Before we get a chance to jump onto the Tesla Supercharger network with our Hyundai IONIQ 5 via a Tesla-to-CCS1 adapter, join us for a look at the reverse scenario: accessing the public CCS charging options in a Tesla Model Y.
In this video, we test a Tesla-to-CCS1 adapter provided courtesy of EV BASE, a company with a wide range of Tesla accessories (and items for other all-electric models). Take a look at their products via these links and use code "PPEV20" to snag 20% off anything that catches your eye:

The adapter has been specifically useful for my in-laws at their new home in northeastern North Carolina, where Superchargers are thin on the ground. Prior to adding home charging, they have been able to use some of the CCS1 infrastructure at dealerships to top off while exploring their new region.

I drive through a lot of Tesla SC dead spots cross country rural areas. There are some DCFC CCS chargers sporadically and typically the 50kw to 62kw variety. Having the CCS to NACS adapter is going to be mandatory equipment. I decided this week to make the switch from the Bolt to a M3 and the first thing I did was order the CCS to NACS adapter. I will be road tripping in a couple of weeks and going to put it to use.

Nivion’s adapters are built to last. I got mine from Amazon and it’s excellent!

I charged at the Hyundai CPE in Elizabeth City too while on a road trip to the OBX. Nice people at that dealership. Thanks for the video. I enjoyed watching.

I'm looking forward to visiting when I finally head down that way in the Ioniq 5. Should fit in nicely and perhaps check out an Ioniq 6 while charging :-)

Nice that the Model Y volunteers the info about battery temp being on the low side! Is this MY a standard range RWD with LFP? Or other config with NMC? Thank you for code access. Will go look at their products!

Thanks! Yes, Tesla has dialed in the driver communication pretty well on pack temp, charging times, and other useful info. This is the LR AWD model with NMC pack.

That's definitely the real beast mode cable. These ChargePoint Express units always have the heaviest CCS1 handles I've encountered, though.

Thanks, Steve! I think these adapters are going to be a much bigger deal when non-Tesla automakers start producing J3400 EVs. There's still a good number of Superchargers that, so far, are not slated to open to non-Tesla EVs, and many of those locations just so happen to be in the areas where Supercharger coverages is the most sparse. With the tens of thousands of CCS1 chargers already installed, those EV owners are going to need these adapters far more than the average Tesla owner.

We have one as a backup in our Model Y. CCS is really hit or miss. Sometimes it works great.

Yeah, with the right planning and sense checking, CCS is a true cross country option. Just have to filter out the bad options, which is where Tesla has done so well to date, having 99+% of the Supercharger network up and running reliably for users.

Just in the past few months, Ford dealers have gone from basically nothing to one of the most useful places for me to charge. I’m often off the beaten path, so even lacking amenities I’ve used Ford dealers twice recently to top up the Bolt EUV

Interesting that is a widespread development, because New England definitely has a few useful locations too. One in central Mass is arguably better than the first EA site, as it's less well known and has better facilities during business hours. Then there are those that bring 100kW+ DCFC to areas that only previously had only 25-50kW... or nothing at all. Not to say they'd be my first choice, but of all the dealer options, Ford currently has the most compelling.
