to give you my view to this, I did not understand once everything of a single clip, mostly not even a single word for example "swiss German" I understood 0 % and yes I am a born German guy living my entire whole life in Germany . speaking the dialect "high German" which is the standard. but even within Gemrany´s borders I do not understand more than 2 dialects, even partly and Germany has got more than just 5 big dialects, it has got something in between 40 and 100 dealects, depending on which difference makes a dialect a dialect. each could be seen as its own language because all the 40- 100 do have certain unique way of produnciation or even whole words which does not appear a second time in the entire bunch of German dialects. and a little bonus for intrested people in a random fact: I can understand Middle Englisch more intuitively than modern englisch as a high German speaker because in ME the words share the same roots as todays high German Middle Englisch was the Englisch of England in the years 800 - 1200 orso. and modern Englisch startet in the year 1400 till today . but check the dates to be sure by yourself
