100% same situation for me. I've been a member of two different parishes and same situation. But I visited Fr Turbos parish in KC. Fun time if you can make it happen. Visiting other parishes can help lift my spirits sometimes when I'm feeling a bit outside -although I love my parish and the Church and thank God I found it. God speed, brother 💪☦️

​@@fl7210No one will even take me as a spiritual child. I was sent by Christ so I continue but it can be discouraging at times. The camaraderie is not as open to all believers as it is seen to be by those lucky enough to enjoy it. Any Orthodox reading this maybe seek out and reach out to the loners in your own parish. Even if it's a bit awkward it might strengthen us all. God is sending some of the least expected to Orthodoxy 🙏 ☦️

You've only been there 9 months. Give yourself time. A lot of things are new to you. I'm introverted and black in an all white parish. It's taken many years, but I have a place there. I'm loved. Who is your godparent. Connect with them first. Christ wants you there. You have much to offer. Orthodoxy is for you. Don't be intimidated by others' education or money. The faith is well worth the effort. Christ is with you. You will be disappointed by others (and yourself) sometimes. Keep striving. You will grow through the grace given by the Lord. I have lived this! God keep you!

Saint Matthew parish in Torrance might also be a place for you to check out. The rector is Fr. John Mahfouz and he is a friend of Fr. Turbo. I have friends (formerly atheist) who attend there regularly now after attending first on Fr. Turbo's recommendation.

It was his nickname when he was a tattoo artist. Then, when he was coming into the Orthodox Church and looking at patron saints, his friend found out there was a St. Turbo in the early church.

Whether Greek, Russian, Serbian, Antiochian Orthodox, etc, we all share the same faith, creed, sacraments and communion, including between those on the new calendar or old calendar. For laity it doesn’t matter where you commune jurisdiction wise, as long as they are in the canonical church. New Calendar or Old Calendar the sacraments are still the same and valid. Of the different jurisdictions in America, you will find most are English speaking or English friendly. Antioch and Greek Orthodox have the greatest volume of English only services, especially Antioch. Rocor and Serbian are commonly conducting services in English as well, with a spattering of prayers in Church Slavonic. Some parishes are more ethnic than others. Antioch is very pan Orthodox in their approach, and I know many native born Americans that mainly speak English in all jurisdictions.
