In reality this is what happens, you help that miner and he thanks you, his friends show and and also Thank you, then they blow you up and continue on their way.

I played a MUD (text-based multiplayer game) constantly between the ages of 12 to 18. When Everquest came out, I was so excited to have a similar experience but in 3D... then I actually played it. And other MMORPGs. Every one was a disappointment. In the MUD I played, players knew each other. Players made an impact on the world. I'm 35 now and I can still recall the names of my guildmates and lots of the equipment they wore and exploits we had together, along with the exploits of many others in the game. The MMOs? Nothing. Because there are multiple worlds, the best anyone can do is become a cookie-cutter clone of a thousand other players that look just like them. The benefit of having only 1 world is something more games should investigate. Strictly limited items, of which only 1 or 2 might exist in the whole world, and the ability for players to interact with the 'gods' of the realm and make lasting changes lifts the playing experience to a whole different level. If I had the time, I imagine I would love EVE.

This is LITERALLY how I've spent nearly 16 years getting to be part of and have fun with some of the best guys and gals from 6 continents and timezones znd made friends for life.

Well, I got into my current corporation in eve because they tried to kill me in a wormhole. Decided to do gas huffing in there although I don't do that often. Got out in time, had a funny conversation with them and joined them a bit later. Great game!

Invite you to fly with them? PFFT! give me a break, they would of insta locked and no prizes for guessing the rest of this scenario...

I really miss the old portraits. Minmatar, Amarr, Gallante, and Caldari characters all had their special unique look, and now they all look the same.

I wasn't talking about the titan, I was talking about the second paragraph. The one universe and full pvp in eve actually enforces you to learn or quit. Mittani's article in tentohammer really nailed it and that is the reason that I play. Btw, when you make the same mistake twice you actually learned to recognize the situation. I really love this feature in the game. Btw, to be ambushed is to fly without a scout and when you do that you must be prepared to lose. It isn't a "mistake"

EVE is insane. There are so many options and it is so player-driven. It really is the most immersive and best MMO I've played, thus far.

I had heard bad reviews about Eve for a couple of years, so I'd never bothered trying it until just after Christmas last year. Now, I run a corporation with people from Austria, Sweden, Russia, Australia, England, Canada and the United States. It is *fun*. From mining to trading to massive space battles to exploration to trading to research to diplomacy to politics to chatting with decent people - Eve sums up everything I want in a video game. My only regret is that I waited so long to start.

Although the events in this video would be unlikely to happen to most people, it demonstrates the most important point of EVE Online: sandbox gameplay. The game doesn't limit you to a path or tell you what to do. You make your own choices, find your own way of living, and experience whatever consequences result.

wow, this is actually a really awesome vid. if Eve were more fast paced, free-to-play, and had less complicated and frustrating controls; i'd be totally convinced to play it solely from watching this video.

More than 8... EVE's 10th Anniversary celebration is May 6th. There's also an expansion coming June 4th. If you haven't tried EVE yet, NOW is an awesome time to do so. :)

I'm not bashing this game or anyone who plays it, I am saying it isn't for everyone. Like you said, "It's easy to get into ships and new parts, but takes dedication to master them." I am (un)fortunately more dedicated to things in the real world that matter more than a video game. That being said, if you have not played it do give it a try. It's a beautiful game and very in-depth. I think CCP is a solid company with a very innovative business model. I wish more MMO companies were like them.

Let say this is you. Solo pvp kitchen sink fit. You try to scan down the barge in lowsec, but the gang fleet of pirates got that faction modules , so the barge instapops. You warp at 20 thinking you can get on that killmail, but you end up being tackled by a Stilleto pilot with no self respect. 4 tengus uncloak and you are sent to Jita 4-1 on a fresh clone. The EVE Butterfly effect.

@Vexoro if you're, do not go to low/nullsec at all, regardless of how cheap your ship is. you will more than likely be insta-podded by a fleet of battleships/marauders. wait until you have a large corp, or alliance to go into null/lowsec. same goes for wormholes.

I miss these graphics and simpler eve :( ...

I play eve for almost 2 years now and tbh this is the best video I have seen so far. EVE itself is just great, even after 2 years there is still a lot waiting for me ahead :)

Actually I really like this video because its sending a bigger message than just Eve - its really speaking to all gamers to take their actions seriously, which is exactly what needs to happen so you dont just get a "thx". Im thinking about getting back into Eve, I wasnt impressed after the 14 day trial but that was a year ago...

Nice video, gives glimps on what combat looks like, those were all in-game shots too. EVE Online = most rewarding MMO ever, the learning curve also filters out the impatient and annoying people out of the game, not all but most of them.

All the old graphics ... slowly but surely this vids becomes part of the nostalgia.

ElMagnfico: It's pretty reasonable. An assault frigate is a pretty decent ship to solo PVP with in 0.0. Not as great as a recon, HAC, interceptor or a SB, but fair enough. It's also possible for a long range artillery fit Wolf to kill or drive off two frigate sized ships, or at least have them come after it and thus stop tackling the miner. And it's not too far fetched to be invited to some alliance as a result. The funny part in this video are the "patrols" with dreads and titans at a gate. :)

Rewatching this reminds me of the most chaotic situation I ever flew into. I was flying around Syndicate in my tengu, out of my depth and not realizing it. I stop to do a site, get tackled like a moron. Luckily, it is just a random gang, and they are taking forever to break my tank. Unluckily, I am configured for running and cloaking, so I can't kill all their tacklers. I'm sure I'm going to lose my most expensive ship like a complete idiot. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a bigger gang drops in on us, and starts shooting at the first gang. I get massively lucky and they happen to kill the last person tackling me first (actually, think I ended up with the finishing blow by chance if I remember right.) I warped the hell away to a safe spot, cloaked up, and hid like a tiny scared baby until I could slip out of the system. Still laugh when I think about the absurd luck. Pretty sure that the bigger gang wanted to kill me too, but luck gave me a break=)

I'm new to EvE and I really need to say that it is the best MMO I've played so far. It's Economysystem is just wonderful, with a little bit of reallife knowledge about economy you can make TONS of isk within the first days/weeks. I think I'm just going to make a lot of isk whilst training some skills, so I can fit a badass PvP ship and then go to 0.0 to learn the PvP aspects of the game. (yes, I know, dont fly to 0.0 with a expensive ship and 0 knowledge of combat :D)

What was the Rifter's first low slot fitting? The other one was an armor repairer, but I couldn't see the other one.

I think this video was made to be 100% freindly to the people who haven't played EvE. If they had Aura (the tutorial AI) do it, it would be slightly more confusing for them. Having this guy who sounds alot like the guy pointed the game out to you, makes it seem more viewer friendly.

now they should bring back this old wolf model it looked so much better then the current one also the gun placements where so much cooler and since the "old" wolf was smaller then what we have now you can actually see the gunfire, now you can barely see it even when zoomed all in :(

@McBlemmen no, if you go into lowsec (0.4 or lower safety space), there is a 99% chance you will get attacked by player pirates who will blow you up and take all of your stuff. If you find a group of players, you can go pirate. Most pirates camp gates in lowsec and kill anything that appears...But at the same time other pirates and people who get angry will go looking for them ;). In Nullsec, space is completely player corp owned, and thats more for alliance vs alliance fighting.

lol i got it :D started yesterday the trial with 14days i was immediately fascinated and bought the eve box edition in the store.. eve is amaizing .. i played a lot of others mmo but eve is the best ive ever played. Great freedom, feeling and atmospähre, tracks fit in game.

A new player wont make a difference in a big battle, but nor will any single battleship. Note that the big ships can hardly kill anything without it being pinned(unable to warp). So it is those little tacklers that allow them to kill something. As with a hammer, the hand that guides it and the hand that holds what you are hitting. Besides damage isnt everything - (anti) support and logistic ships. P.s. A rifter is never gonna be primary in a fleet battle, so it gives you some time to enjoy it.

@ArcaneKarma They probably got that figure from their subscription records. Eve has been around for many years and some countries that existed back then have disappeared now but they may still show in their records hence the number.

That's red/orange paint on the lines... yeah, definitely an exhumer. Which you could say is basically an advanced mining barge, so he's kinda right. I think calling it a mining barge keeps it's purpose obvious without being too inaccurate.

@slowlyawakening PvE is a broader concept than that. What you are reffering to is missions: grinding through a library of static environments to generate a steady income.

(New Player asking) IF I'd be in such a situation, (where my ship would survive of course) I mean, that instead of the Minmatar Frigate, a EWAR Cruiser, (specifically Amarr's EWAR ships) would it make sense for such a ship that I'd (at best) try to buy the barge enough time to escape (and then escape myself), OR until backup arrives?

I'm just asking, can you start with that ship or do you have to get later in the game?

This and the Dominion trailer were both the catalyst for my joining the game. I haven't really had a whole lot of traction though and I struggle to stick around, even after almost seven years.

Actually, it looks like it's one Interceptor and at least one Merlin-chassis ship for heavy(ier) fire. Could be a Hawk or a Harpy Assault Frigate, same class as the focus character's Wolf. Can't tell what the other ship would be, though. Possibly an e-war for flexibility?

the fact it takes ages is also what makes it more "real". No legendary mercenary becomes a legendary mercenary within 1 week of PvE missions and corpse looting. The best thing about eve is how lifelike it is.

@oberonson18 The Rifter was a lone person flying around. After he saved the miner, a patrol from the miners corporation flew in and invited the pilot to join them. He accepts and then they end up running into another fleet from the opposite alliance. That's pretty much it. I've seen stuff like this happen before. Hell, I've been apart of stuff like this before. It does happen.

how do you toggle drones so that they dont have a background, or better still cant see them at all?

@udoprog Depends on the definition of "country." According to the ISO, there are 248 countries/regions. Also, the world population is now closer to 7 billion (6.93), so it's no longer accurate to say "there are about 6 billion people in the world."

atm, its all in space inside your ship. they are working on a first person shooter for consoles, and even walking around doing things inside stations

As somebody else pointed out, that's a Wolf, not a Rifter. Give Assault Ships more credit. And even if it was a Rifter, that's lightyears better than taking a Reaper.

The miner didn't seem too worried...as he was still mining while he was under attack. I would have just assumed he had things handled and moved on.

What an absolutely brilliant piece of work. Truly mind blowing, tempts me to want to play this game.

Its a game that takes a long time and also a lot of planning. Its a game that can feel boring at times but as soon as u get involved with pvp there is no other game that will give u as much of a rush as this. I am a pirate personally and I love doing it. U can do what u like though which is what makes this game so special. If ur a mature gamer i highly recommend this over WOW.

Funny commercial, reintroducing the MMO world to new(er) gamers who didn't experience the game genre emerging. Bit simplistic necessarily but showing some of the true strengths of the game: ie the ability to do almost anything you wish to (and some, but not all, of the consequences). This is why sandbox games truly rule.

I lost my wolf in a mission, When I saw my armor go out, i think my heart skipped a beat and got a sinking feeling in my stomach. I've killed so many people in that ship. I loved that ship!!

I find it hilarious that the "Alliance" example they give has Sovereignty through Great Wildlands down through Immensea and Detroid. Yeah...you're covering almost half a dozen different alliances (RAZOR, Minor Threat, Sc0rched Earth, The Initiative, & Atlas), not to mention Great Wildlands is NPC-Sov only...so currently: Impossible. Though, if this were possible--the "other alliance" would be Red Alliance. That would be epic for one ship to SUDDENLY join in on as a random encounter...hehe...

CCP of today really needs to get back in touch with the CCP of 12 years ago and take some notes. While the cinematic quality rightly isn't comparable, it honestly feels like this trailer was made by people who really understood the point of EVE Online and what made it unique.

@NobodyVeryImportant no i think you misunderstood me, i meant what you say it should be is unrealistic. You say for example in wow its Strictly One side v the Other. but you forget there are some areas of the game where horde and alliance are together [moonglade]. I am like the commander worf in my corp. all mostly amarr and i'm usually the only minmatar in there [ i might be the only one]. Being the race of the'opposing side' doesn't mean shoot on site every non -insert race here- on sight.

There are 192 member countries of the United Nations. Recognized countries not a part of the UN would be Kosovo and The Vatican, bringing the number to 194. Further, there are several countries that claim sovereignty and hold it, but are still not formally considered independent, bringing the total number of sovereign states to 201. In addition, there are 59 territories that are dependent upon other nations, while still governing themselves, bringing the total number of countries on Earth to 260

There is a trial yeh, you can get a 10day one but i think steam might have a longer trial.

That depends on what you decide to do. If you mine..you'll spend a ton of time just scraping enough together to buy your plex...the fastest way to make money is trading. If you devoted your character to trade skills you could be self sufficient within a month. I went the trading route but be warned that it's not terribly exciting. Do some cheap pvp on the side :)

WASD = Ship is in coordinate Y. Pressing any given key moves the ship in direction A B C D or E, etc... we're talking about minuscule data transfer, so small it wouldn't have any affect whatsoever on performance.

After six years of playing EVE - taking a break here and there - I'm always amazed this game keeps me coming back with upgrades & dynamics changes. My only complaint is that it takes WAY too long to earn ISK and thus enjoy the game through new purchases such as ships and fittings. Most players who are anyone in this game spend an average of 5 hours a day playing it seems. If you got the time, this is a great game, but if your married or have kids - Good Luck ! You'll need it.

@Shodex4 this game has the most player run politics i've ever seen, i really can't think of one in comparison. I use to play EVE and yes the trailer is very true....it happened to me. Of course i was a noob at the time and I was pretty much flying a paper ship and i didn't really know much about my ship to be very effective in battle. One thing about EVE, Not only do u need a good ship, but u need to know how to fly your ship, how to use your ship in battle. Somtimes it take some math skills.

Agreed, but most people playing online know WoW, so in order to get their attention you have to make comparisons. Besides the only direct comparison I heard here were the one about EVE being one big universe, and not separate realms with a limited number of players.

And that is why EVE has the biggest percentage of players that have tried playing, and are still loyal to the game...

oh so many many times but I have also learned over the years how to hit back. Thats why i love Eve. Even when you die you learn how to do things.

You can can bait, pretty easy, just run belts in 2 different systems and leave the loot in the wrecks, you can change a settign in your overview so when someone loots, a red skull appears next to their name in local. Just work between the two systems and wait for the red skulls to appear, scan em out, pop em. Dead easy.

@0mni42 it kinda depends..some countries arnt recognized by others so it really depends on who you ask.

I cannot stress how awesome this game is. I expect myself playing EVE for the next decade at least. And if you don't like EVE's gameplay, try looking into Dust 514. Its not out yet, but is already promising.
