this was so well put together great job the music made me so nostalgic of when I was a small child driving into Evansville with my family. my brother in law worked at swifts and we all went to the general Baptist church we always got donuts after church and ice cream in the summer at the local shop. I miss those times
Thank you. As a lifetime resident, I'll be sharing this with my family. My dad was the first baby born at the beginning of the 1937 flood. I'm sure he will enjoy the video.
Exceptionally beautiful. The photos speak for themselves, but their arrangements and the camera movements combined with the music make this worth more than the fifty viewings it’s received.
Bosse Field, one site of the movie "A League of Their Own" I was born & raised on the Westside! Nice trip back in time. My mom told me the little she remembered of the '37 flood. Wow!
Really well done. I remember a few of these places and scenes. Lovely to see them again. Wish you had a picture of the old Grand Theater and Lowes Majestic. I used to live a couple of blocks from Bosse, spent lots of time at Roberts Municipal Stadium.
I remember Greenriver Road was TWO lanes and Division (Lloyd now ) was two lanes . ! Dubl-R on the corner of Division , McGee Volskwagen on the same side of the road , and three or four houses on the east side of the Greenriver , where Burlington is today , I remember the Baumgarts , and Negleys' being two of the residences and the rest was cornfields down to the Evansville Drive-in .
Mom's used to go to Henderson, Kentucky for the Harness Racing. I also remember the Fall Festival! My family is from and still live in Germany. Are Generational Diamond Cutters. Mom's never had a Driver's License in the Day. 70s. Would just Date whoever pulled her over. Dad used to drive drunk. Cop would just tell him to take it easy on way home.
I too went to Audubon Park and later on Riverside Downs to watch harness racing with my Dad and Uncle as a child. Friday nights at Audubon and Saturday's at Ellis Park(still have live racing) thoroughbreds. My Grandmother and Aunt never had a drivers license. Grandfather at the Eagles (F.O.E.) all day on Saturday's and Sunset drive-in Saturday night drinking Pabst Blue Ribbon and double shots of Canadian Club all day. Pulled over by police leaving the drive-in, shitfaced, cop told him to be careful and followed us home to make sure we made it home safely. My oh my how times have changed.
@@scottwendel633 my mom never had a driver license either. Would Date whoever pulled her over. I lived in Poseyville, Newburgh, all over Evansville. Live in Phoenix now, since 1979. Lived in Socal too. From San Francisco down to San Diego, from Long Beach to Lake Elsinore, Riverside. Early 80s. Watch old episodes of T J Hooker to see background of what it used to be...
Good video. I hadn't heard that even Bosse High was effected by the flood. I'm sure a lot more could have been included which would have only lengthened it a good bit. Mesker hill, park, etc come to mind as well as the early days of the airport and commercial travel. Of course, Republic Avaition was active in WW II and not just the LST shipyard. But, this was great in and of itself.
You know, I lived across the street from Bosse high school when they made that movie and I remember part of the street being blocked and it looked like they were using the stadium or the baseball field there. I think they did some filming there that never made it into the film or something. I think there might be a short scene that used part of that area but I've never been able to pick it out in the film.
The scene that was used in A League of Their Own was the final game. The Championship. It was a Home Game for the Racine Belle's. There are still Racine Belle's signs hanging up in the park to this day. Fun fact: The giant warehouse over the right-field wall was digitally altered for the movie. Whatever they make their now is written on the side of the building and they changed it so that it would be something that a factory would've been making back in the time period of the film.
That very well could be the case. I know they were doing something over there. Could have been gathering extras or just about anything. I think living right across the street in my 8th grade year made me obsessed with the idea that my high school would have a place in that movie.
That would be Green River Road looking south from Lincoln Avenue; Big Lots is now housed where Target was located on GRR. Fifth Third occupies the Citizens Bank which is/was located at Bellemeade and GRR.
But Bosse field and bosse high school are miles apart. I know they filmed at bosse field and these scenes are in the movie. Why was part of my high school used. The high school has another baseball field and it's own football stadium.
Yeah I really don't remember any sort of filming across the street from Bosse High School. At least anything that ended up in the movie. The only thing I can think of is either A) they filmed scenes that didn't make it into the film, or B) they used the stadium as a "staging" or "practice" area for something.
Anyone go to Howard Roosa School, like early 70s? Or Castle High School, 77? Think I went to Central, too. Mom's went to Bosse. Or the Continuation High School in Perris, California? 1981? They had classes like horse shoes, pottery. Most students had Probation officers, I remember these Black guys who didn't go there but would show up at Lunch in their Hydraulic Low Rider to throw dice.
My best friend was named Dome Phoomuang. Went to Castle High School like 77. Was from Thailand. The high school raised money to bring some of his family here. I believe 77 was year his sister that was like 17 committed suicide. And few years later his mom's was arrested for bringing Heroin into the US. He was arrested too. Best friend I ever had! Used to go hunting and fishing trapping in the Woods.
