and the integration of video and audio. This was one of their earliest hits(check the studio version, it’s awesome) As primarily electronic musicians in their heyday, it’s often easy and understandable to forget just how accomplished they are as composers and performers. These acoustic shows are a beautiful reminder. If you don’t have enough suggestions from them, I will recommend “Don’t Ask Me Why”.

Look up Queen & David Bowie & Annie Lennox singing Under Pressure. Though Queen (with Freddie) recorded Under Pressure with Bowie, they never were able to perform the song together. After Freddie passed, the rest of Queen got together with Annie and David to perform the song. Also: Annie is an incredible performer and artist, well worth looking up more of her and of Eurythmics' stuff. Enjoy!

Many famous artists have referenced Annie Lennox as likely the best female singer of the modern generation--Not because she can hit every note dead-on or sing some fancy way but because no matter what she sings, you feel it, not just hear it. Remember also that when tunes like their biggest 'hit' "Sweet Dreams (are made of this)'"came out, it was all stylistically BRAND-NEW TERRITORY: No one had heard anything like it. Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart influenced the whole genre of rock with their works. They should definitely be part of anyone's music education.

To Millie, and anyone who may not have seen/heard these suggestions for Annie Lennox, if you haven't seen/heard the following, please indulge. One, I suggest you watch her performance from 3 years ago with London City Voices, called "Dido's Lament", which is so good it is not easy to describe with words. And two, there's the "Backwards/Forwards" mashup by DJ Earworm, something that was created as a retrospective of her solo career, done by someone so good at mashups (DJ Earworm, or just Earworm, not sure what he goes by at the moment) that he was commissioned to create something new, out of lots of different songs, and he was given free reign and permission to use whichever song of her solo career that he wanted to. It's just really worth watching/listening to.
