Evan Stephens Hall of the band Pinegrove made a stop to play a show near River Market in Little Rock, AR and was cool enough to stop and talk to us. He discusses the question of ,"Why Aren't You Vegan Yet?" and offers his views on veganism, climate change, and Amazon. We discuss vegan DHA/EPA supplements. I was unfamiliar with Pinegrove before he stopped to talk to us. Check out the documentary Seaspiracy on Netflix to learn more about bycatch and why Dolphin Safe labeling is a lie. Video clips below. Uh-oh. Now we know Evan's public disguise. Next time Pinegrove's in town, be on the lookout for the skinny white guy dressed like a beekeeper from the neck up.

LOL. Really awesome you caught Evan on the streets, great convo! Kinda surprising he wasn't already vegan given the content of Pinegrove's latest project. He seems very receptive though & had a lot of solid things to say. Hopefully he not only continues on his path of making better food choices but also gives veganism another boost! Great work Colburn!! P.S. Did they play an acoustic Alaska for you?! 😲

Hey Quinn! The track I used was from a RU-vid video called "Alaska recorded in my apartment". I thought it sounded better than the other one I found which may or may or not have been the official song. He did invite us to the show and put us on the guest list which was really cool of him. I hope he goes vegan again too. That would inspire people who appreciate Pinegrove to make better choices for animals (including fish) and the climate :)

Thanks! Eating vegan is a great way to reduce one's environmental impact, not just in terms of carbon emissions, but freshwater pollution and plastic waste as well (especially with oceanic fish).

I listened to Then Again by accident this morning (had saved it possibly to use with another video) and I thought it was really good! Very friendly guy and humble to stop and talk to us. He was already looking for the local vegan restaurant, Blue Sage, and he ended up eating there. I'm glad he understands the value of choosing plant-based foods for the environment and sees the ethical value in sparing animal lives. Lots of intelligent people don't know DHA, EPA, and iodine can be obtained from plant-based foods. Those are really the only nutrients unique to fish over other animal products. With the exception of people with extremely rare genetic anomalies, our bodies can make the non-essential amino acids found in fish.

The best vegan Indian food I’ve ever had in my life was Star of India in Little Rock while I was there on a business trip. Going to see Pinegrove tomorrow in Orlando. My worlds collide!!

Hey Colburn might not see this as this video is old but... I am heading to LR over the Summer and was wondering what the vegan options are looking like over there. Also if there would be a way to get plugged into the vegan community there that would be rly cool. Thanks sm.

Hey Joseph :) Utopia Deli has vegan wings and philly cheese, desserts. Fye Vegan Chic has a loaded baked potato that was fantastic. Then there's House of Mental or H.O.M.E restaurant, soul-food - greens, vegan chicken spaghetti, cauliflower wings. Blue Sage has great vegan pizza, but their hours are a bit spotty. The hours for the vegan restaurants in LR in general are not quite normal business hours. That's great to hear you're coming to visit! Most of my vegan friends in Central Arkansas are activists. If you're vegan, I'd be thrilled to hang out with you and introduce you to the community here, especially if you're into activism. He was very friendly, I enjoyed our conversation with him. Nearly all vegan foods (even most imported vegan food) has a lower impact on the climate than animal products. Evan has volunteered with non-profits in the past and supports buying vegan food over animal products (he went to the Blue Sage Vegan Bistro after the interview).
