Even some IT departments are bypassing Windows 11 requirements!

Enterprise IT departments know the Windows 11 system requirements are bloated and ridiculous. Now while I do think any computer running Windows 11 should at a minimum have a solid state drive, the truth is, Windows 11 will run on hardware that is significantly older than the minimum requirements. There are cases where IT departments need to use Windows 11 because a piece of software they use is ending support for Windows 10, but it makes no sense to have to replace a whole fleet of PCs simply because they are from 2018 and have 7th gen Intel CPUs (or equivalent AMD). For example, the ITS department at my workplace is planning to roll out Windows 11 organization-wide this fall. A lot of their computers date from 2018 or older, and are not in the budget for replacement until a couple years out. They have installed Windows 11 on one of our systems as a test mule, and aside from slow bootup times due to the HDD being used for Windows, the system otherwise runs Windows 11 perfectly fine!

I find it hilarious that they require all this security and everything yet the kernal constantly phones home with garbage every few seconds, all it takes is a rogue redirect or compromise of a web address and next thing you know the entire fleet of machines are toast.

I've seen plenty of old computers for sale on eBay with bypassed Windows 11 installs.

You can install Windows 11 23H2 on an older system, and it will receive security updates longer than Windows 10... not by much, unless one upgrades it to 24H2

Why would any organization wait over three years from the launch of Windows 11 to even begin testing? If an organization is waiting that long to upgrade their hardware, they have much bigger financial issues to worry about.

It isn't uncommon for large organizations to remain on an older version of Windows while it is still receiving support. This organization moved off Windows XP back around 2012 and off Windows 7 around 2017. This is not their very first test mule system They were already experimenting with Windows 11 well before installing it on this system.

Iirc there is an upcoming win10 update requiring a CPU instruction set lots of the older CPUs don't have. If so people will run the update and reboot to a black screen.

These PCs are from 2018. Computers with HDDs were much more common then, and Windows 10 at the time was nowhere near as bloated. These computers ran fine back when they used to run Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB/C 2016. When ITS moved to Windows 10 22H2, these machines instantly had become nearly unusable due to being so slow.

I am against the 11 requirements, but there are a few things. One, why are they just experimenting? Should have been doing that a year or two ago. Two, does your IT not have planned rotations? Three, everyone knew the specs 3 years ago. A good manager would have started rotating and had it almost completely done. I work in IT and our University is about completed that transition as we started 3 years ago. Bypass is fine till Microsoft kills it completely and Security will become a concern eventually.

This is a state funded community college. We are already behind on hardware refreshes due to the "budget". Partially the reason why they are now pushing out Windows 11 is due to a software vender ending Windows 10 support (which seems dumb due to Windows 10's large usage share). Many departments here don't like what's working for them being changed.

Glad to have you back, I love to see IT departments even sticking it to Microsoft. Here is something i thought of, What if Microsoft instead of forcing the elite class requirements just recommend them and say we suggest that you have these kinds of hardware to get the best out of Windows 11 but still allow you to install it anyways on systems that don't meet them and still allow all pcs to run Windows 11. i say the only requirements that are fair is an SSD and maybe 4 GBs of ram, that should do the trick. Recently i tried Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC 2024 as well as IOT Enterprise LTSC 2024 and really liked it honestly. funny enough IOT Enterprise bypasses the requirements like Server 2025 while regular Enterprise LTSC requires the elite class requirements. These are just my thoughts, again wishing you nothing but the best and good luck.

With Windows 10 market share *increasing* this year, maybe they might want to consider relaxing the requirements for Windows 11!

I see MS making a lot of money with people buying the Enterprise LTSC win10 version (security updates to 2027) and getting the added 3 year updates, that'll take them up to 2030.
@YoStu242

I wouldn't trust that those bypasses will work forever and MS can render whole os useless with updates whenever they want.

I'll bet you anything we hit October 2025 and the next windows will be out and no one will be able to get it that doesn't meet windows 11 specs, if microsoft is smart that will happen.

Microsoft doing their part for e-waste... on the upside, there are going to be a lot of decent xeon workstations hitting eBay causing prices to drop further........Linux will probably work great on those...
@francoisleveille409
@francoisleveille409 3 дня назад
This older computer is not good because it doesn't have TPM 2.0 which Microsoft can use to render your data unreadable and it is not powerful enough or have enough storage to run Copilot+ which Microsoft can use to get all your personal information and computer activity. Please let Microsoft turn your computer experience into a vague resemblance of 1984 or do just like me : Stick to Windows 10 ... on the latest Ryzen 9 7950X.
@CubeComputerChannel
@CubeComputerChannel 2 дня назад
So basically you'll have a better Windows 11 experience on computers which don't meet the Microsoft EliteClass system requirements for Windows 11. And if your PC is EliteClass Certified, install Windows 10!
