The new orchestral Eva Cassidy album I CAN ONLY BE ME is released 3rd March 2023 evacassidy.lnk... Restored footage of Eva Cassidy performing Bridge Over Troubled Water at the Blues Alley jazz club on 3rd January 1996.
I went to high school with her. Really didn't know her that well. I knew her father. He was a sculptor, cellist, and in his time one of the strongest men in the world. But I know people that were close to her and nobody has anything bad to say about her. She was an exceedingly kind person.
I was introduced to Evas beautiful voice in my 20's im now 61 and love her as much as i did when i first heard her,i remember that day clearly..thankyou Eva
For me she is the best female singer of all time. I know there are soul queens and R&B stars, even going back to blues era with Etta, but Eva is haunting .. it’s beautiful and haunting. Best voice I’ve ever heard
It's worth remembering that Eva had a slight cold when this was recorded, and was reluctant for it to be released because she thought she wasn't sounding her best. So this is Eva's voice not at 100%. And it's still incredible!
Almost 25 years ago Eva went to Heaven. Without a doubt she was the best female Singer to ever walk the face of the earth. And a good Guitarist as well. I still love what she did and I always will. RIP and sing with the Angels
Hard to believe its been nearly 27 years since she died. A mere 10 months after this nights performance. What a gift to the world she was and continues to be.
A precious gift to the world that God gave us. Surely. She is absolutely one of the best voices I have ever heard in my life. Flawless and incomparable. She’s got to be with God in Paradise. What a light in this world. Thank you Eva.♥️
Her music saved me in college, and now nearly two decades later, during a long dark period, she’s saving me again. I hope to one day speak to her on the other side and thank her and listen to her sing live. That legit would be heaven, to me. 💛
March 2024. Still listening to Eva. ,and will always. Such an inspiration, incredible person, with such an evocative, emo singing style. Timeless and beautiful.
I think this may have been one of the best singers of the last century...and like so many geniuses, she was taken too soon. I discovered only this week -- better late than never. What a gift to humanity.
i havnt seen or heard the word humanity for so long. thanks sarah RIP EVA..i havnt known of her that long either but she would have gone all the way to the top and beyond thats for sure..
Just heard one of my favorites ...Kelly Clarkson acknowledge Eva and sang her version of Bridge over troubled waters... So I had to find Eva and I am sooo glad I did... wow lovely...
@@estellegriffiths5118 Yea, Her what? 4-6 octave Blues phrasing was so rare that it wasn't quite understood along with her integrity. Angelic,,,,,,,literally!
And she maintains that pitch, control, and volume while venturing far afield and taking HUGE chances with the phrasing and timing. She almost never fails to make it back cleanly.
Not only was she a technically talented singer - seamlessly transitioning from belting in her powerful full voice to a soft and sensitive head voice - but she was also a gifted interpreter of a song. So much texture and emotion. Just amazing.
I am always critical on any performance. Live, in the studio... anytime. Trying to inspire the artist to become better. Looking for technical improvement... and in the evening I just sit back and enjoy Eva. The ultimate musical perfection. Thank you Eva for your dedication. We will keep on enjoying your talent and try to become half of it.
I never dreamed I would like anyone else"s version of this classic song. Eva is one of those very, very rare artists who can find a song they like and envision it in a totally unique way until it becomes their own ! This cover blew me away. She is such a treasure and I am so thankful that her friends insisted on capturing some of her work so we will have it to enjoy forever. A shining star in our universe 🌠❣
Why am I just discovering this wonder? So powerful and beautiful. I'm always amazed by how much talent there is in the world and how we all will only encounter a small slice of it.
After the guitar break, from 3:40 on - she just totally changes the dynamics of the song into a blues run. It's just so fascinating. It's an angelic version of Joplin.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who heard this in her voice. She was like Janis, only a little smoother and staying at home in the upper register. Beautiful and fiery. It's a damned shame she didn't live longer. The songbirds colors had to bless heaven again I guess. I'm jealous.

In the new documentary, her bandmates said she didn't want to play guitar in the band - she just wanted to sing. They encouraged her and she learned super quickly.

There are quite a few cds of her songs, compilations of all the genres she loved and shared. Love every one. The cds are on ebay, Amazon, and likely other sources. Her family published some of them. Love that youtube has so many videos of her singing and playing and the duets.
Jesus is my Bridge over troubled waters. Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble of heart and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light”. I am heartened that Eva in her life recorded gospel songs so I pray in her trials and suffering she relied on The Lord for her strength. RIP Eva.
I can't believe I have never heard of her until today. i was curious how she died. i have been watching videos all day. She had a mole on her back that was cancer. She did not get it checked out for 6 months and it spread internally. wow. so sad. She never had a chance to be a star. but we have you tube!!
I was introduced to her artistry after she had passed many years prior…. Her voice and phrasing is outer worldly… I am so grateful that someone suggested her to me…. Now…. Not too many days go by when I don’t listen to Eva…yes…. One of the very best voices…
What a fantastic voice and talent... A year younger than me but had a talent sooo much older and greater than anything I have . tears come to my eyes every time I listen to anything from this performance...
I know she’s in heaven singing with the other angels! Thank you EC for sharing your gift with us. You were truly an amazing talent that left us way too soon. You are greatly missed. 💙
Eva Cassidy you were an exceptionally creative song stylist. Through your music, you shared so much passion, emotion, uniqueness & added so much value to the world. What a phenomenon & an inspiration of the highest order. Thank you dearest Eva Cassidy. ❤️🎤💕🎸❤️🎤💕🎸❤️🎤💕🎸❤️🎤💕🎸❤️🎤💕
ABSOLUTELY Amazing voice, my first time hearing this beautiful soul sing. My Dad passed in November, this was our song. He was my bridge. Eva gave this song the justice it deserves
Eva's voice alone is pure class, but she goes way beyond that with her playing skills and putting it all together to make it stunning, so you have to listen to her. She causes a reaction in your heart through her music
Wow! I’m just shaking. Tears are streaming down my cheeks. Eva is just taking you with her on a journey of pure feelings. She is so deep. So special. I’m so thankful to have this beauty in my life. Her gift is pure treasure. 🎺
The greatest artist in the world on a given night is probably in some bar with a band of brothers, with no plan B , giving 50 people everything he/she has
@@robertgarland805 She was a tiny little thing, and I heard she was quite shy. She preferred small venues and making albums. She was very much loved here (DC) and in the UK. Thanks to some influential fans, she can be heard all over the world now. Rip, Songbird. 🕊❤️
Her voice is healing me right now so many trials and tribulations going on right now for me...but listening to her healing, angelic voice I'm on my way. Eva Cassidy gone way too soon but her 🎼 will last forever ✨️
Something I've never understood about truly amazing singers - how do they belt out a gut wrenching tune like this and not fall apart blubbering in the middle of it? I think I know the answer - practice, practice, practice. I couldn't do it though (if I could sing, that is, lol). Eva just rips me wide open and my emotions come pouring out. She was truly amazing, and we all lost an incredible talent, most of us before we even knew who she was.
It is difficult to find words adequate to express how exquisitely talented Eva Cassidy was.... she touches my soul...she was a gift to us all in her all too brief life!
