My sister fell in love with Evanescence the first time she heard Bring Me to Life, and her love for the band is what got me into rock music. She passed away years ago, and this song has always held a really special place in my heart. I almost started crying when I saw that you posted this today, as today is my sister's birthday, she would be 22. You perfectly explained all the emotions I feel from this song. Thank you so much for your reaction.
So so sorry for your loss. I also lost someone very close to me in a very tragic way and this is all I’ve been left with. This song was a huge part of our life when he was here and now that he’s not…well you can imagine. Sending prayers and love to you💫
This one is so haunting....Notice she never is able to touch the earth. She is a ghost held by him not letting go. Amy Lee's voice is so powerful with the emotion she sings with. This is simply amazingly beautiful. Amy Lee, vocal goddess!
Wow I felt it was someone that passed on, but didn’t get that it could be her. She’s in white and doesn’t touch the ground. Omg. Thank you for clearing that up. I appreciate it
@@jenniferbargo389 she did write 'like you" about her sister but, according to my reading, Amy Lee started 'My immortal" about a lost friendship and Ben Moody helped her with the music and lyrics. Maybe it morphed during the creation. He also lost his grandfather but I don't know when. In 2003, I believe, he dedicated this song to his grandfather. However, Since Amy lee's sister died at the age of three, when amy was 6, this song was written well after that passing. It's about a loss via death. So, it could fit both losses in one way or another. It's inconceivable that Amy lee's sister wasn't in her mind when this song was finished with alot of help from ben Moody. It is conceivable that since ben had such a big hand in the song and dedicated the song to his grandfather, that she wasn't going to claim it was about her sister although many of the lyrics support that more than a loss of friendship. Both Ben and Amy had a loss that this song compliments. From an emotional impact, I will view it more of a song about the loss of her sister, ; has a greater impact to me. The children playing in the square also seems to support that considering that I hear the fountain square was in an area bombed during a war ( WWII?) and many children lost their lives. Along with 'wiping away your tears" and " chasing away your fears" --just seems to support the loss of a child more so.
Amy Lee is one of the greatest vocalist in history. Please do more reactions. You can do one every week and we will love it. They released a new album in March of this year.
great composition. it does a brilliant job of setting the tone and grabs you in real quick with that melody and the lyrics. and that ending, when the distortion kicks in, really gives that catharsis from the sad, sombre, and angry tone that's been set
This has been my favourite song since I first heard it when I was 11 years old. The raw power and emotion just speaks to whatever pain is inside you and let’s you really feel it. So good.
Just found your channel, great stuff! I've always loved this song. Some songs are catchy, some songs pick you up, and some songs change you forever - My Immortal is the latter.
Your reaction videos are so good, especially this one! The very real emotion you were feeling listening to this amazing band and song was very touching and it was so obvious you were really hearing this with fresh ears. I appreciate so much your very honest and heartfelt reaction. I also totally agree that Amy Lee's voice is phenomenal--Evananesce is a great band! Thank you very much for this reaction.
I was listening to your comments and a student of mine (I’m a psychologist) said almost the same as you. I gave him an A+ because the important thing I wanted them to understand is that tragedy and loss doesn’t necessarily mean death. So, A+ for you too 🙂
I believe she's the one who's passed and he is the one who's grieving.....the song is her knowing and expressing his feelings. My interpretation. That was actually a GREAT reaction. Thank you.
I agree. She never touches the ground, and instead lingers on the roof, in a tree, or on a pedestal, car, fountain. Also, the kids at play don’t notice her walking around on the fountain. Her death might have been by suicide as she has bandages around her wrist.
Thanks for your reaction video. You can see that you suffer with the song. In "My Immortal" everything is still painful for love. Take a look at "Call me when you're sober". There are no phrases but the text is absolutely straight to the point. Keep up the good work, look forward to more videos from you!
Amy has an incredible ability to express so so much pain, sadness, and all emotions so well. That's so sad, but its thariputic especially for people who hear and connect with Evanescence lyrics. There is just something about her voice that I have never found in another artist. And I love how you describe this song. Could you react to Better Without You by Evanescence? It came out during covid.
Do "Hello" by them 0_0 easily my favorite. Similar sound to this song but even sadder xD Edit: it's about her little sister, who passed when she was 3 I think
This song always tears at heart and shatters it all over again. My 30 year old daughter passed away in prison unexpectedly on Jan 19th, 2020 and this song reminds me of her and how badly I miss her. Amy Lee's voice is just so incredibly sad and beautiful at the same time.
A breakup and when someone's passed away could cause the same feeling of lost. That's way it's brilliant, because you can be attached to this song by both of these feelings.
There was a time I was obsessed with reactions to this song/video. I must have watched all of them on youtube. I'm way pass that time. This reaction just popped up on my suggested videos after having watched your reaction to Zombie early on. This was probably the best reaction to this video I have watched so far. Congratulations on the great content. I hope the algorithm doesn't flood my feed with My Immortal again. I have work to do...
I was raised on Green Day and Evanescence! I really freaked my fiancees family out early on in our relationship because they passed me the aux cord and I played this after they only played 80s music LMAO
Losing a life, or a relationship, either way this song relates. If you cared deeply and it is gone, the way Amy sings brings you back to reflect on that. And it hurts. And it is still very beautiful. One of my all time favorites.
This song makes me think of my best friend from 13- 37 when she passed from addiction, I tried everything i could to get her out of it, 7 months before she OD'd I decided to cut ties with her, I still loved her but I needed to get way from that. I miss her so much, it was 8 years ago on Dec 4th
Yeah Evanescene trully beautiful. Amy Lee's pretty, nice strong eyes and ofcourse her angelic voice the best in their songs (either Evanescence's or her solo with other people) I love it all!~ ❤ I even got their casette since long years ago before videos been popular like now, haha. Casette or VCDs are source of music before 😂
One more thing, she is still up the ground the whole video, never touched the ground. On the tree, on the roof, on anything. Never on the ground. Love this song. Amazing.
I adore Evanescence so much. If you want more, I would suggest checking out Everybody's Fool by her. It has so much emotion and carries a deep message. Keep doing what you're doing!
Fulllllll goosebumps 4:55 Lord! Amy Lee is so amazing! Writes her own music too so this was true hurt. My ex fiancé Linda Strawberry worked close with her for quite a while and said she’s a total sweetheart but with a LOT of heartache. 💔
Just so you know this song was supposed to stay at this tempo. She re-released Her original version on Deluxe edition of their Actual first album Eternal. It has a cover of Nirvana Heart Shaped Box. Killer album! Extremely Rare Now.....
Actually Evanescence was not a christian band..but the guy singing in that particular song "Bring me to Life" Paul McCoy was from another band called 12 Stones..and that band have some christian Rock songs... so..it could have been a misunderstanding.
I think they thought evanescence is a Christian band because if Amy's gospel background at high school and also Amy's parents were religious so it painted an even stronger assumption. Evanescence is a league of its own in my opinion very unique. Ps. Amy was always the writer and the imagination behind all the music videos. She is phenomenal.
Love your reactions. Could you please react to Hello? It's the other ballad from this album and the only song Amy could never sing live. It's a song about her sister that passed away and so haunting and melancholy ❤️❤️❤️
Great band. Check out their demos and other miscellaneous tracks, I could send a link to a RU-vid page that has most if not all of it. Bleed is a track I didn’t know about for a while but it absolutely rocks. I could talk about Evanescence forever because their music is so amazing.
That's interesting about it getting played on Christian radio. I don't remember ever hearing it there, but I also can't place when I first heard of Evanescence. Anyway, I'd always assumed it was a breakup song, but you're right that it makes at least as much sense if it's not.
Amy Lee is perfect. Absolutely perfect in every single way. She did vocals on a Seether song called Broken that I think you should hear. It's an absolute bombshell of talent. Amy's and Shaun's voices are so different but absolutely stunning together. Also, fun fact that BLEW MY FREAKING MIND: that dress that Amy's wearing is actually pink, not white.
I’m not sure but I think she is the one that passed…since she’s in white and he looks like he came from a funeral. Also, she’s positioned above him and he keeps looking up… …in my experience… it’s not the dreams you hate…it’s the waking up…
I recommend listening to the version without the rock ending, it is better imo. I love rock music but the nonrock ending feels more 'fitting' on this one.
This song was mostly written by ex-cofounder Ben Moody (guy on the piano), and Amy (singer) wrote the bridge. The song was mostly his and about his grandfather. Some people speculate it’s about Amy’s sister, who she lost when she was around 6 years old, but it’s not. ‘Hello’ and ‘Like You’ are about Amy’s sister.
People have been spreading so much misinformation about this song for so long - it just genuinely made me happy that someone passed on the actual facts😂 Thank you! (honestly & in the least condescending way possible!)
I guess since the song is about the loss of someone important in your life there could be some element of truth about her sister but I guess Amy can be the only one that can say whether her sisters death influenced her at all with this song or how she sung it etc . I watch these to judge if the reactions are real and for the music not for the comments.
This video was recorded in Barcelona. Very nice locations. The small square where is her in the fountain with children, behind her there is a small church full of bullets marks from Civil War (Spain)
For the "record": "The lyrics of the song refer to a spirit that haunts the memory of a grieving loved one. Similar to several other songs written by [Ben] Moody, the lyrics of the song are based on a short story he had previously written.[According to Lee, it was "Ben [Moody]'s song." Moody said that the song talks about "a spirit staying with you after its death and haunting you until you actually wish that the spirit were gone because it won't leave you alone." He also stated in the booklet of Fallen that he dedicated the song to his grandfather, Bill Holcomb. In "My Immortal", Lee expresses her feelings through the line, "Though you're still with me / I've been alone all along.A writer for IGN said that "'My Immortal' is a song of pain and despair caused by the loss of a family member or very close friend and how it drove her [Lee] to the edge of insanity." (source is wikipedia(dot)org)
When she is in the fountain she’s in Plaza de San Felipe Neri in Barcelona. In 1938 during the Civil War, a bomb exploded there and killed 42 people including lots of children, kindergarten children of the nursery that was near there. That’s why her singing there surrounded by kids is even more heartbreaking than the song itself.
And actually in the music vid she’s the Ghost that the guy is reminiscing about (so it’s fitting the children ghosts are there with her) this is why she is never shown touching the ground in the vid.
I thought I was seeing things when this popped up hahaha... I was 21 when this was released in 2003. I feel so old! 😭 Still such a great song though! Goosebumps
Omg I’m so glad you did this reaction, I absolutely love Evanescence, I listend to their music all my childhood… please do “Going under”, it’s another really great song from them
I was 21 when this song came out and GOING THROUGH IT! and I have heard it thousands of times and I still get goosebumps all throughout the song. It's one that you never stop appreciating, but it is still incredible to hear it through fresh ears vicariously. Thanks for the reaction!
I heard "Bring Me To Life" on a Christian station as well. I am shocked that Amy's statement that they were not a Christian band and that caused the station to take it off the air. In any event, it is good to hear a Christian's take on this song. My feelings exactly
This is the band version, there's another version that's even more haunting, because there's no band. I love them both, this one is very powerful, like a huge struggle between pain, sadness and anger, the other is pure sorrow, but both of them make me feel some sort of peace and release at the end. I met Evanescence because this song and Bring me to Life were featured in 2003's Daredevil.
Evanescence album Fallen should be a display in Audio Museum. It's not just another album. It's an art. It takes you to the depth of your emotions and takes you to a Gothic world with blue cyan shade with dark clouds and sculptural buildings and Haunted lonely roads.... The idea of Rock with Epic strings and dubbed or lush piano that has no texture or technically High frequency... is mind blowing.
You’re spot on as always. Amy Lee’s voice is ominous in the best possible way, if that even makes sense. I’m so happy you loved it. I was able to see this live, with Amy playing the piano and singing with a full orchestra behind her and it was one of the most memorable moments of my entire life! They’ve got some phenomenal newer stuff that you’d absolutely love, I’m just easing you in here, lol, that’s why I suggested this one first. I’ll talk to you more about it when I message you. Thanks for doing it💫
This song put me in ALL my feels as a young adolescent when I absolutely could not relate to this depth of emotion and experience 😂 So hauntingly beautiful and powerful to this day 🖤
I bought the album right away after first hearing Bring Me To Life and when I found this song, I fell in love with this. I never expected that they would make a video of My Immortal. then when they finally released it, I was actually quite surprised when the whole band came out because in the album, this song is just piano.
