@@sorrytothisman1496 So using your logic, anyone who isn't black can't be "gangster", even if they love the music/culture.. This is so racist even for black people - implying that they can't be anything else but gangster. The "cultural misappropriation" crowd are the most pretentious and condescending twats. There's a difference for someone to be accepted by the community (which Gwen is, otherwise she wouldn't even be rocking a Dr. Dre song) - and someone being a poser.
Hands down, Eve had the best flow, cadence and delivery over any other female MC, ever imo. She puts alot of these dudes to shame and is mad underrated in the grand scheme of the hip-hop world. "Eve of Destruction" is prolly my fav track of hers and it still rotates through my playlist several times a week, but I hadnt heard this in a minute. I forgot how bad she killed this beat. Top tier presence and flow and I don't know if she wrote all her shit, but every verse was constructed so well, with subtle internal rhymes that the average listeners ears aint gonna catch. Either way, she owned this shit. Its 2024 y'all The fact I'm here saying this right now, says all you need to know.
I am french, and hip hop women is dead in the USA or what ? Missy Elliott, Eve, Mary J Blidge, Jennifer Lopez, where is the nex gen ? Nicky minaj... ? ahahahah... :'( I've been listening to these artists for over 10 years and it's not about to change! Have a good day !
correct me if i'm wrong but as my childhood memories recalled, Gwen was the 1st non black female artist who blows & penetrate the modern HipHop mainstream scene. later then we got Nelly Furtado & Fergie. i remember early 2000, seeing Gwen literally in several music videos with different vibe/style musicality. then saw her here with Eve. imagine the diversity she gave back then from Hella Good, Hey Baby, Underneath It All & Running to this HipHop song. i was like, i'm pretty sure she the same unique & pretty lady in the other mvs coz of her iconic looks those eccentric style (attitude too) with platinum blonde hair. she's just naturally rock those gangster behaviour coz Gwen already very punk & attitude during/since her No Doubt era.
No. MC Lyte was WAY BETTER. Eve was NICE, but she came after a loooooooong list of female MCs going back to the Mercedes Ladies to Roxanne Shant'e to Lyte to Salt-N-Pepa to Latifah to MC Trouble to BOSS to Lady of Rage to Bad Boy Queen Bee and soooo MANY others who DIDN'T sell millions of records.......Goggle IT
Their voices blend so well together. Eve's voice has this richness, almost velvet, and Gwen's voice edges into a kind of classiness. I love this song; always have, always will.
@@silentlyberrys9569 There's still a bunch of lyrical female rappers, they just aren't as mainstream as they used to be and you have to dig a little to find them. Some of the most popular ones right now are Tierra Whack, Rico Nasty, Rhapsody, Noname, Princess Nokia, and a bunch of others that I have forgotten or don't know yet. Even still some rappers that do talk about their bodies are still good lyricists like Kash Doll (who often tells stories in her raps) and Megan the Stallion.
This is a full circle moment for Eve and Scott Storch….If it wasn’t for Eve we wouldn’t have Forgot about Dre. She introduced Scott Storch to Dr Dre when she was on aftermath before Ruff Ryderz.
All the music, beats & styles from 95'-05' were dope & unique, I'm talkin rap, hip-hop, r&b, rock, metal, nu-metal, alternative etc... MOST new music but not all is garbage these days. 😮💨😑
+Kevin Diyoka lol. Dude even in 2001 MTV was hardly playing music videos. The golden age of MTV was probably 80's-1995, back when they played videos all day.
Tabatha G Maybe compared to today, but it doesn't stand up to other periods. Rock and roll was in a Dark Age (and still is lol) with bands like Limp Bizkit and Nickelback. Hip hop might have been doing okay, but not as well as it was in the early 90's. And the biggest thing at the time were groups like N Sync and Britney Spears. But I guess it's all down to how you felt at the time. If it was a great time in your life then I guess you'll remember everything well regardless.
No you're right, i just meant the whole 90's period in general, was a much better time. Not exactly the best time for music, but just the whole vibe had potential that's all.
Ha! Just listened to this last night because my wife kept talking about this song but couldn't remember who sang it. I wasn't a huge fan of this but was a huge fan of the 90s/early 2000's compared to today!
