Even more stored Locomotives: CSX Stored units in Russell, Kentucky!

Right beside the previous storage video in Russell Yard, we flew over CSX's stored locomotives at the west end of the yard. In the mix was a much more eclectic mix of power, including a GP60, an AC6000, and much more EMD than was featured in the Cumberland video.
This location featured around 150 locomotives, with lots of units that were once seen roaming the rails all up and down the East coast, and into the central states. Locomotive classes such as the SD70MAC's, GP30-road slugs, and the D8-44CW's were abundant here, all of which have been removed from the active roster, and many number boards, and horns removed to deter theft of such parts. A sad state of the railroads, but such is the way of the future.
For anyone wondering where I get my music from for videos such as this; I use a site called Epidemic Soundcloud. For a small monthly fee, you can get all the Royalty Free music you want to suit any need, for any type of video, just like this one!
Hope Everyone Enjoys!

I saw a geep 30 chassis ( road slug ) engine 2258 @4:38 and although it was 10 years before I went in to the seat those engines were numbered 6900 series and lead as the lead unit on many of the B&O trailer jets during the 60d’s to early 70d’s, so, those engines even thou their a slug without a prime mover are well past their time….sad to say the switch engines like the 1100 series you see parked in this video are a dependable engine and hopefully some 3rd class operator will give them a refurbished 2nd life, they were fun and easy to operate…..ms~~~…..

Don’t forget about those pre production SD70ACe’s that they purchased back from 2004 that were all retired in 2017 and along with the SD70ACe-T4’s or (ST70AH’s) that they purchased in the summer of 2019. But then again on a big purchase of locomotives. Yeah I would say it would be the SD70MAC’s.

First of all none of them is junk!all they need is a little TLC and maintenance!I don't see a single piece of junk in this line.if you had the experience I have in fixing locomotives, you wouldn't think of them as junk!what you have here is money going to waste .each one of these girls can be made to run again. And they Can make you money! I wish I had a short line. I would approach csx and purchase every one of these locomotives and take them and put them in the shops and re build them and repair them and give them a new paint job ,And put them back in service making money for me! In order for a locomotive to be called junk,it must beyond economical repairs, and the electrical system must be done! And the prime mover cannot be fixed. Traction motor's must be burned out and the cost of repairs expensive. Then you can say it is junk!

Absolutely sad!all this power.just wasting away! And this can be prevented!there's no excuse for this to be happening!if csx would get rid of this psr bull,and go back to serving theirs customers like they should, then there wouldn't be any of these girls in storage lines! You can blame hunter Harrison for bringing this trouble into csx! If the railroad hadn't brought this idiot to csx,this railroad would be very prosperous. And there wouldn't have been any customers complaining about the lack of service!

@haaseshouseoscience6377 3 года назад
Carmetlita we don't know. Though most 4500 series (though they're AC's) are being upgraded to the MACe's. The only Flared MAC's (from 4701 to 4830) that are left in service are 4758, 4792, 4800, and 4814. Though rumors are saying that more Flared MAC's might return to service.

@@graphtonix6607 I highly doubt that. If some of these get sold to LTEX, then the chances of them getting scrapped is possible. I remember 2 CSX 7300 series Dash-8's (7338 and 7389) that were retired 12-31-17, but they were stored at Cumberland for 3 years (I caught them both on 9-12-20) before being sold to LTEX.

CSX Train Fan unfortunately, some were and would be retired in the future. RP20CD 1601, GP60 6897, and SD50-2 8578 were all retired in March and July of 2019 respectively. Since SD60M 8766 is only 1 to 7-10 SD60M's left, he could be retired sometime in the future. Infact, C40-8W's 7708, 7757, 7773 (Whose in a bit of bad shape), 7800, 7813, 7841, and 7920 could also be in possible recommened retirement to, seeing that they're missing their number-boards.
