Is V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) sufficient for pulling battery pack power during an EV camping trip? Or perhaps a dedicated, portable power station with similar output would bring more flexibility to your outdoors EV adventures?
These are some of the questions we ponder in this first look at the VTOMAN Flashspeed 1500 power station, which we're hoping to put to the test alongside our J+ BOOSTER 2 portable charge cord this summer (review of the J+ charger here: • This is the Best Porta... ).
Check out the tests, from charging simple mobile devices to providing your morning cup of Joe with our trusty travel kettle. Then take a look at the various iterations and pricing on the Flashspeed 1500, which changes price frequently but can be snagged for less during the current Father's Day sale or using the code provided below:

What else should we charge with this versatile unit from VTOMAN when we hit the road this spring/summer? Let us know in the comments or email plugandplayev@gmail.com with your suggestions!

What should we charge with the Flashspeed 1500 when we hit the road this summer? Drop suggestions below! Product links: Amazon - www.amazon.com/dp/B0C8T2C8DB/ (deals will vary) or via the VTOMAN Website (enter code "LUS2OLB2" at checkout for a Plug & Play EV viewer discount] -- bit.ly/44GDDFS Note: I referred to 75kWh for the IONIQ 5 battery pack but the exact number is 77.4 kWh. However, V2L shuts off at 20%, so not all of that capacity is available for powering other items.

Thanks for the review, Steve! Lots of these options starting to hit the market. I like to have redundancy for things like this, so it's good that you can also use your Ioniq 5's power.

Right, that much larger pack gives a lot of redundancy if we arrive at a high state of charge and have a plan for charging the next day. I'm intrigued to see which works better at different campsites and in different use cases...if it moves from interesting addition to essential item, I'll have a new front of battery-related reviews to explore :-)

For me, the ability to make coffee fast would be the most important. ✅

One thought. Many remote sites don’t have electricity. This too could be used as an overnight range extension of 1.5 kWh if u plug the car into it to charge. Thx 4 the video. I enjoyed watching

Thanks Walter, trying to charge the car wasn't one I considered for this but in a pinch it could be an option. Very limited with probably under 10 miles added but it could possibly help in an emergency. I'm thinking the additional weight and lost space will end up making it almost a wash when used solely as a car charging backup, though.

Steve, the specs sounded quite decent. The USB-C supporting up to 100 W per report. Will let you charge a laptop, very nice. I was excited up until you read the supporting resistive loads. At first, I was afraid it meant it was not a pure sign wave, but I see that it is with further research. The resistive load comment is simply because it can’t deal with a lot of Serge current from motors. I was hoping to be able to use it within an induction cooktop, but I think that would be problematic. What devices have you used the AC output on?

I used an induction cooker on our big trip with no issues, mostly plugged into this unit. It goes up to 1300 W, if I recall correctly, but we found 800-900 W max was more than enough to hear evenly. I've also used corded garden tools (mower and hedge trimmer) with it, but I don't recall their power draw off the top of my head.

I’ll be interested to see how you use this in your upcoming travels. We’re on the road and camping soon for about a week and a half and I haven’t really planned for device charging other than a small inverter that plugs into the 12v and what’s built into the Y. I’m wondering if it’s going to be enough. I tend to overpack gear so it may be a lot of juggling chargers.

Thanks Brian, I'm ready and engaged to see how you fare this summer as well! While the Ioniq 5's V2L has definitely been useful, it's restricted to the trunk area or rear seats unless you start to have extension cords trailing around the campsite. A power station might help to spread the load and also add some in-tent options, depending how we set up camp. It will be fun to experiment for sure. Thanks for watching and commenting.
